15. STRESS:
Either physical or mental stress causes excessive secretion
of Adreno cortico tropic hormone.
ACTH in turn increases glucocorticoid level in blood.
Glucocorticoids increase insulin resistance, decrease
glucose utilization, increase hepatic glucose production,
and impair insulin secretion.
These changes lead to a worsening of glycemic control in
individuals with DM and may precipitate diabetes in
other individuals. (Harrison’s principles of internal
medicine 2000)
• Glucocorticoids increase the blood glucose level in 2

16. • By increasing the glucogenesis in liver from amino acids.
Glucocorticoids enhance break down of proteins in extra hepatic
cells, particularly the muscle and, release of amino acids in to
circulation is also increased. When the amino acids enter the liver
from the blood glucogenesis is accelerated.
• By decreasing the glucose uptake and utilization by peripheral cells.
This action is called anti insulin action of Glucocorticoids.
• Thus in hyper secretion of Glucocorticoids, blood glucose level is
increased causing hyperglycemia, glucosurea and adrenal diabetes.

means Shoshana of Medas. Giving friction to
the body by Kashaya Churna is known as
Udvartana.
