What are the events in the world’s history which were considered risky
decisions but later proved to be most impactful in human history?
I am sharing with you my list of such events.
2. 1. European exploration of new worlds
•Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, India by Vasco D
gamma and
•Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish and British explorations are legendary
•Adventurous and brave explorers helped Europe to come out of
the dark age and also as a catalyst to the first industrial revolution,
which had a tremendous impact on the entire world
3. 2. Second world war events
•Battle of Stalingrad; Russians decision to defend the cities and not
retreat to Siberia resulted in their ability to raise a counteroffensive
against Nazi forces later
•American participation in the war later resulted in their ability to
get the favored deal in the distribution of oil exploration in Gulf
•Chinese military retreat during Sino-Japan war (1939); though
resulted in the death of half a million Chinese and displacement five
million but later resulted in a nation which it is today
4. 3. Chinese investment in Africa, Europe, Asia
• This could be the biggest sovereign risk taken by a country in 21st
Century
• Its bit early to say if this investment would provide China the
ability to secure land (food), Oil and other commodities supply
• Become super power to dominate Asia and beyond and probably
push States out of South China Sea
• One Belt and One road initiative (OBOR) strategy focuses on
connectivity and cooperation between Eurasian countries

5. 4. Migration of people from steppes
• People who decided to migrate and settle near the south Asian
rivers Indus and Ganges
• This event created which eventually created what we now know
as a nation to be India
• India is currently no.6 in GDP terms and one of the fastest
growing economy in the world
• Amazing that group of Steppe people saw an opportunity to
settle
