ENLIVENING IDEA
he project is of MR. Anurag Goyal and of L2shape. The axis is South east2North west. The
size of the plot is 17326.66sq.ft and situated in North east direction of Civil Lines locality
Ajmer city, Rajasthan. The building orientation is South west2North east. The Project is based
on space within a space and the main aim is to provide proper day lighting to enter into the home
with a beautiful view of landscape outside. It includes various parameters of building design like
the green home aspect, building envelope, ventilation along with effective use of climatology. The
climate of Rajasthan is hot &dry and the temperature in summer is hot and in winter it is too cold.
In the project the main aspect kept in mind was that an interior designer is not only designing
interiors but he has to pay attention to the structure that is plan of the house and then leading to
the design aspect. By this method interior designer helps in creating better spaces as per the need
as the location of doors2windows are placed better, ventilation etc. Are all well set. We used visual
skills in the design to analyze the design better. This project deals with various layout like
structural i.e. construction drawing. For example 2 Beams & Pillars, Ceiling, Cut section, Elevation,
Orthographic projections and in design working drawing. For example2 Furniture, False Ceiling
based on anthropometric and ergonomics as per the client budget.
T
CASE STUDY

INSERTION
Interior Design Industry
Interior Design Industry is growing day by day. A house is a place where a person behaves in its
natural form & is mainly for providing shelter since prehistoric time human being lives in shelter.
Example 2The canvas or meticulously planned towns of Mohenjo2Daro, Harappa. To the present
day houses which have grown up more luxurious & beautiful. For a man’s house is his castle , Sir
Edward Coke this sentence was point by him in the 17th
century & since then, we have a beautiful
heritage of something known as period house starting from the beginning with the Tudor &
Jacobean style (148521625). This period lead towards development of sophisticated structure &
classicized decoration, this period saw the development of the increased specialization of how a
room functioned, with in a house. In the middle ages the king would lived in one big room. Where
he would eat, sleep & conduct affairs of the state.
Fabric hangings during this time are considered inappropriate for rooms in which people ate as
they tended to retain the smell of food. During this time timber, brick & stone were used. The
Stone has less decorative than the timber ones, as stones were expensive & more difficult to
carve. During this period the bay window came into existence along with oriels windows, at the
same time cantilever projections came into existence for making structures. The furniture type
during this period was more towards built in furniture. After the Tudor & Jacobean period Baroque
period (162521714) came into existence. This period had a development of Courtly Style. This
style had the development of room as basement, the piano nubile (main reception floor) & the attic
(top floor). The piano nubile had pediment windows & very high ceilings it was the main area,
where the ceremonial work were taken up, this period had grand carved entrances with the use of
acanthus leaves & bulging fruits. This time period has the designs created by famous artist
Michael Angelo. This period was followed by the early Georgian, Colonial, British, Victorian,
Edwardian, Art Novae. The modern movement (192021950) played an important role in design
industry, with the designer like Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier, Louis Khan and Frank Lloyd Wright.
There contribution lead to meticulously design houses with proper planning & considerations to
functionally with well developed clean uncluttered spaces, electrical wirings buried in the structure
along with proper plumbing & water disposal. Metal windows with large glass panels, hygienic &
efficient homes were developed. Sulliwal’s disciple Frank Lloyd Wright (186721959) designed
buildings which rely more on spaces & form. This kind of design made a great impression on
Walter Gropius (188321969), Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe (188621969). They define the doctrine of
modernism in the 1920’s. Louis khan came with the idea of design development of interior spaces
focusing more on served & servant spaces. He believed that served areas should be placed near
the servant areas, so that the functionality of human space increases. Example 2The living room
having served areas as kitchen & toilet. This concept of his has been popular till today. After the
World War II in 1941 rational planning & economy were combined with high standard of
mechanical services. In housing project where the designer were more concern how a building
prefer more than whether it look modern? The modern movement sort to eliminate extra detailing
& focused more simplicity with advancement of prefabricated materials like plywood, glass & other
materials developed during this time period. Designs were developed when more of fresh air &
maximum sunlight were pre2requisite one of the best characteristics which developed in the first
phase of modernism. The elimination of patterns & texture on wall people used smooth plaster,
glass brick room divider in the apartment with open plan layout, all this required a development of
well educated work force, which could support the interior design industry & this lead to the
development from the India government to take interest in design field. The Indian government
has formulated a body known as Indian design council which plays an important role in promoting
design development. The government of India setup the Indian design council at IIT Mumbai in
year 1969 for initiating the post graduate programme in industrial design, but prior to setting
industrial design education the development of art & design in India developed in year 1840. The
first art school known as the Bombay Art School (1857) now known as Sir J.J. School Of Arts, The
College of Arts Calcutta, cater To the Indian Design Development in the year 1913 “kala Bawan”
the art college was set up as part of Shanti Niketan by the Tagore family. Not only this in the year
1922 Ravindra Nath Tagore met Walter Gropius & invited him for an exhibition to India. In 1958,
the government of India invited Charles & Ray Eames to train the small industries to develop the
craft & small scale industry. This resulted in the development of Indian design report. In the year
1960, based on this report of Charles & Ray Eames, the government of India setup the National
Institute of Design (NID) Ahmadabad 1987 the ministry of textile setup the National Institute of
Fashion Technology in Delhi (NIFT). In the year 1997, the full fledge department of design with
Bachelors in design, Masters in design & the Doctoral Degrees came up at IIt Mumbai. From the
year 1999, the private design schools along with the state universities started developing student
with formal design educations. This was incorporated, so that the design industry could be
supplemented, with more brains in the design field.
