simplicity and get their
network up and running
faster, freeing resource
for new projects
Does your customer have
more than one site or
environment and needs
to see the full picture at a
glance?
 This is an opportunity as
we can provide a
remote, single view of
their wired and wireless
network, across multiple
sites

“Ruckus doesn’t offer an end-to-end solution”
“Can Cloud support a business of my size, or is it
just for smaller customers”
“How secure is Ruckus Cloud, I don’t want cross
border transmission”
?
?
?
“Ruckus Cloud is not feature-rich”
?

Ruckus Cloud is Not Feature-Rich Enough
Customer Objection Statement
“Is Ruckus Cloud feature-rich enough to support my needs?”
Ruckus Response
 Let’s not confuse simplicity with performance - Ruckus Cloud is designed for the IT
department who demand enterprise-grade performance, but with less complexity
 The top “most requested” features including robust Guest Wi-Fi with social media log-in
in 6 clicks (available on the mobile app), six months of stored data, rich reporting and
analytics as well as simple, intuitive navigation
 Further features and enhancements continue to rollout e.g. Client Isolation, PCI
compliance, enhanced ICX Management and more whilst maintaining a simple user-
experience
28

How Secure is Ruckus Cloud?
Customer Objection Statement
“I’m concerned about using the Cloud to store my data and my customers usage data, how
safe is this and where is the data stored?”
Ruckus Response
 We have in-region datacenters in Europe for hosting e.g. Frankfurt so your data stays
where it should
 Our Ruckus Cloud solution is GDPR compliant, full terms and conditions are on the
website
 All control data is encrypted (SSH) and mutual authentication via certificates validates
the network device to the Cloud and vice versa
 The web interface and mobile app are fully encrypted with stringent data access, data
disposal and security measures

Can Ruckus Cloud Support a Business of My Size?
Customer Objection Statement
“Is Ruckus Cloud able to meet the demands of enterprises, or is it better suited to smaller
companies with more basic needs?”
Ruckus Response
 Ruckus Cloud core functionality is built around our SmartZone controllers allowing
customers to operate in the most challenging environments. Ruckus Cloud uses the
same AP hardware and ICX switches offering the same enterprise-grade performance
 We have many enterprise customers using Ruckus Cloud Wi-Fi across hundreds of sites
 Our new ML-driven analytics platform automatically identifies service incidents,
meaning IT teams can anticipate connectivity problems and prevent downtime for
business-critical applications and services
30

Ruckus Doesn’t Offer an End-to -End Solution
Customer Objection Statement
“Ruckus’ wireless is great, but with Meraki I can get security, firewalls and everything
included with my Meraki solution?”
Ruckus Response
 Ruckus has historically been known for great wireless performance, and more recently
for its award-winning ICX switches, based on Foundry/Brocade Technologies, all of which
can now be managed with Ruckus Cloud
 In addition, we have recently launched our ML-driven Analytics platform, allowing
customers to predict and anticipate network problems
 We offer best-of-breed networking, and allow our partners and customers to make that
same choice in quality for their vendors for additional components (e.g. firewall) rather
than deliver ”good-enough” elements for the sake of completion

