2. Correlation Between Drug Use And Suicide Epidemic
Correlation Between Drug Use and Suicide
America s on going drug abuse epidemic continues into this millenium, and there are many
social problems linked to drug use, including suicide. The disparity of daily life in suburbs or the
inner cities are why many people have fallen into their reliance on drugs, including alcohol.
Patros and Shamoo (1989) describe the abuse of drugs and alcohol as a slow form of suicide. But
many drug abusers choose to end their life before drugs have time to claim it by way of an overdose.
Contradictory to popular belief, teens are not of the majority of drug related deaths. Teenagers
made up just two percent of drug related deaths in a 1994 survey of coroners. Many of these

Racially, African Americans have had a lower drug related suicide rate than Caucasians in the past.
But this number is expected to increase because of the increase in substance abuse in the African
American population. African Americans are at a higher risk of self destructive behavior.
Intoxication from alcohol or drug use often leads to suicidal behavior. Alcoholics who are also
depressed have an enormous rate of suicide. Both depressants and stimulants can impair judgement,
which produce disturbances and intense suicidal depression. Depressants such as alcohol, Valium,
and Librium are commonly used substances. In the case of Glasgow, Scotland, where ten percent
of all of Britain?s deaths occur, the area?s poor employment rate and young citizens? bleak
outlooks on life have brought on a new string of drug addiction, and in turn, deaths.
Their drug of choice is heroin, but the combine in tranquilizers in an attempt to draw closer to a

inner city. There is an alarming increase in drug abuse and violence, which soon will lead to
suicide attempts. This brings on another topic along the same lines which is the abuse of
prescription drugs such as Valium or Ritalin. Many deaths occur because of a fatal combination of
prescription drugs and alcohol.
Many recent studies have concluded that drug related suicide attempts are made primarily by a
drug abuser who

3. The Pre-Classical Er Hatha Yoga
Yoga emerged over five thousand years ago, known as the pre classical era, and is believed to be
developed by the Indus Sarasvati civilization in Northern India; although some researchers
believe Yoga is over ten thousand years old. The old sacred text, Rig Verda, is the oldest scripture
that yoga has been found in. The Upanishads took the idea of ritual sacrifice from the Verdas,
however they internalized it; this meaning to sacrifice the ego through self knowledge. In the post
classical era yogamasters abandoned the ancient Verdas and embraced a new style that involved
cleansing the mind and body; breaking the bond of our physical existence. This type of yoga is
primarily thought of as Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga has been proven to help not

the amount of air exhaled after taking a deep breath. Research at the University of Pennsylvania

Hatha yoga is called Iyengar yoga, this type focuses more on proper alignment and the use of

the pain intensity in adults who suffer from chronic neck pain. At western Virginia University
researchers found that using this type of yoga can also relieve chronic back pain. This type of yoga

4. Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water Essay
Silsbee enjoyed designing buildings that were inspired by the Victorian movement. Thus, his
buildings were very narrow and tall with an asymmetrical house design. Wright enjoyed
designing buildings that were more progressive with low pitched roofs and an open floor plan.
He described his own work as gracefully picturesque compared to the other brutalities of his time.
In 1888, Wright began working for the Adler and Sullivan firm. The firm was looking for
someone to finish the drawings for the inside of an Auditorium Building. Wright was quickly
chosen for the job and soon became an apprentice in the firm. However, while working at this firm,
he did not get along with the other draftsmen. Sullivan knew of this, took care of Wright, and...

Fallingwater is a house designed by Wright in 1935 that can be found South of Pittsburgh. This
innovative house was built over a waterfall. It was originally a house for businessman Edgar J.
Kaufmann and Liliane Kaufmann, but now it stands as a National Historic Landmark. While it
only took Wright two hours to design, it took nearly 3 years to build the house because of conflicts
between Wright and the construction contractor. The contractor thought Wright was inexperienced
and doubted his choice of using reinforced concrete. Thus, to help settle any worries the contractor
had, Kaufmann sent Wright s design to a firm of consulting engineers to approve of the said design.
Once Wright heard this, he grew offended and threatened to leave the project if his drawings weren
t returned. Kaufmann gave in to Wright s demands and ended up burying the consulting engineer s
report within a stone wall of the house. Another conflict Kaufmann and Wright had dealt with
supporting the West terrace. Kaufmann decided to instal a supporting wall underneath the West
terrace because there was a noticeable sag after the concrete formwork was removed from the
cantilever. Unfortunately for Kaufmann, Wright discovered this and secretly removed the top
course of stones. After about a month, Kaufmann told Wright what he had done. In return, Wright
showed Kaufmann what he himself had done and how for the past month the cantilever has held

