This document is a dissertation report submitted by Rohit Ashok Shingade to earn a Master of Technology degree in Physical Metallurgy. The report examines the effect of vacuum assistance on reducing porosity in A380 alloy castings produced using high pressure die casting. Experiments were conducted using a die casting machine equipped with a vacuum system. The experiments varied casting process parameters like plunger speed and vacuum start/end points. It was found that vacuum assistance significantly reduced gas porosity volume and pore size in the castings, improving density. An optimum injection speed was identified for producing high performance castings with low porosity.
