This presentation is for Teen Entrepreneurs who are trying to figure out their 'Why' and where they belong. I presented it for the U.S. Small Business Administration, National Small Business Week 2010. They recorded the audio but need approval from legal. So since I don't think the approval has been made yet, :-P I included the key talking points on each slide (hence why it's a little wordy). The objective of the presentation is to give teen entrepreneurs so guidance, who need support figuring out their purpose or finding their way in business.
Job Search Survival Kit -- OK School's Out, Now What --Anthony Hines
This presentation will give some tips to the recently graduated college student who is about to enter the workforce. It will focus on the skills and networking ability that have already been created and show the reader how to proceed in the job search process.
Who Am I….I am a hardworking guy who, like many others, found himself out of work during the economic downturn in 2010. After a long battle of wrong turns, job search strategies that led to no where, and dead end leads, I decided to take a more strategic approach to my job search. Like anything else in life, I needed to treat my search like a full-time job and create a plan that would allow me to stand out above the competition. This came in especially handy as I was in transition again in 2017. Basically, I just used the tips that I have shared with others and was out of work a total of ZERO days. Yes, I got a job offer the day after my last day at my previous job. Let me show you how I did it so you too can have a quicker landing than you would have had without my tips.
Why Am I Sharing What Helped Me…because I quickly realized that to handle an event like that is to focus on what you can control and share the experience to help others. I believe that an experience not shared is a lost opportunity in life, and that smart people learn from their mistakes and smarter people learn from other people’s experiences. Plus, I told myself that once I figured this out I would share it with others so that they too could navigate the world of unemployment. In these chapters, I show you how I did it so that you will have the confidence to make it through the process. I hope that this presentation helps you to get your next great job.

Over two hundred years of collective experience has gone into this document. Those who contributed are not only talented individuals with a wealth of knowledge, but also compassionate professionals who remember what it's like to be a student. They've all taken time out of their already overtaxed schedules to share a lesson based on their own personal experience.
Everyone was asked one simple question: What makes a good advertising intern?
Despite being so open-ended, the question yielded many common themes. Passion for the business, a positive attitude and an amazing work ethic were mentioned a number of times. Enthusiasm was also highlighted often, as was - hmm - proper hygiene. Each and every contributor was brutally honest and candid. Anyone who reads this revealing document owes them a huge debt of gratitude.
The advertising interview is not like other job interviews. It's special. It's different.
And often times the importance of it is overlooked, especially by students and juniors.
Over and over again you're told that the only thing that matters is your book so it's not completely surprising that students sometimes neglect the details that would make a good interview great.
The truth is, having a great book is paramount. However, having a good interview will make your work shine that much brighter and a bad interview will have the inverse effect.
The internet is a tad short on resources dedicated to this particular topic though. So even if an eager young creative was savvy enough to look up tips for acing an interview with their dream agency, they would probably come up short. Sure, there are loads of documents out there that'll help you get ready for an interview at a bank. Or an accounting firm. But instances are probably far and few between of Creative Directors asking applicants to list three of their strengths and three of their weaknesses. The advertising interview is a special kind of beast.
Fortunately, some of the brightest in the business agreed to share their tips for acing your next agency interview, beyond just having a great book. So good luck and remember: you've been warned.

What The Classroom Doesn't Teach: How To Become A Great EntrepreneurMarcus L. Howard
Are you not quite satisfied with business but can't figure out what's missing? Do you have a ton to do and have no idea where to start? Would you like to know with each step you take you're heading in the right direction? Would you like to narrow your "to do" list down to a few key items and let go of the rest? Would you like to work smarter, not harder?
The framework below will help you do just that. It will help you find your focus so you can do what you want to do and feel great about your life while you're doing it.
FOCUS Framework
Find Your Passion: Uncover the "one" thing that entrepeneurs care about most and the emotional reason you want to succeed as an entrepreneur.
Organize Your Team: An entrepreneur may have a revelation but their team most certainly hasn't. Learn to effectively communicate a new directive to the team and get members to "buy-in".
Commit To A Plan: Generate a plan that you and your team can follow with measurable milestones a complete list of action steps.
Utilize Mentors: Learn who are the five types of people every entrepreneur should keep around them if they sincerely want to succeed in business.
Suspend Your Desbelief: Uncover how to master the internal psychological tactics that are pivotal to pushing past barriers, blocks, and beliefs preventing entrepreneurial greatness.
Tip: only focus on 1 or 2 things at a time. Don't try to do everything at once. That will just lead to overwhelm. Give yourself a chance to worker smarter and you will get more done.
This framework will inspire you to TAKE ACTION. Nothing happens without it. In order to create the life you want you have to give your dreams, heart and spirit a voice and space in your life. However, this alone won't make things happen. You have to channel all these things into a clear course of action.
Instead of jumping into your "to do" list, take some time to reflect upon FOCUS. By doing so you'll put yourself on a life and/or business path that reflects more of what you really want. Determine your FOCUS first and you'll live a fuller, richer life.