Of all the important tasks facing an organization today, many do not fully appreciate the need and
value of a strong on boarding program. Without the correct tools a new manger will spend the

7. Analysis of four types of conflict in John Steinbeck s...
In John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath, the journey of the Joad family is riddled with conflict.
The family experiences all of the four major types of conflicts: man vs. himself, man vs. society,
man vs. nature, and man vs. man. In the case of The Grapes of Wrath, man represents the Joad
family as a single unit. They experience conflict within the family itself, with the society they are
coming from as well as the one they are going to, and with nature and the elements. The man vs.
man conflict is usually just a more specific example of one of the other areas of conflict.
The most prevalent conflict in the novel is man vs. society. The first example is the Joads being

The next big loss the family suffers is Noah leaving while the family is staying at the river. Ma, I
got somepin to tell ya. Noah he went on down the river. He ain t a goin on (294). This solidifies the
solid decline of the family state of the Joads. Family s fallin apart (294).
The final place the man vs. himself conflict arises is in the case of the blacklist. Tom s natural
instinct is to become a leader, and lead the people to revolt against the way the society is
working in the west. When the man Tom meets at the camp tells him that if he does that, he will
be blacklisted, in which case he won t be able to get work anywhere, and his family could quite
possibly starve. Well, you jus open your trap about us folks getting together, an you ll see. They
take your pitcher an send it all over. Then you can t get work nowhere. An if you got kids (336).
This represents a man vs. himself conflict because Tom has to resist his instincts to start a revolt,
and just lay low.
The man vs. man conflict is usually a representations of a different conflict. In The Grapes of Wrath
, the people the Joad family has conflicts with are usually some sort of personifications of another
area of conflict, for example, society. When the Joads are staying at the hooverville, and Tom and
Jim Casy attack the police officer, they aren t attacking him because they have a disagreement with
the man himself as much as because that police officer

8. Is Seagram A Long History Of Success From The Company And...
Definition of Project: Seagram has enjoyed a long history of success from its inception in 1924
with a single distillery in Canada to a world wise company. During this timeframe, global
recognition has afforded Seagram the opportunity to grow to 14,000 employees as well as
creatively diversify in a manner than many companies could not imagine. Unique purchases of oil
companies as well as what some might argue to be more logical partnerships like fruit juices such
as Dole Food Company, Inc. created continued accomplishments that would shore up the company
and create a secure future. In addition calculated investments with DuPont, MCA Inc., which
includes Universal Studios and them parks as well as electric companies build an impressive
portfolio for Seagram as well. We know that highly diversified organizations are more successful,
firms whose business units are highly related to each other, such as in a focused company, are
outperformed by those whose business units are moderately unrelated to each other (Graham, 2012,
p.14). Although this argument makes little sense, Seagram has, for years, experienced the benefits
of being highly diversified. With the strength of diversification Seagram has created over its long
life offers a firm foundation for future growth and stability. The objective of this current project is
to evaluate the assets and design a plan that will utilize the strengths of the organization while

carbon emission would be dropped dramatically by 10% in the next 10 years. Even though the
report represented that greenhouse gas emission in Diabetes cares in 2013 as compared to 2010
increased by 30,000 tons (from 95,000 tons to 125,000 tons), the amount of emission decreased
of 42% in comparison to 2004. In spite of accelerating rates of sales growth in Diabetes care over
10 years, Novo Nordisk could imitate the environmental issue and achieve its main objective for
reducing the amount of carbon emission about 10%. In 2012, it was expected that energy
consumption stood at 6% in 2013. After being analyzed, it can be seen that there was a 6% rise in
energy consumption, which increased from 2,433 gigajoules in 2012 to 2,572 gigajoules in 2013.
Assessing the performance of Novo Nordisk in 2013 and 2014, net sales increased slightly by 6%
but the amount of carbon emission dropped by 4% from 125,000 tons to 120,000 tons because of
reducing system power consumption and having changed the filling plant which become more
environmentally friendly methods. It is clear to say that both carbon emission and energy
efficiency met its common target which was slightly better than in 2013.