Today many of the interior design companies has entered the Indian market, providing specialize
designs. For Example2 Kohler, Duravit, Hacker, etc. These companies are developing solutions
for customers whom are attractive & easy to install but these solutions provided by these
companies are not tailor made. To make the design as per the Indian client, the interior designer
has to study the Indian environment, climate, the client, his need, budget & then device a design,
which is customer friendly, at the same time functional, as per the Indian needs. This project report
showcases my idea of design as per the Indian client’s requirements in the section of residential
design category.

ity and levelling. Due to this we
need to increase the plinth area of the house. The
house has a floor plane which is tough &
smooth for hygienic living and can be made up of
bricks, flag sand stone, tiled, cement concrete,
terrazzo, marble, rubble etc. The floor plane has
adjoining wall areas make of bricks & stones. The
stone are considered better for construction and can
be utilized as rubble or ashlars masonry. Stone
wall are considered good for Rajasthan as thick wall
help to keep the Interiors cool. The brick walls are
better option for making green homes they can
be taken as cladding and for the face work with the
different bonds like English bond, Flemish bond and
with pointing between them like struck, v2shape etc.
Brick is consider good for construction as it is a
part of a sustainable design and absorb less heat.
There are special made bricks and adobe bricks
through which the houses can be made. These
days fly ash bricks which are far better for the
environment. Fly ash bricks & concrete blocks are used for construction. Cavity walls are better
option for making wall. Having a gap of 20230mm this gap is usually filled with bad conductor like
thermal insulation so that the heat outside the building is not able to enter inside the house. We
even check the soil and the requisite treatment for termite, damp proofing is done proper
foundation for the building. The beams & pillars, column, cantilever beams & construction details
of the distances between them our studies on the shape & shape of structure of residential design.
For a effective design to be developed one must see to the feeling to be generated inside the
structure & this is mainly achieved by
creating cheerful interior which is full of joy
& happiness. To achieve this area I
focused my attention towards day lighting
& placement of windows & doors. Proper
entrance of sunlight into a room generates
happiness and placement of doors &
windows with ventilations creates a better
air circulation. The house is not situated in
isolation. It is located on plot and the plot
is situated on the land & the land is
subjected by the seasons & the sun rays,
at the same time the climate where the
land is situated matters a lot in the design
development. This study is calling the
climatology of the place. I have done the
in2depth studies for my client focusing on
the micro & macro climate and the
orientation and the sun rays entering into
the buildings after considering the above
points along with the planning methodology derived by Louis khan.
POINTING
I followed the method of space planning criteria like2 centralized; linear, radial, clustered & grid
have been followed in the planning phase.
The detailed dealing can be seen in my
project report in the subsequent pages.
After the consideration of above mentioned
points. I devise a structure with the various
layouts. For an Interior Design to be
successfully the structure of the house with
proper building envelope based on
climatology of the place, day lighting etc
should be taken consideration before &
incitation of the Interior Design. For doing
the Interior Design I pay proper
consideration to colour scheme, elements
& principle of design, texture, materials
applications. But to start up with I choose a
style & concept based on the concept &
style the material were selected and they
can be seen in my design project where I have utilized various orthographic projections to express
my design. For visual application I have used ‘AutoCAD, Photoshop & 3Ds Max’.