Young professionals. Is this a contradiction of terms, or what is called an oxymoron?
After more than 25 years, I still love teaching college students. This generation has an energy, curiosity, openness and work ethic that is inspiring and contagious. I am optimistic about the future because these students will be leading us there. They don’t care what color you are, who you want to marry or to whom you pray, or if you pray at all. They care about making a difference and finding their passion. Students believe in fairness and equity, want to give back and have a desire to be successful.
I have lots of respect for my students and their generation. I feel comfortable sharing ideas about where they might look to grow and improve in their professionalism. Before I do, there are two presumptions I make. First, millennials (today’s students in their 20s and 30s) believe they are entitled, but it’s not the same entitlement that my contemporaries might recognize. Instead of the “you-owe-me” attitude, they harbor what I call the “aren’t-you-going-to-do-that-for-me?” entitlement. As in: “Aren’t you going to prepare all of the notes that we will need for the test?” and “Aren’t you going to overlook my absences from class because I have lots of other responsibilities?” The entitlement is not a belligerent demand, but a polite expectation. Even so, some days it amazes me what some students expect.
The second presumption? My generation created the phenomenon, in case you’re looking for a target to blame. The well-intended soccer moms and dads “shuttling” their children to and fro everywhere and the progressive parents who filled their child’s day with activities so they would be stimulated. (Full disclosure: I am not a parent, so you may dismiss my second point if you want.)
I kept a learning diary for my entrepreneurship class studies at Tallinn University of Technology. Here is my reflections about entrepreneurship. Enjoy reading!

These are a few of the projects from Teen Entrepreneurs and young entrepreneurs connected to the Renegade CEO's virtual incubator. From patenting a performance shoe to 'Fixing Detroit' their projects are across the map, literally and figuratively. Being that it has been a couple of years since I last made a slideshow update, I thought I would highlight some of my recent teens and major success stories achieved over the past 18 months. As always, thank you tremendously for your support.
This presentation was for First Tuesday (UK based organization), when they did their official launch in Melipilla, Chile (October 2010). Few people spoke English, so the presentation was done in Spanish and English. I also was interviewed by Melpilla, TV news. And everytime I go to events in Chile someone always recognizes me from the Melpilla news interview. Too funny.
This is a presentation I did for Start Up Chile in their inaugural year (Sep 2010). I presented at their 3rd meetup before they were internationally known and widely popular. I was giving entrepreneurs tools and ideas of how to get their name out there on a budget as the premise behind Start Up Chile is to encourage foreign entrepreneurs (World Class Talent) to come to Chile and bootstrap their business for 6 months with a $40k grant from the Chilean Ministry of Economy.
This was a talk I did in Clayton, NY Thousand Islands School District in April 2010. It was in collaboration with my teen entrepreneur Matthew Turcotte, in celebration of his book launch for 'Main Street to Mainstream' and also his acceptance into Clarkson University (Full Scholarship for Entrepreneurship) and first student accepted into their Young Entrepreneur Award Program. This was one of my first 'major' speaking presentations. I can't believe how far I have come with my presentation skills in one year.

