A beach house in Charlestown was sold Dec. 29 for $2.75 million, according to
Lila Delman Real Estate International. It was one of the top five sales in
Charlestown in 2016, the agency said.
The 2,284-square-foot house, built in 1997 at 165 Surfside Ave. in the Central
Beach section of Quonochontaug, had been owned for many years by U.S.
District Judge John J. McConnell Jr., and his wife, Sara McConnell, according to
Charlestown records. Online deed records identify the buyer as John C. DiIorio,
of Pomfret Center, Connecticut.
The house had been listed recently for $2.95 million by Raymond Mott of Mott
& Chace Sotheby's International Realty. Nicole Maine, of the Delman agency's
Narragansett office, represented the buyer.
In October, a house at 179 Surfside Ave. sold for $3.8 million after just 18 days
on the market. In November 2015, 159 Surfside Ave. sold for $4 million.
Biggest sale in Cranston
A house at 225 Marjoram Drive in Cranston's Pine Ridge/Alpine Estates
neighborhood, which sold Dec. 12 for $710,000, was the biggest sale in Cranston
for 2016, according to listing agents Gina and Tom Howarth, of RE/MAX 1st
Choice in Cranston.

bedroom house was built in 2007 and has 4,153 square feet of living space,
according to the listing information.
Volunteers sought for homeless count
The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless needs volunteers to help with the
annual Point-in-Time Count required by the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development.
This year's PIT Count will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 7 to 10 p.m. The PIT
Count is spearheaded by the Rhode Island Homeless Advocacy Project, R.I.
Coalition for the Homeless and other members of the Statewide Outreach
Committee. Volunteers will be trained and will accompany a team going out the
night of the count. No prior experience is needed, just a commitment to helping
those who are experiencing homelessness.
For those interested in helping out there are two upcoming training sessions to
learn all about the PIT. Volunteers only need attend one of the sessions. The first
will be held Tuesday, Jan. 17, 9 to 10 a.m. and the second is Thursday, Jan. 19, 5
to 6 p.m. The sessions will he held in Pawtucket at the R.I. Coalition for the
Homeless office at 1070 Main St., third floor conference room. For more

PPS annual meeting set for Jan. 25
The Providence Preservation Society will hold its 2017 annual meeting
Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wheeler School's Isenberg Auditorium in
the new Gilder Center for the Arts, 224 Angell St., Providence.
The meeting will feature a keynote address on "radical preservation" by
renowned architects Amale Andraos and Dan Wood. Andraos, the dean of
Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and
Preservation, and Wood, FAIA, LEED AP, are the principals at WORKac, in
New York, where they lead international design projects.
During the meeting, PPS will also unveil its 2017 Most Endangered Properties
advocacy list and present Preservation Awards to recognize recent projects,
people and initiatives that align with its mission to improve Providence.

3. The program is free and open to all. Advance registration is required. There will
be a light reception following the program.