Should Criminal Justice Managers be concerned with the personal aspects of employees lives?
In today s organization I do believe that it is important for managers to know some aspects of an
employee s life, that the employee themselves are willing to share with their managers. It is
important for managers to build rapport within their department and discussing some
information helps with building rapport with that employee. Items that can be discussed are; if
they have children, where they went to college, activities and interests they enjoy for leisure and
other basic topics of an employee s life. This helps the managers understand their employees
better. If the employee calls out of work due to a sick child, the manager will better understand
knowing that their employee has a child. I believe if the manager knows basic information about
their employee this provides a better sense of understanding and the manager feels like they can
relate to their employee. This provides a sense of comfort and assist with employees feeling like
they are understood and can trust their manager (Fatima, Razzaque, 2014). Personally, I like having

Poland s very high score on Uncertainty Avoidance (93) reflects its desire to maintain rigid codes
of belief and behavior. Poles are intolerant of different behavior and ideas, they believe that laws
are very important and should be followed and experts are always correct. Poles prefer formality,
titles and signs of status to demonstrate their authority over subordinates. U.S. managers, on the
other hand, regard the status symbols as counterproductive and meaningless. Finally, the U.S.
managers were far more informal in their communication style, comfortable with openness and
equality in their business relations and very trusting in the underlying goodness of people. In
contrast, by their national culture, Poles are distrustful and fearful of bosses who wish their
employees well and are suspicious of the positive feedback commonly used by the U.S. managers to

Unfulfilled basic needs create a violation to a child s belief system. Often times, adopted children
experience voided space inside as well as an unfathomable sense of disarray (Eldridge, 62). Carla
Duncan, a 1968 adoptee, recently expressed in a personal interview her mixed emotions:
Being adopted is like a double edge sword in that on one side, I have always felt very special to
say, I am adopted , because I was chosen and hand picked. On the other hand, however, I feel
different because I am adopted. In order to be chosen, I had to realize that someone also rejected
me. Someone did not want me. Sometimes I would look for long periods of time at myself in the
mirror, wondering who it was that I was really seeing. This feeling grew with great intensity as I
became a teenager and felt that no one really understood me.
Duncan, as is proven typical of other adoptees, has also experienced the common need to express
her adoption story, only to be let down at the un interest of peers. Misunderstanding often exists as a
residual psychological effect among adoptees (Eldridge, 91). With good intentions, adoptive parents
and other influential people may unknowingly contribute to the adoptee s mixed emotions. Indeed,
simple words and statements have the ability to negatively cut to the heart, tearing down emotions.

During my inquiry, I considered theories when planning, taking action, reflecting, evaluating and

During my inquiry, I made questions about student behaviour and made assumptions. As an
example student behaviour during Friday, last period was really disruptive. I assumed, that may be

18. Gdp Per Capita As An Indicator Of Standard Of Living
GDP per Capita As an indicator of standard of living GDP per capita is the market value of the
final goods and services produced in a country during a given period per person (McDowell et al.
2012). This could also be explained as a measure of quantity of goods and services available to a
typical resident of the country at a particular period. GDP per capita is used as an indicator of
standard of living because it reflects the accessibility of goods and services to a person. GPD
counts only the goods and services that have market value but they are just one of the measures
of standard of living. There are many other factors that affects standard of living and do not
contribute to GDP, e.g. environmental quality and leisure time (McDowell et al. 2012). China
has been facing serious ecological problem (e.g. water and air quality) while its economic grows.
Nonetheless, environmental quality cannot be bought or sold in the market, the issue is not
demonstrated in China s GDP. Other than that, leisure time available to a person can affect his
standard of living. The person is better off if he can enjoy more leisure activity. But leisure time is
not priced in market, and it does not give a rise in GDP. Another problem of using GDP per capita
is that it neglects purchasing power. Table 1 Real GDP per capita at 2013 (US$)Real GDP per