Migration of APs from ZoneDirector to Ruckus Cloud
© 2019 CommScope, Inc.39
Migration of APs from ZoneDirector to Ruckus Cloud
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.40
• The following procedure looks difficult, but it is easy to perform if your APs
obtain an IP address from a DHCP server
- APs are factory defaulted during the migration - if they use a static IP that will be lost
• If NOT using DHCP then use one of the following methods:
- AP migration functionality in ZoneDirector:
https://support.ruckuswireless.com/articles/000009636
• May not be available for some ZD versions/AP models
- Manually convert ZD APs to Cloud firmware:
https://support.ruckuswireless.com/articles/000008371
Prerequisites for the migration
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.41
• A DHCP and a TFTP server is required on the AP network
- APs will be set to factory default during the migration and lose their static IP addresses if
not running on DHCP. The TFTP-server is where the APs get their intermediate step
standalone firmware from
• Make sure all your APs are connected and operational!!
• Backup the ZoneDirector
• Get a list of the AP Names, IPs and Serial Numbers by exporting the AP table from the
ZD GUI
- If you are on a real old ZD version you may not be able to export serial numbers so you will
have to go into AP details individually to get them, or use SNMP as detailed on the next slide
A little bit of SNMP, because it’s simple …
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.42
• SNMP – Simple Network Management Protocol is disabled by default in ZD and
therefor needs to be enabled. Go to:
ZD  System  System Settings  Network Management (end of page) 
- Enable SNMP Agent
- Enable Inherit SNMPv2 for APs
- SNMP RO community: public
- SNMP RW community: *********
• Use snmpwalk wherever you like, either on Linux, iOS or MS-Windows:
https://download.elifulkerson.com/files/net-snmp-compiled-win32/5.8/snmpwalk.exe (Windows)
• List of AP serials:
Linux: $ snmpwalk -v2c -c public ZD_IP_Addr 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.2.1.1.2.1.1.5 | cut -d'"' -f2
Windows: C:> snmpwalk.exe -v2c -c public ZD_IP_Addr 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.2.1.1.2.1.1.5 2>nul
• List of AP IP-addresses:
Linux: $ snmpwalk -v2c -c public ZD_IP_Addr 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.2.1.1.2.1.1.10 | cut -d' ' -f4
Windows:C:> snmpwalk.exe -v2c -c public ZD_IP_Addr 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.2.1.1.2.1.1.10 2>nul
Import the AP list into Cloud

AP-8,,Brandenburg Gate,511509003766,,,,
In Ruckus Cloud select “Add Networking Device”, download the AP Import template and populate it with
the AP Names, Venue and Serial Numbers then Import it back into Cloud
Further preparation
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.44
• If configured, disable DHCP option 43 or DNS discovery to prevent APs trying to
reconnect to the ZD using them
- The APs will use the Ruckus Cloud hosted registration service to connect to Cloud
• Disable AP auto-approve in the ZoneDirector:
ZD  System  AP General Settings  Access Point Policies  Approval  disable the checkbox
• Delete all approved APs in ZD (they might reappear after a few seconds as
“Unapproved” APs, doesn’t matter)
• Download and install the tool Crossbreeder to manage AP firmware update:
• Deploy a TFTP server on the network
• Download/copy the latest AP Solo firmware (11x.x or newer) files into the TFTP
directory and rename them in the format <AP_model>_firmware.bl7
Import the AP IP Addresses into Crossbreeder
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.45

• Just click on GO!
• The result is:
Login Failed, because
Crossbreeder connects
to the APs using SSH
and requires the ZD
login credentials
Correct the AP Login details and try again…
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.47
• Correct the login
details to be that of
your ZD and click GO!
again
• You will see all the
information
Crossbreeder retrieves
from the APs
Note: The AP FW Version is
based on the ZD
Version
Set the APs to factory defaults
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.48
• Activate Reset AP to
factory default
• Reboot AP
• But do NOT Change
Firmware yet!
• And GO!
• The APs will lose all
their configuration
Change Firmware
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.49
• De-activate Reset AP to
factory defaults!
• De-activate Reboot AP!
• Enable Change
Firmware:
- Mode: TFTP
- TFTP-server IP address
- Specify the firmware
filename schema (%m is a
placeholder for the Model)
• GO!
Note: Crossbreeder uses
super/sp-admin to log in
after factory defaults
Verify the progress of the firmware udpate
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.50
• Leave the first
instance doing its
thing and open a 2nd
instance
• Click on GO! From
time to time and see
the changes
• Version 11x.x comes
from Crossbreeder /
TFTP server (interim
update)
• Version 5.x comes
from the Cloud
In Cloud: APs coming online (can take up to 15 minutes!)
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.51
Final Steps
© 2020 CommScope, Inc.52
• Check all migrated APs are up and running in the Cloud
• Perform the final configuration:
- WLANs
- Groups
- Permissions
- Maps
- Profiles & Polices
- etc.
• Sit back and relax!

