CQRS and Event Sourcing, An Alternative Architecture for DDDDennis Doomen
Most of us will be familiar with the standard 3- or 4-layer architecture you often see in larger enterprise systems. Some are already practicing Domain Driven Design and work together with the business to clarify the domain concepts. Perhaps you’ve noticed that is difficult to get the intention of the 'verbs' from that domain into this standard architecture. If performance is an important requirement as well, then you might have discovered that an Object-Relational Mapper and a relational database are not always the best solution.
One of the main reasons for this is the fact that the interests of a consistent domain that takes into account the many business rules, and those of data reporting and presentation are conflicting. That’s why Betrand Meyer introduced the Command Query Separation principle.
An architecture based on this principle combined with the Event Sourcing concept provides the ideal architecture for building high-performance systems designed using DDD. Well-known bloggers like Udi Dahan and Greg Young have already spent quite a lot of of posts on this, and this year’s Developer Days had some coverage as well.
But how do you build such a system with the. NET framework? Is it really as complex as some claim, or is just different work?

Independent of the source of data, the integration of event streams into an Enterprise Architecture gets more and more important in the world of sensors, social media streams and Internet of Things. Events have to be accepted quickly and reliably, they have to be distributed and analysed, often with many consumers or systems interested in all or part of the events. Dependent on the size and quantity of such events, this can quickly be in the range of Big Data. How can we efficiently collect and transmit these events? How can we make sure that we can always report over historical events? How can these new events be integrated into traditional infrastructure and application landscape?
Starting with a product and technology neutral reference architecture, we will then present different solutions using Open Source frameworks.
I Love APIs 2015: Building Predictive Apps with Lamda and MicroServices Apigee | Google Cloud
I Love APIs 2015
Machine learning, big data, and API technologies have drastically reduced the complexity of building predictive apps. But all these advances also mean that these apps require a new approach to system architecture. This talk discusses the lamda architecture and microservices, and best practices on decomposing your app into batch, near-realtime, an real-time services. Learn how Apigee uses both new architectures to implement predictive apps using Hadoop, Node.js, Cassandra, and ElasticSearch.
Giving MongoDB a Way to Play with the GIS CommunityMongoDB
The Geographic Information System (GIS), industry is booming, especially with the continued reliance on online maps and the rise of location-aware mobile devices. GIS tech can be one of the key players in the mobile internet, big data, and the internet of things, and is an essential tool for the next generation of the global IT industry.
Yet, the GIS community is not prepared. With all the data available, GIS experts lack an off-the-shelf solutions to manage the growing volume of spatial data. Relational spatial databases (RSDB) were the leader in this field for decades, but RSDBs have failed to innovate to handle massive volumes of data coming in at high velocity.
Fortunately, MongoDB a useful tool for this challenge, but needs some tooling to create a connector to the GIS tech ecosystem. In order to bridge the gap, we built a pipeline to comply with the architecture of the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL), so that MongoDB can work with most of popular GIS tools such as OpenLayers, Mapserver, GeoServer, QGIS, ArcGIS and others with ease. In this talk, I'll go through this pipeline tool and showcase some examples of how you can use this in your next application.

Webcast: API-Centric Architecture for Building Context-Aware AppsApigee | Google Cloud
Context-aware apps - apps that know who you are, where you are, and what you've done - have been all the rage the last few years. Facebook's news feeds, Google Now, and Amazon Recommendations are examples of context-aware applications.
Over the last few years, advancements in machine learning, big data, NoSQL, and API technologies has drastically reduced the complexity of building such apps, but requires a brand new approach system architecture.
This presentation covers:
Lambda architecture and Microservices - two new architectural styles to build contextual apps at scale
How companies like Twitter and Netflix have implemented lambda architecture and microservices for recommendations, targeting, and more
How Apigee uses both new architectures to implement predictive analytics through Insights (our big data predictive analytics product)

Talking to 25% of the web - In-depth report and analysis on the WordPress RES...Stephane Beladaci
WordPress seems to finally evolve from a bloated platform serving web pages into a modern development solution, API first, with a multi-tiered architecture capable of supporting cross-platform / multiscreen application development.
All of the above without becoming a giant hack, which should read a giant mess no matter how cool that sounds to the new-gen developers "a la Facebook". Maybe WordPress will lead the developers community to a "next-gen" era where professional won't be so "new".
This document was originally published by experience development agency "Human-Made", and authored by its co-founders Tom Willmot, CEO, and Joe Hoyle, CTO and a member of the WordPress REST API development team.

Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Representational State Transfer (REST) are two answers to the same question: how to access Web services. The choice initially may seem easy, but at times it can be surprisingly difficult. SOAP is a standards-based Web services access protocol that has been around for a while and enjoys all of the benefits of long-term use. Originally developed by Microsoft, SOAP really isnt as simple as the acronym would suggest. The Difference between SOAP vs REST APIs REST is the newcomer to the block. It seeks to fix the problems with SOAP and provide a truly simple method of accessing Web services. Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