The Different Effects of Sugar Choice on Yeast Fermentation Rate
Sadia Mustofa
Abstract
Baker s yeast costs little to produce and is convenient to store and use. While baker s yeast can
ferment simple sugars, monosaccharides which are simple sugars and contains one or more
hydroxyl groups per molecule. It takes much longer to ferment polysaccharides which are
composed of two or more monosaccharides. In a beaker, 2g of yeast, 2g of a sugar and 100mL of
distilled water at 40В°C were combined in a 250 mL flask. Once the mixture was stirred for two
minutes, the fermentation rate was measured with a timer and the sugars were tested up to three
trials each. Fructose had the fastest average rate of fermentation at 1.42 minutes. Sucralose, ... Show

It is known that yeast can ferment sugars such as glucose, sucralose, fructose, saccharin, and
maltose but not ferment Truvia, starch, and lactose as efficiently. Simple sugars are known as
monosaccharides whereas complex sugars are polysaccharides because they are made up of
monosaccharides through dehydration reactions. A dehydration reaction occurs when a water
molecule is removed from the reacting molecule and the two molecules become covalently
bonded. Glucose and fructose are monosaccharides whereas, maltose, sucralose, starch, saccharin,
and lactose are polysaccharides. Truvia is the only sugar that is not either a monosaccharide or a
polysaccharide. All monosaccharides and polysaccharides are composed of some multiple of CH2O.
The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used for determining the fermentation of various sugars
because it is convenient to use and ferments quickly. Throughout the experiment, the only factor
that wasn t constant was the sugars used in the fermentation process. Based on this, it was
hypothesized that there would be differences in yeast fermentation of sugars.
Methods
2g of yeast, 2g of glucose, and 100 mL of distilled water at 40В°C were combined in a 250 mL
flask. A stir bar was placed in the flask. After the flask was gently stirred, the flask was placed on
the stir plate. Then, the stir setting was turned up to 8 slowly and stirred for two minutes. Another

Ronald Wilson Reagan As government expands, liberty contracts (Ronald Reagan Quotes). Those
who know anything about Modern Politics in the United States know that Ronald Reagan is the
poster child and founder of today s Conservatism. Today s Conservatism is at its core a hybrid
between the Conservatism of Theodore Roosevelt and that of the Libertarianism of Thomas
Jefferson. Libertarians believe that the Central or Federal government should be as small as
possible. As shown in the opening quote from Ronald Reagan he firmly believed that to keep the
freedom entitled to us by the Bill of Rights, the People must constrict government to give them
as minimal amount of power as possible. Ronald Reagan is certainly a controversial figure in the
face of politics. Democrats despise him and Republicans try to mimic his policies on both
foreign and domestic stages. Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in a small

31. Best Leaders For Rome in the Play, Julius Ceasar
Unlike the common view of leaders, the potential leaders of Julius Caesar are not necessarily
nice or giving. However, sometimes that is necessary. In the play Julius Caesar, a long tale of
leadership shows the true qualities of the greatest leaders. Where the reader finds themselves
started is at the point which Antony and Caesar, the overconfident leader of Rome, are discussing
people around them. This discussion boils to a point in which Antony and Caesar discuss the
possibility of Cassius being a threat to Caesar. Later, readers find Cassius is indeed a threat, as he
and multiple others, including Brutus, stab Caesar to death. Antony then brings Caesar s body to
the multitude, and with a great speech inspires a hatred for those who wrongfully stabbed him. At
the next point Antony is seen, he and Octavius are the new rulers of Rome. These two comrades go
and finally eliminate the last of the traitors, Cassius and Brutus, in a battle that cements the two as
the new leaders of Rome. Throughout all these actions, one man particularly showed that he should
control the Roman Empire. Antony was created to be Rome s leader in Julius Caesar, where William
Shakespeare gave him inspirational abilities, persuasiveness, and fearlessness which are
unparalleled. When Antony is heard speaking to the crowd, it was rather clear that he could
inspire large groups of people to take action with a startling eloquence given to him. A person that

Artemisia Gentileschi is unarguably a key player in the acceptance of women artists in a

Overcoming many hardships in her relationships, and even drawing inspiration from them, she
became known for the excellence and the unique way she portrayed popular subjects in her
artwork. Contemporary art critics have taken notice of her genius and talent in paving roads in an
exclusively male field, and for the feminist perspective she had that was ahead of her time.