  • 39. Migration of APs from ZoneDirector to Ruckus Cloud © 2019 CommScope, Inc.39
  • 40. Migration of APs from ZoneDirector to Ruckus Cloud © 2020 CommScope, Inc.40 • The following procedure looks difficult, but it is easy to perform if your APs obtain an IP address from a DHCP server - APs are factory defaulted during the migration - if they use a static IP that will be lost • If NOT using DHCP then use one of the following methods: - AP migration functionality in ZoneDirector: https://support.ruckuswireless.com/articles/000009636 • May not be available for some ZD versions/AP models - Manually convert ZD APs to Cloud firmware: https://support.ruckuswireless.com/articles/000008371
  • 41. Prerequisites for the migration © 2020 CommScope, Inc.41 • A DHCP and a TFTP server is required on the AP network - APs will be set to factory default during the migration and lose their static IP addresses if not running on DHCP. The TFTP-server is where the APs get their intermediate step standalone firmware from • Make sure all your APs are connected and operational!! • Backup the ZoneDirector • Get a list of the AP Names, IPs and Serial Numbers by exporting the AP table from the ZD GUI - If you are on a real old ZD version you may not be able to export serial numbers so you will have to go into AP details individually to get them, or use SNMP as detailed on the next slide
  • 42. A little bit of SNMP, because it’s simple … © 2020 CommScope, Inc.42 • SNMP – Simple Network Management Protocol is disabled by default in ZD and therefor needs to be enabled. Go to: ZD  System  System Settings  Network Management (end of page)  - Enable SNMP Agent - Enable Inherit SNMPv2 for APs - SNMP RO community: public - SNMP RW community: ********* • Use snmpwalk wherever you like, either on Linux, iOS or MS-Windows: https://download.elifulkerson.com/files/net-snmp-compiled-win32/5.8/snmpwalk.exe (Windows) • List of AP serials: Linux: $ snmpwalk -v2c -c public ZD_IP_Addr 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.2.1.1.2.1.1.5 | cut -d'"' -f2 Windows: C:> snmpwalk.exe -v2c -c public ZD_IP_Addr 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.2.1.1.2.1.1.5 2>nul • List of AP IP-addresses: Linux: $ snmpwalk -v2c -c public ZD_IP_Addr 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.2.1.1.2.1.1.10 | cut -d' ' -f4 Windows:C:> snmpwalk.exe -v2c -c public ZD_IP_Addr 1.3.6.1.4.1.25053.1.2.2.1.1.2.1.1.10 2>nul