In this project report I have carefully handle many smaller details to make an effective plan of the
residential space. My major focus is on space planning to generate more of space in a small
space or a large space. Paying attention of the behaviour of human beings you can have a
detailed report of the residential design designed by me in the subsequent pages.
TERMITES TREATMENT
PLANNING CONSIDERATION
To design any residential area proper planning & brain storming needs to be done the planning
phase of the residence is the most important phase because this leads to the development of the
structure of the houses based on the shape & form chosen, the residential design should be
planned based on the needs of the person. The design has to be functional so that the person can
feel the space, express him & at the same time enjoy the space.
Sanghavi’s house is a culmination of unfettered creativity and the opulent taste of the house
owners. The house is surrounded by lush green landscape garden.
When the designer designs the buildings all buildings exert their direct & indirect influence on the
people who use the building as well as the ones who see the building from outside.
Keeping into mind the above parameters the location of the site of sanghavi’s is situated in North
east direction of Civil Lines locality Ajmer city, surrounded by Aravali hills and it is a district of
Rajasthan. The size of plot is 17326.66sq.ft. The plot is of regular shape and if we see on the land
no contours is there. The site had the constructed a house on its which has demolished and the
other building materials spread on the land due to which fertile soil has to be used if landscaping is
given importance. I believe the landscaping
design enhance the efficiency of the project.
The location of the site as per the Google map
and the photograph of the land can be seen in
the next page the site that has been assigned for
the designing.
CLIMATOLOGY
Climate of Ajmer (macro climate):2 Ajmer
weather is a typical desert type. In the summer
time the climate of Ajmer is very hot and in
winter it is quite cool. Both in summer as well as
winter, there is a wide difference in the day and
night temperature.
In Summer: 2 45.
c (maximum)225.
c (minimum)
In Winter: 2 18.
c (maximum)24.
c (minimum)
Rainy Season: 2 July to mid September and
very humid (up to 90%)
Microclimate is one which changes day by day. As I read in the micro climate we can change
the climate too by our design. Every designer has the capability to change the micro climate by his
design parameter.
Designer design accordingly to the look that they want to take in their design. So that work and
living can be done in effective and efficient way.
Orientation of the Site
The axis of my building is South East2 North West. The building orientation is South West2North
East Ajmer lies in hot and arid zone. Orientation of building in the zone require exclusion of
summer sun during day time, maximum exposure to sun during winter and adequate provision of
air change and comfort ventilation during monsoon. Provision of ceiling fans is necessary.
ACCORDING TO INDIA CLIMATE ACCORDING TO AJMER CLIMATE
Building Envelope
The site has good sun light and the site is flanked on South
West by a lane, in North West it has residential building and in
North East there is an institutional building. Privacy part along
with complete day lighting, emphasis on green house
development as this site is located in hot & arid zone has been
given due consideration.

Leader
A person with leader quality attracts people to follow. The space with the leading character gathers
space that relates to it and forms a group. Example 2 relation between principle office, manager’s
office, waiting area, ATM area, personal banking area, living room.

Grouping
People gather for certain purpose, same objective, interest or goal. Copying the same the spaces
that carry the same grouping character gather as a group
There should be shortening up distance between rooms.
In grouping the rooms should be on the same floor.
Watcher2dining area, balconies.
Loner
This character affects the space distance from groups from a person who prefer more privacy and
avoids social conversations and stays away from the crowd.
In a residential project some clients may prefer more privacy for their master bedroom. In this case
the loner can keep a distance away from certain spaces – living room, dining room or even other
bedrooms.
Servant
A space that serves other spaces in some way that needs to adjacent to them but prefers not to
appeal usually which is in reality. Servant needs to be near to the master while staying out of sight.
Example 2 a rest room plays a servant character in many projects. People need at times rest
rooms but prefer to be out of sight.
Watcher
This character causes a space to locate inside the boundary of the
project for attractions in the environment.
It is based on human nature that people like to watch or be close to
certain incidence. The attraction can be like different environmental
condition view such as parks, lake, parking area.
This character is useful for many spaces like a waiting space, café
coffee day, dining space and manager office.
Out reaching
The space with this character locates near the entrance or corridor for
many activities that relate to out reaching. This type of space represents
an outgoing or a sociable behaviour like human that can represent a
welcome space or gathering space for a building a living room for a
residential building, a lobby for office building, a waiting area for bank.
