POST ONE
Money makes the world go round. For some countries that are
in the development stages or going through instability like
major natural disasters and armed conflict, money becomes
tight. Funds can come in from many sources with certain
stipulations like predatory lending. Enter the IMF and the
World Bank set up by member nations to help provide economic
assistance. The two organizations seem to act and function
similarly at times causing confusion.
The IMF's function helps to support and keep the
international monetary system in check as one of its primary
roles. This means the analysis of world currencies to ensure
they remain balanced to ensure countries and their population
can continue business (IMF). As exchange rates fluctuate and
constantly change, countries need to understand the true value
of their currency. The weight a countries currency holds to the
dollar can either be overvalued or undervalued. Overvaluing
currency will cause an increase in imports and may cause a
decrease in exports sending more money out then bringing it in
causing sectors relying on exports to dry up (Driscoll). Along
with supporting the international exchange the IMF also
provides support through lending and practical support
The World Bank provides the funds to developing countries
battling poverty and rising costs. Working much like a regular
bank the World Bank institutions provide low interest loans,
credit, and special grants to help facilitate a countries public
and private sectors encouraging growth (World Bank). The
World Bank provides analysis and expert advice and assistance
to countries banking systems to eliminate shortfalls and expand
earnings to support the local populace. Following the Korean
War, Republic of Korea was given grants and loans to help
rebuild and bolster the national infrastructure to become one of
the top economies in present day. Along with Korea and Japan
other countries have taken advantage of funding to go from
needing assistance to providing assistance.

POST TWO
Even though IMF and World Bank perceived to be the similar
organizations their missions are quite different. IMF is the
central institution of the international monetary system.
International monetary system is the backbone for the
international payments and national currencies, which allows
countries to conduct economic transactions with each other. The
International Monetary Fund provides loans to the member
states experiencing payments problems. This assistance not only
temporarily relieves issues but also supports stabilization and
reform policies aimed at fixing the underlying problems. IMF
usually requires countries that need loans to conduct reforms
and correct imbalances in the economy such as interest rate and
productivity forecasts. The IMF had clashed in 1977 to 1980
with Jamaican government over type of reforms need to be
implemented. IMF wanted a development strategy that would
integrate Jamaica into world economy and maintain the
openness. However, Jamaica’s government sought to have a
leading role for the state and reduction in openness.
World Bank is an international financial institution
established to organize the financial and technical assistance to
the developing countries. In the course of its development, the
World Bank has undergone various structural changes. The
World Bank is associated with the International bank of
Reconstruction and Development, which carried out financial
support in rebuilding Western Europe after WWII. Currently,
the World Bank has focused its activities in accordance with
Millennium Declaration Goals (MDG). The World Bank and its
institutions such as IBDR help to solve global problems of
human development by issuing loans to developing countries.
Usually interest rates correspond to the market level in these
countries. World Bank has many projects around the globe. For
example, it has development project to improve the Tajikistan’s
government capacity to provide for poor, manage and monitor
social assistance.

POST THREE
The International Monetary Fund is the overseer of its 182
member countries’ money and exchange rate policies and a
guardian of the code of conduct. The IMF is also responsible for
communicating to all its members how domestic policies from
other countries may affect other populations. They provide
short-term financing to countries in need of short-notice loan of
foreign monies to keep their currency stable. The IMF promotes
exchange stability and orderly exchange relations to its member
countries. Events that the IMF most recently participated in are:
An IMF visit to Serbia, where officials visited Belgrade from
mid-August until September 2, 2015, to loan Serbia additional
funds if needed to stabilize the country’s economy. Over the
last year, Serbia’s economic growth has shown positive signs of
growth, and the government is working toward keeping
expenditures within budget constraints and maintaining Serbia’s
strong economy.
Secondly, in opening remarks made by the Deputy Managing
Director of the IMF, Min Zhu, September 2, 2015, at the
Caribbean Forum, the partnership between the IMF and
countries in the region, are essential for advancing together.
Discussions took place between the IMF and key regional
players about the impending rise in U.S. interest rates, the
slowdown in China and South America, and the opening of Cuba
to the U.S. Officials also discussed natural disaster risks to the
exposed region and Zhu reiterated the IMF’s mission of
“standing ready to provide emergency financial assistance” in
cases like Tropical Storm Erika.
Similar, but with vastly different missions, the World Bank
exists to promote economies and social progress in developing
countries by helping the people raise productivity so they can
live better lives. The World Bank lends money to very poor
countries by investing in projects that directly help the
community, such as: agriculture, rural and urban development,
and small business. The World Bank helps with setting up and
maintaining basic necessities such as potable water, medical
care, education, nutrition, and housing. Unlike the IMF, the
Bank provides long-term financing through its programs and
projects. It encourages entrepreneurship through its partner, the
International Finance Corporation (IFC).
One of the many measurable results from The World Bank is a
project that’s increased the income of more than 2 million
Kenyans since 2007. A dairy industry that pays nearly double
what a sugar cane and maize farming project would normally
yield, is empowering Kenyans and helping them develop
poverty-fighting projects in their communities. To date, more
than 500 development projects have been financed through a
dairy cooperative, named Kokonya.
Another example of the World Bank’s results can be found in
Colombia. The Bogota Urban Services Project helped expand
and modernize Bogota’s water supply and sanitation networks.
The result increased access, coverage, quality, and interagency
coordination in water, sanitation, transportation, and other
related basic services. This led to a 25 percent decrease in
travel time for Colombians – both professionally and
personally.
Simply put, the IMF handles payments and receipts from the
member countries and borrowers, while the World Bank
develops institutions in those extremely poor countries.

