Harriet Davie proposes creating a new water bottle brand inspired by the landscapes of Kilve, Somerset. She enjoyed capturing moments in time through her senses during a visit to Kilve. For her project, she will develop branding, packaging, and advertising for the water bottle line. She has contacted a graphic design company to act as her client and provide feedback. Her goal is to promote Kilve and encourage tourism through a premium water bottle targeting young professionals.

2. Kilve Findings
What I enjoyed most from the Kilve trip was learning to respond to a landscape using all the
senses which captures that moment in time. The sounds, the weather, how I felt in that
moment, and what I saw can really change and bring out certain emotions in a piece of art.
This is what would make a painting made from a photo and one that was made from still life
different. Something else that I really enjoyed was using natural resources to create a
sculpture in the forest.

It is clear from my drawings that i made
whilst in Kilve that I was really trying to
capture to the senses: how I felt whilst
drawing it, the weather, the textures and
the sounds.

4. Proposal 1: Water Bottle Brand
Brief: Create a water bottle line inspired by the landscapes and nature at Kilve, Somerset. Create advertising to support and promote the
new water bottle design.
I contacted a friend of mine that works for Bulletproof Graphic design company (who I worked for over the summer) and asked her to
act as my client and give me feedback on my work throughout this project. This is her response to my brief:
"I like it a lot!
I don’t think you should do an existing brand, I would treat it like
a new brand come up with a name and brand mark yourself.
This will enable you to have an idea that runs through the logo /
packaging and extends into advertising.
There maybe a word or a phrase that you have come across in
your research that inspires you.
Or maybe its a slightly made up word? something to do with
Kilve / filtration / landscapes?
Target market I would go for Males and Females 20 to 35 years
old.
Driven young professionals who believe the brands they buy say
a lot about them.
This wants to be bottle of Water they would be proud to have at
their table / or carry around.
The reference you have is really premium which I really like, so I
would go for a glass bottle - sold in restaurants and up scale
deli’s - you won’t find this in your local Tesco's.
I think spinning a bit of a story about how this is bottled fresh
from Kilve would be lovely!”

5. Initial logo designs
Before creating my logo on illustrator I could not decide between the
name qauntox or kove, so I chose to experiment with the two names to
see what ideas worked best.

7. Proposal 2: The‘Kilve Kafe’
Brief: to create the ‘Kilve kafe’ that would be aimed at walkers/families/tourists. The cafe would
emphasize nature/landscapes by selling very natural products. I could create the branding for
the cafe, a menu, take-away packaging and an interior layout of the cafe.
The need: There is a need for a Kilve cafe as there are there are no cafes’ in Kilve, besides the local
pub. A warm and friendly cafe would encourage tourists and hikers to visit as they would know
they could stop for a coffee/tea and light snack.

8. Proposal 3: Brochure/map
Brief: recreate a brochure with a folding map for families/hikers/tourists
that are visiting Kilve and want to get to know the landscape/area. The
map could be made up of Kilve landscapes qualities, colours and textures
could symbolize different things in the landscape.
The need: there is a Kilve brochure available but it is quite old and the
graphics have become rather dated.

9. Evaluation
In conclusion I am going to go forward with my first proposal which is to
create a water bottle brand, as I feel there is a need for a water bottle
aimed at a more premium target market which would encourage people
to visit Kilve and which would promote the area of kilve. I think creating
my own water bottle brand, means my project will be really broad and I
can take it any where I want rather than trying creating a water bottle
line with an existing brand which would limit the design potential. I am
going to be in contact with Bulletproof graphic design company for them
to act as my client and give me feedback throughout my project.
