Psychiatric Disorder
Psychiatric disorder may be defined as the mental disorder in which thought,
action & feeling are not in equilibrium or the behavioural changes that causes
(subjective) distress, (objective) disability or loss of freedom which is not socially
expected behaviour.
Astrology
Astrology is the science in which the movement of the Nakshatra & Graha are being
noticed and thus on the basis of calculation of these movements predictionscan be
done. In Hindu mythology planets are being worshiped by Hindus for their mental
peace. In Ayurveda medical astrology is also mentioned for the treatment of the
mental diseases.

Astrological aspect in Psychiatry
 Moon, Mercury, fourth house and fifth house are analyzed for mental
disorders in a horoscope. Moon is the heart (lord of satva) and Mercury is
the brain. Similarly, Fourth house is the heart and the fifth house denotes
brain. Moon and the fifth house are considered to play a significant role in a
situation where a person loses his mental stability due to the turmoil of
emotion. In the same way, fourth house play a significant role in mental
disorder such as Schizophrenia. On the other hand, Saturn and Moon
conjuncts (Visha Yoga) are also not considered to be auspicious for mental
health.
 Afflictionsto the Moon (Satva), Mercury (nervous system) and Jupiter
(maturity / wisdom). Particularly,whenall three of these planets are
afflicted,conditions leading to mental illnessare highly possible.
 An afflicted fifth lord. The fifth house can correspond to thinking, logic and
wisdom.
 Kemadruma Yoga – This is a condition occurs when the moon has no
planets in either of the signs surrounding it. When there is no planet in the
2nd or the 12th from the moon, the soundness of the mind may become an
issue. Again, the entire chart needsto be viewed.
 There are four astrological signs which are inherently prone to depression –
Scorpio, Capricorn, Gemini and Sagittarius. These signs tend to express
their problems through the symbol of depression in their own particular
mode.
 A person has a tendency of acquiring mental disorder of the Moon is situated
with Rahu in the same house of a horoscope. This is because Rahu makes
you delusional and Moon is the karaka of heart. In this situation, the native

 When Mercury is situated with the maleficplanet in the third, sixth, eighth
or twelfthhouse of a horoscope.

What I have attempted to do is to show the power of some of the ancient
classics in terms of diagnostic tools perfected centuries ago. Meanwhile,
psychiatry and psychology still grapple with clumsy, constantly revised
diagnostic tools, such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV (DSM-IV),
the book by which all psychiatric clinical diagnoses are measured.