This means the analysis of world currencies to ensure they remain balanced to ensure countries and their population can continue business (IMF). As exchange rates fluctuate and constantly change, countries need to understand the true value of their currency. The weight a countries currency holds to the dollar can either be overvalued or undervalued. Overvaluing currency will cause an increase in imports and may cause a decrease in exports sending more money out then bringing it in causing sectors relying on exports to dry up (Driscoll). Along with supporting the international exchange the IMF also provides support through lending and practical support The World Bank provides the funds to developing countries battling poverty and rising costs. Working much like a regular bank the World Bank institutions provide low interest loans, credit, and special grants to help facilitate a countries public and private sectors encouraging growth (World Bank). Following the Korean War, Republic of Korea was given grants and loans to help rebuild and bolster the national infrastructure to become one of the top economies in present day. Along with Korea and Japan other countries have taken advantage of funding to go from needing assistance to providing assistance. 1. "About the IMF." IMF. IMF is the central institution of the international monetary system. International monetary system is the backbone for the international payments and national currencies, which allows countries to conduct economic transactions with each other. The International Monetary Fund provides loans to the member states experiencing payments problems. This assistance not only temporarily relieves issues but also supports stabilization and reform policies aimed at fixing the underlying problems. IMF usually requires countries that need loans to conduct reforms and correct imbalances in the economy such as interest rate and productivity forecasts. The IMF had clashed in 1977 to 1980 with Jamaican government over type of reforms need to be implemented. IMF wanted a development strategy that would integrate Jamaica into world economy and maintain the openness. However, Jamaica’s government sought to have a leading role for the state and reduction in openness. World Bank is an international financial institution

The World Bank is associated with the International bank of Reconstruction and Development, which carried out financial support in rebuilding Western Europe after WWII. Currently, the World Bank has focused its activities in accordance with Millennium Declaration Goals (MDG). The World Bank and its institutions such as IBDR help to solve global problems of human development by issuing loans to developing countries. Usually interest rates correspond to the market level in these countries. World Bank has many projects around the globe. For example, it has development project to improve the Tajikistan’s government capacity to provide for poor, manage and monitor social assistance. Latin American Perspectives, Vol. 11, No. 3, Destabilization and Intervention in the Caribbean (Summer, 1984), pp. 53-82, http://www.jstor.org/stable/2633290 Accessed: 03-09-2015 http://www.worldbank.org/projects/P122039/social-safety-net- strengthening-project?lang=en POST THREE The International Monetary Fund is the overseer of its 182 member countries’ money and exchange rate policies and a guardian of the code of conduct. The IMF is also responsible for communicating to all its members how domestic policies from other countries may affect other populations. They provide short-term financing to countries in need of short-notice loan of foreign monies to keep their currency stable. The IMF promotes exchange stability and orderly exchange relations to its member countries. Events that the IMF most recently participated in are: An IMF visit to Serbia, where officials visited Belgrade from mid-August until September 2, 2015, to loan Serbia additional

Over the last year, Serbia’s economic growth has shown positive signs of growth, and the government is working toward keeping expenditures within budget constraints and maintaining Serbia’s strong economy. Secondly, in opening remarks made by the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, Min Zhu, September 2, 2015, at the Caribbean Forum, the partnership between the IMF and countries in the region, are essential for advancing together. Discussions took place between the IMF and key regional players about the impending rise in U.S. interest rates, the slowdown in China and South America, and the opening of Cuba to the U.S. Officials also discussed natural disaster risks to the exposed region and Zhu reiterated the IMF’s mission of “standing ready to provide emergency financial assistance” in cases like Tropical Storm Erika. Similar, but with vastly different missions, the World Bank exists to promote economies and social progress in developing countries by helping the people raise productivity so they can live better lives. The World Bank lends money to very poor countries by investing in projects that directly help the community, such as: agriculture, rural and urban development, and small business. The World Bank helps with setting up and maintaining basic necessities such as potable water, medical care, education, nutrition, and housing. Unlike the IMF, the Bank provides long-term financing through its programs and projects. It encourages entrepreneurship through its partner, the International Finance Corporation (IFC). One of the many measurable results from The World Bank is a project that’s increased the income of more than 2 million Kenyans since 2007. A dairy industry that pays nearly double what a sugar cane and maize farming project would normally yield, is empowering Kenyans and helping them develop poverty-fighting projects in their communities. To date, more than 500 development projects have been financed through a dairy cooperative, named Kokonya.
  • 5. Another example of the World Bank’s results can be found in Colombia. The Bogota Urban Services Project helped expand and modernize Bogota’s water supply and sanitation networks. The result increased access, coverage, quality, and interagency coordination in water, sanitation, transportation, and other related basic services. This led to a 25 percent decrease in travel time for Colombians – both professionally and personally. Simply put, the IMF handles payments and receipts from the member countries and borrowers, while the World Bank develops institutions in those extremely poor countries. References: n/a.