Here in Florence she encountered the Tuscan style of painting and completed her work The
Penitent Magdalene in 1620. Her subject, Mary Magdalene, who is portrayed in this painting as a
wealthy woman of Artemisia s time, is a character from the New Testament of the Bible. There is
not many details of her life that are known, but what we do know is that she was a prostitute,
who changed her ways when she met Jesus. This painting is called The Penitent Magdalene, but
it could instead be called The Conversion of Magdalene, because this painting seems to capture
the moment she decided to change her life around. While she was in Florence, Artemisia had
many wealthy families commission her to create artwork for them, and many think that the
Medici family commissioned her for this particular painting. (Koen, Lisa) It is obvious by
Magdalene s expensive dress and exposed shoulders that she is a fallen woman . Her posture also
shows her penitence, and the jar of ointment in the bottom right hand corner is a signature attribute
of Magdalene. Artemisia s skill with her medium is apparent is the rich texture of Magdalen s
garment, and in the contrast between her and the background. There are a few theories as to why
Artemisia would choose to depict Mary Magdalene. Mary Garrard in her book Artemisia
Gentileschi Around 1622: The Shaping and Reshaping of an Artist s Identity (2001) has proposed
the following about how Artemisia might have connected with this particular biblical character:
Both Artemisia and Mary Magdalene were stigmatized as sexually promiscuous in both cases on
trumped up evidence and both had reputations as sinful women ...One can imagine that she might
have identified both with her troubled character s desire to escape the confinement of luxury she
found restrictive, and stifling, and, perhaps, with the Magdalene s yearning to move onto a higher
spiritual plane. (Garrard, Mary

In his book, Studies in Galatians, Tom Wacaster addresses a very vital need: to provide common

average member of the church to expand their understanding of God s word. This, as Wacaster
stated himself, was his goal in writing this very commentary. If [Studies in Galatians] serves to
give just one precious soul a better understanding of this wonderful letter...then it will have been
worth the time spent in preparing and publishing (3, 4). Wacaster has surely accomplished this
worthy objective and more with this valuable book. Wacaster s book, which is (as the title
suggests) centered on Paul s epistle to the Galatians, is very obviously intended to the common
level, average audience. Wacaster does not delve into complex conversations of textual variants,
manuscript discrepancies, and disputations of authorship, nor does he use vocabulary or
phraseology that is above the understanding of most individuals. Rather, Wacaster is simple,
straightforward, and effective in communicating his points on the wonderful book of Galatians.

presents about in relation to the sports of baseball, football and basketball are good I just wish his
chapters were shorter. Information can get lost quickly if there are 80 pages of information to read
about one sport. Aside from that, I learned a lot from his chapter about basketball. In chronological
order, Mandelbaum writes how the game of basketball shifted from a sport that was primarily white
to primarily African American. The first African American player to enter the NBA was in 1950.
By the 1980s four out of every five starting players in the league were black. Mandelbaum makes
the argument that African Americans were needed in the league or else the game would not

in the military for most of his life. All these things are important about Santa Anna and are
important to the Spanish world. He was very important and no one will ever forget the famous
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and what he did. I think Santa Anna was a pretty brave man
because he went through all of those battles for his country, had lost his leg, and was imprisoned
in Sisal, Yucatan. I also think Santa Anna wanted way too much power because he kept trying to
take over the military and the country. Also I think he deserved to be banned from the country
for ten years because he was trying to get to much power. I think Santa Anna had a pretty unique
life because he was president of Mexico, he was governor of Vera Cruz, and was high ranked in
the military. I think Santa Anna did some weird things because he had set up a ceremony to find
his lost leg and had set it up on a monument for everyone to see it and admire it. I think it was
nice that his wife wanted to be buried with him before she died because that shows that his wife
really cared about him. I have learned many things about Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna as in what
he did and how he lived. He was one of the most famous Spanish people and I enjoyed learning
