Channel programs would allow sending a stream of instructions to the kernel for atomic execution in syncing context. This would avoid long wait times between transactions and allow more efficient single-pass logic to be implemented in the kernel rather than splitting operations across transactions. Sample programs show how operations like recursive destroy could be implemented through a single channel program calling kernel intrinsics from within the syncing context. The plan is to refactor sync task code and add a Lua interpreter to the kernel to implement ZFS operations as Lua extensions executing the refactored sync tasks.

- Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) is an interior gateway protocol that uses link state routing to distribute routing information within a single autonomous system to calculate the shortest path to destinations. It provides fast convergence, supports authentication and security, and can load balance traffic across multiple equal-cost paths.

Fastsocket Linxiaofeng
Fastsocket is a software that improves the scalability and performance of socket-based applications on multicore systems. It addresses kernel inefficiencies like synchronization overhead that consume over 90% of CPU cycles. Fastsocket introduces techniques like receive flow delivery, local listen/established tables, and a fastsocket-aware VFS to partition resources and process connections locally on each CPU core. In production at SINA, Fastsocket improved HTTP load balancing throughput by 45% on a 16-core system. Future work aims to further optimize performance through techniques like improved interrupt handling and system call batching.
OSPF Overview
OSPF is a link-state routing protocol that uses LSAs to exchange routing and topology information between routers. Routers must establish neighbor relationships by exchanging Hello packets before sharing LSAs. Routers run the SPF algorithm to calculate the best paths based on the collected link-state database and populate their routing tables. OSPF supports features like equal cost load balancing, VLSM, and manual summarization. It divides large networks into areas to reduce routing overhead.
Link state routing protocol
Link-state routing protocols use Dijkstra's algorithm to calculate the shortest path to all destinations based on a link-state database containing the full network topology. Each router runs the same algorithm locally to determine the optimal path. Key aspects include link-state advertisements to share connectivity information, the topological database to store network maps, and shortest path first calculations to derive routes. Common link-state protocols are OSPF and IS-IS. They provide fast convergence and scalability but require more resources than distance-vector protocols.
IPv6 transition and coexistance - Jordi Palet
This document discusses various techniques for transitioning from IPv4 to IPv6 and enabling their coexistence, grouped into three categories: dual stack, tunnels, and translation. Dual stack allows simultaneous support of IPv4 and IPv6, while tunnels encapsulate IPv6 packets in IPv4 and translation converts between the two protocols. Common tunneling methods include 6in4, 6to4, Teredo and Softwires. Translation via NAT-PT is discouraged due to imperfections requiring ALG support. Apache Spark on Supercomputers: A Tale of the Storage Hierarchy with Costin I...
In this session, the speakers will discuss their experiences porting Apache Spark to the Cray XC family of supercomputers. One scalability bottleneck is in handling the global file system present in all large-scale HPC installations. Using two techniques (file open pooling, and mounting the Spark file hierarchy in a specific manner), they were able to improve scalability from O(100) cores to O(10,000) cores. This is the first result at such a large scale on HPC systems, and it had a transformative impact on research, enabling their colleagues to run on 50,000 cores.
With this baseline performance fixed, they will then discuss the impact of the storage hierarchy and of the network on Spark performance. They will contrast a Cray system with two levels of storage with a “data intensive” system with fast local SSDs. The Cray contains a back-end global file system and a mid-tier fast SSD storage. One conclusion is that local SSDs are not needed for good performance on a very broad workload, including spark-perf, TeraSort, genomics, etc.
They will also provide a detailed analysis of the impact of latency of file and network I/O operations on Spark scalability. This analysis is very useful to both system procurements and Spark core developers. By examining the mean/median value in conjunction with variability, one can infer the expected scalability on a given system. For example, the Cray mid-tier storage has been marketed as the magic bullet for data intensive applications. Initially, it did improve scalability and end-to-end performance. After understanding and eliminating variability in I/O operations, they were able to outperform any configurations involving mid-tier storage by using the back-end file system directly. They will also discuss the impact of network performance and contrast results on the Cray Aries HPC network with results on InfiniBand.

IEEE 802.11 is a set of media access control (MAC) and physical layer (PHY) specifications for implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication in the 2.4, 3.6, 5, and 60 GHz frequency bands. The goal of 802.11 is to provide simple, robust, and affordable wireless connectivity along with time-bound and asynchronous services. It uses either spread spectrum or infrared signaling techniques. The standard defines the MAC sublayer and three physical layer types: infrared, frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS), and direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSSS). It supports infrastructure-based and ad-hoc network configurations.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