  • 44. Further preparation © 2020 CommScope, Inc.44 • If configured, disable DHCP option 43 or DNS discovery to prevent APs trying to reconnect to the ZD using them - The APs will use the Ruckus Cloud hosted registration service to connect to Cloud • Disable AP auto-approve in the ZoneDirector: ZD  System  AP General Settings  Access Point Policies  Approval  disable the checkbox • Delete all approved APs in ZD (they might reappear after a few seconds as “Unapproved” APs, doesn’t matter) • Download and install the tool Crossbreeder to manage AP firmware update: - http://dogtag.tacoppini.com • Deploy a TFTP server on the network • Download/copy the latest AP Solo firmware (11x.x or newer) files into the TFTP directory and rename them in the format <AP_model>_firmware.bl7
  • 45. Import the AP IP Addresses into Crossbreeder © 2020 CommScope, Inc.45 ap_ip.csv: 192.168.1.5 192.168.1.53 192.168.1.86 192.168.1.105 192.168.1.115 192.168.1.174 192.168.1.177 192.168.1.200
  • 46. Run Crossbreeder with defaults to see the AP information © 2020 CommScope, Inc.46 • Just click on GO! • The result is: Login Failed, because Crossbreeder connects to the APs using SSH and requires the ZD login credentials
  • 47. Correct the AP Login details and try again… © 2020 CommScope, Inc.47 • Correct the login details to be that of your ZD and click GO! again • You will see all the information Crossbreeder retrieves from the APs Note: The AP FW Version is based on the ZD Version
  • 48. Set the APs to factory defaults © 2020 CommScope, Inc.48 • Activate Reset AP to factory default • Reboot AP • But do NOT Change Firmware yet! • And GO! • The APs will lose all their configuration
  • 49. Change Firmware © 2020 CommScope, Inc.49 • De-activate Reset AP to factory defaults! • De-activate Reboot AP! • Enable Change Firmware: - Mode: TFTP - TFTP-server IP address - Specify the firmware filename schema (%m is a placeholder for the Model) • GO! Note: Crossbreeder uses super/sp-admin to log in after factory defaults
  • 50. Verify the progress of the firmware udpate © 2020 CommScope, Inc.50 • Leave the first instance doing its thing and open a 2nd instance • Click on GO! From time to time and see the changes • Version 11x.x comes from Crossbreeder / TFTP server (interim update) • Version 5.x comes from the Cloud
  • 51. In Cloud: APs coming online (can take up to 15 minutes!) © 2020 CommScope, Inc.51
  • 52. Final Steps © 2020 CommScope, Inc.52 • Check all migrated APs are up and running in the Cloud • Perform the final configuration: - WLANs - Groups - Permissions - Maps - Profiles & Polices - etc. • Sit back and relax!

Editor's Notes

  1. Explain the Ruckus Portfolio ICX7850 is CRN Awarded!!! For the datacenter
  2. These are our patented technologies that make Ruckus APs the best on the planet. An example is in transportation. A bullet train with thousands of passengers shooting into a station will cause station Wi-Fi performance to degrade dramatically. Our Transient Client Management technology – is just one way Ruckus enhances Wi-Fi. --- Optional --- Per-packet adaptive Tx power: transmits lowest power for highest MCS rate. Adaptive Wi-Fi cell size: adapts Tx and Rx cell size Transient client mgmt: prevents transient clients from disrupting the network Airtime decongestion: optimizes mgmt traffic by selectively suppressing probe responses to free up airtime for client data traffic NW Capacity utilization: steers each client in real time to the radio resource for the best connection quality
  3. Question 1: Wired and wireless Keep question 3: single minded – focus on cost and TCO This is an opportunity for Ruckus Cloud as the intuitive UI means that administrative tasks can be simply and quickly completed, without requiring specialist networking knowledge This is an opportunity for Ruckus Cloud as the management platform is designed to centralize visibility across multiple venues or sites, easily managing and configuring settings for each environment remotely This is an opportunity for Ruckus Cloud as adopting Cloud-managed Wi-Fi allows greater business agility and an inclusive subscription based pricing model where everything is wrapped into one license cost This is an opportunity for Ruckus Cloud as the adoption of Ruckus Cloud guarantees the latest software release is available for the customer and updated automatically with no service disruption
  4. Major feature lags e.g. no client isolation (unusable for hospitality, guest wireless) - roadmapped? – phal already the roadmap (date needed)
  5. Is our product GDPR compliant? – Mittal statement on compliance.
  6. Ruckus Cloud is built on the same technology as our SmartZone controllers, engineered to provide an interface that is easier and simpler. Let’s not confuse simplicity with a lack of features, the Cloud solution is feature-rich and offers great performance just with a more intuitive interface. Ruckus Cloud also uses the same AP hardware, so the same patented technology is available to Ruckus Cloud customers, delivering superior connectivity and unparalleled performance whatever management platform they choose. We have many enterprise customers using Ruckus Cloud Wi-Fi managing hundreds of APs running over many sites in the most demanding environments.
