1. Respiratory system
•Most of living things absorb O2. Carbon and
Hydrogen provided by foodstuffs and through
oxidation of foodstuffs produced heat and energy.
•The purpose of respiration is to take O2 and
remove CO2. When O2 is taken into the body, it is
carried in the blood stream to the various tissues.
Where it is exchanged for CO2 which then returns
in the blood stream.
.
2. Respiratory system
•The respiratory system means getting O2 into the
body and out CO2 from the body.
•The purpose of respiration is to take O2 and
remove CO2. When O2 is taken into the body, it is
carried in the blood stream to the various tissues.

4. Respiratory system
•When an animal is breathing normally, it usually
exchange only a part of the air which can hold in
the lung this amount of air known as tidal air.
•If the deeper breath is taken the additional air is
called complementalal air
•When additional air contain at the out side of the
lung is called supplemental air
•The supplemental air and complemental air
together is called vital capacity
5. Speed of Breathing
•Generally larger animal breath more slowly than
the small animal.
•Horse-----8-12/minutes
•Cow
12-16/minutes
•Pig
10-16/minutes
•Sheep
12-20/minutes
•Dog
15-30/minutes
•The rate speed of breathing is faster during rapid
exercise,
6. Control of breathing
•Breathing id controlled automatically by two
means, nervous and chemical
•i). Nervous control: This consists of sensory
nerves which completely control from the brain
•ii). Chemical control: This is determined by the
levels of O2 and CO2 in the blood. When O2 level
gets too low or CO2 too high the breathing of
animal become too high
