Our Rating: 14+
Star Rating (3/5):
The experimental and distinct A
Short Film created by Jed Hunt,
Dylan Yull, and Clarice Robbins
depicts the morning routine of a
young teenage boy after a night
out. We watch him wake, throw
up, shower, and make himself
breakfast; this allows for the
audience to relate with the
character. With the unique use of
a Go Pro camera allowing for the
director to produce a 170 degree
field of view, it also gives the
audience the ultimate first-hand
experience. The story line is
creative and innovative, with the
use of the fake sick and under
water shot which puts the
audience in complete
involvement with the situation.
The character is then greeted
with two men dressed in suits
who demand information from
him; they take him from his
house and lead him to a wooded
area, where we believe that we
see the character being pushed
off a ledge.
At first the audience is led to
believe that the film may end
with the end of the characters
day, however it ends on a cliff
hanger that leaves the audience
extremely confused; this however
produces the experimental
convention that appears in many
short films, where the director
uses different techniques
depending on how they want the
audience to feel.
Short Film Review: A Short Film It is obvious that the director
wanted the audience to be
unaware of what happens to the
character and why he was taken
from his home. Even though the
film is short and dialogue is
minimal, as the audience never
get the chance to see the face of
the character we have no choice,
which is also due to the point of
view shot used, to put ourselves
in the characters position. This
means that we feel and connect
with what happens to the
character, leaving the audience
to question and want to know
more.
Pros: brilliant use of alternative
technologies and engrosses the
viewer with the use of a cliff
hanger.
Cons: confusing storyline.
