Practically set up, collect, monitor and demonstrate
responsible tourism practice with representative team

Collaborative process to commence with the signing of
the RT Charter for industry of the pilot team

on at least 3 of the 7 indicators from 2011 to 2013

Goals of the RT Pilot Project

Monitor, demonstrate and report on the progress of
responsible tourism practice in the Cape Town destination
and industry - 7 indicators
Start building the Cape Town RT Barometer
Establish the basis for an RT Management System
Expand and finalise the CT RT ‘How To’ guidelines
Benefits for Participants
Showcasing individual businesses – RT achievements and
initiatives
On-going support with reporting on RT progress (such as on
RT website) using the pilot team results
Inclusion in the CoCT’s RT-related media coverage and
communications including marketing, events, project
documentation and products, and other collateral
Eligibility to use the signed RT Charter and the Cape Town RT
logo/emblem in marketing
The development of a dedicated RT Portfolio for each
enterprise
The Next Steps
Meeting in October 2011 with pilot team, associations/partners
and specialists
Present and make available a Q&A document for clarification
Discuss a Terms of Reference/Brief for the project
Discussion of project coordination
Set out the appropriate engagement processes
Steps for the commencement of the project
Concluding Comments
Will be a learning process for all involved
An exciting project with advantages for everyone
Open to the development of feasible tools/mechanisms to
measure, monitor and demonstrate RT progress
Will identify further challenges and possibilities in RT practice
Enterprises not yet well established in RT and in monitoring,
will be assisted to develop this in the project
Where data cannot be provided given the nature, operation or
infrastructure of a business in the team – the demonstration of
RT achievement will be sought
