‘KANTHAPURA’:
• ACCHANKA: open-minded Brahmin women .
• KENCHAMMA: goddess of the village and
mother of himavathy.
• RATAN: widow and daughter of kamalamma.
• RANGAMMA: she published weekly political
pamphlet and sponsors.. She daily disccused
on nationalist movement.

3. ROLE OF WOMEN IN RAJA RAO’S
KANTHAPURA
• Women in raja rao’s kanthapura within the socio-political
realems. Rale played women in the indian fight for
mindipendence british against british rules.
• In our society women one were maginalize .
• In fiction but raja portrayed women as Heroic figuer.
• In raja rao’s kanthapura narrator is an old grand mother.
• It shows the one of the stylistioc devices of the novel.
• Kanchamma the goddess is the center of the village .
• The attachment and love for the mother is express in many
ways. Motherhood is represented by kenchamma.she
protected from sickness, diseases.

WOMENS EDUCATION IS PROBLAMETIC THAT MENTALITY OF
PEOPLE. HERE PATRIARCHY OPERATES.
WOMEN OF KANTHAPURA ARE IGNORANT AND
UNEDUCATED.WOMEN OF SEVIKA SANGHA WERE
TALKED ABOUT CLOTHES AND ORNAMENTS.

of kanthapura took charges of struggle .
• For freedome .they formed women’s volunteer
courps under the historical figure like laxmi bai ,
sarojini naidu etc.jarao pictures women taking part
in the national movement in kanthapura . It is with
the help of women that moorthy ,gandhi and other
man, brings in a lit of charge in village.

7. • In short we can say that women of kanthapura are
ignorant but we witnessed the immense chrge that
is gradually brought about in psyche of the narrow-
minded, prejudiced and understanding .
• There is one question raises that whether their rale
is a heroic/domainant or subaltern one. Are they
heroins are victims of their own that is being used
to sacrifice their physical and emotional need for
the victory of men? Who gets the medal in end.