This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Roadmap for Teen Entrepreneurs Finding Their Way
1. Me…Myself….and WHY? Me, Myself and Why?: A Business Roadmap for Determined Teens Who are Making Their Way Presented By: Shonika Proctor, Co-Founder Renegade CEO’s February 25, 2010
2. 2. My Entrepreneurial Journey Me, Myself and Why? Shonika Proctor at Young Entrepreneur Society Movie Premiere with twins Shane and Shawn of Shane and Shawn Shoes I built my business for my customer (and they filled the gaps of my inexperience). I built my business for me. I had little experience in my industry and I seldom struggle. I had a lot of experience in my industry and I often struggled. My business chose me because I was inspired by MY WHY! I chose my business because of my circumstances. My business started me. I started my business. In 2008…. In 2005….
3. 3. Presentation Overview Me, Myself and Why? Young people come up with creative and brilliant ideas everyday. Yet, they are often ‘unsure’ how to pursue their great ideas or turn their concepts into entrepreneurial ventures. Frequently this is because teens haven’t figured themselves out yet; they don’t realize how their ideas fit into the greater scheme of things; they don’t necessarily understand the direction of their life yet and how much control they have of it; and they don’t fully have a grasp of how things go together. The process that they undergo to discover themselves and understand how they fully connect with their environment is what I call their ‘WHY’. Danielle Herb, 16, provides equine therapy for ADD/ADHD and Autistic kids through the use of natural horsemanship. She started her company when she was 13.
4. 4. Topic Relevance to Teen Entrepreneurs Me, Myself and Why? Everything and everyone around you is a tool to your success and not an obstacle to it. The most accomplished entrepreneurs are those who understand this and have been able to create opportunities where other people saw problems. It will be easier for you (regardless of your age or experience) to turn problems into opportunities once you know and start connecting with Your WHY… (photo right) Matthew Turcotte, 17, on the cover of Absolutely Business Magazine (NY, Nov 2009). His company, North Shore Web Development, designs websites for small towns all over the U.S. because Matt realized a lot of web design companies were too expensive for businesses in small towns like the one he lives in. He just finished publishing a book, from Main Street to Mainstream and is the only entrepreneur in his high school. Matthew Turcotte, 17, CEO of North Shore Web Development

6. 6. Discovering Your WHY! Me, Myself and Why? YOUR WHY ….is one of the most critical things that you need to discover in the early stages of your business….yet it is something that you are not going to be able to read about in a book, find on the internet or learn in a class. It’s also something that teens find a little embarrassing to talk about in general conversation. On the following slide are some important ‘WHY’ questions I often answer for teens on what it means to ‘turn problems into opportunities’ and thus being able to discover their WHY. Discovering Your Why is a process that everyone must go through regardless of age and whether you choose to work for yourself or someone else. (photo courtesy: Fractal Artist on Flickr)

8. 8. Step 1. Me, Myself and Why? Why are you unsure about starting your business? A. You don’t know where to begin or what’s the first step A. You don’t know who would be willing to support you (for free) A. You don’t have enough [money, experience, time etc] Step 1: Recognize and appreciate your value. Just because you don’t have business experience and you don’t have money doesn’t mean you don’t have value or that you are inferior. AzureRae Turner , 13, model, actress and creator of Dream Azure Fragrance Line. She also hosts self esteem workshops for tween and teen Girls.
9. 9. Step 2. Me, Myself and Why? Why does everybody you know seem to have a ‘Master Plan’ for you….EXCEPT YOU? A. You are not being clear and confident on what you want. It’s more important to say what you want, not what you don’t want. Stay in tune to the goal (dream) not on the process/how. Step 2: Follow and further explore the things that makes your heart sing. Passion is a defining point for many in discovering their why. Unfortunately, it is often confused as being what your good at… but in reality it’s what’s good for you!

11.
12. 12. Step 5. Me, Myself and Why? Why don’t people take me seriously? A. It’s not about what you will do. It’s about what you have (or have not) done. The answers to your future are hidden in your past. Step 5: Find strength and inspiration in the trials and tribulations in your life because other people will do the same. While you cannot rewrite your story from the beginning, you can write a new ending starting from today.
13. 13. Step 6. Me, Myself and Why? WHY don’t I know my WHY? A. Because you do not yet fully trust your own advice. It will come in time as you go out and create more experiences and relationships. Step 6: ASK family, friends, teachers, faith based and community leaders what types of things they think you are good at. Then ask yourself if you agree. You will most likely see patterns and commonalities in regards to what others see in you. Is the person they describe the ‘real’ you or the person you desire to be? In reflecting on your answer (which could take some time but will come), you will discover your WHY .
14. 14. Step 7. Me, Myself and Why? WHY am still confused as to what I am supposed to do next? :) A. Entrepreneurship is creative as it is structured. It is a lot like life – the most important lessons you will learn can’t be taught by a teacher, a textbook or a strange voice talking through your computer. Step 7: Entrepreneurship - You must LIVE IT to learn it! Follow your internal compass . It always points Due North so you can never get lost. Like there are no universal instructions for life, the same holds true for starting and running a business. What works for someone else may not necessarily work for you because there are way too many variables in your personal situations.
15. 15. Closing Thoughts Me, Myself and Why? You may be asking yourself just now, “Where is the Roadmap” mentioned at the beginning of my presentation. Well, what I have found in coaching teens through many types of businesses they started is: Every business has it’s own ‘map to success’ . The key to finding your path is in the strength, passion and determination you put into whatever [ad) venture YOU create. Daniel Uribe , 20, attending a ‘board meeting’ :)