Worker
A space that offers supplies to other spaces it is not necessary for
the space with this character to be adjacent to other spaces, but it
needs to be near second entrance or service entrance. The
difference between servant and worker is that the servant does
not need to be adjacent to any entrance a service area usually
have a worker character in several buildings.

Gestalt principle of perception
Gestalt psychology is a theory of brain and mind of the Berlin school. It believes that brain
is holistic parallel with self organizing tendency.
It believes that human eyes sees object in their entirely before perceiving their individual
past.
Gestalt psychologist says that perception is the product of complex interaction of various
stimuli.
Gestalt effect with respect to reorganization of figure is for whole form instead of collection
of simple lines and curves.
The use of phrase the whole is greater than same of its part.
The concept of gestalt was first introduced in contemporary philosophy and psychology by
Christian Von Ehrenfels. The idea of gestalt has its roots in the theories by David Hume, Johann
Wolfgang von Goethe, Immanuel Kant, David Hartley, E2Ernest mach. It was device in the 20th
century further by the other theorist this principle beginning by the theorist in the year 1886.
The gestalt principle goes into the form of grouping of similar or proximate object at the same time
goes into the research of behaviour thinking and problem solving.
PRINCIPLES OF GESTALT
The gestalt law of grouping
Law of proximity
Law of similarity
Law of closure
Law of symmetry
Law of common faith
Law of continuity
Law of good gestalt
Law of past experience
LANDSCAPING
Foundation plant
Like corner plants foundation plants help anchor the
house to the ground.
The foundation plant directs the eye of a viewer to
the entrance.
Generally taller plants are placed at the corner with
the height of plant descending towards the entrance.
Entrance planting
The plants used like entry way, drive way, or garden way or entry of house. Here the plant
grouping should be used in a same way to invite the viewer to the designated place to the entry.
Borders
Grouping of plants used to define a space in the yard or divide a space are called borders.
While placing borders they should be tall, leave spaces between borders to avoid monotony.
Screens
Are grouping of plants to hide or cover unwanted
views of the area.
Height26’.
Evergreen plants should be used for screening.
Deciduous plants.
Whenever planting plants have the bed either
straight or gradually covering .It helps in maintain
easily and directs the eyes.
Specimen plant
Centre of attention plant.
It should be used sparingly as they dominate
landscape.
Accent plant is also like a specimen plant but a little sub tile.
PLANTS AS ARCHITECTURE
The plants with respect to architecture can perform two roads .They can compliment and
reinforce the existing architecture of the house or structure and they can create outdoor
rooms.
Trees, shrubs and ground covers can be used to emphasis the desirable architecture lines
and masses of the house.
Plants can be used to balance harsh
and awkward architectural angles, masses
and materials before actually installing
plants. The designer needs to plan the
location by assessing the desirable and
undesirable qualities of house.
We can use plants to frame
desirable views of the house. The best
views are not from straight on. The views
to the entrance or windows are more
interesting from an angle as one approach
from a drive or walkway.
The best part of the house can be to
see through selective framing.
Relationship between landscaping and interior
Landscaping is about enhancing the look of the area around your house.
Landscaping add to the beauty of the space along with good interiors put together.
East2The deciduous trees and shrubs shade the east wall and windows in summer allowing
the sun through in winter.
West2Trees and shrubs to shade west walls and windows.
North2Use ground cover in front of north facing windows, avoid paving (hard2scape).Plant
deciduous trees and wines to the north. Never plant evergreen trees in the north.
South2dense planting as wind breakers to the south and south west. South facing courtyard
should be plants with firms, use climbers or pergolas to shade walls and pavings.
Use low growing shrubs, ground cover or grass to absorb glare.
Avoid large areas of paving near the home to reduce reflected glare. Shade large areas of
paving with trees and pergolas.
Wind breaks are most effective when they are located at 90 at the direction of the wind.
A vertical summered permeable wind break with 50 to 60 densities is generally more
effective than a solid one such as a wall.
Elements of design principle
We don’t use plants with core
texture.
Fine texture.
If garden is big then take big, short
and too short leaf plants.
Texture
Associated with sense of touch and
sight. In addition to being rough or
soft texture also describes how one
sees a visual difference.
Rough texture minimizes difference.
Plants appear closer and the space
feels smaller and close.
Coarse texture plants are more dominant and tend to dominate the color and form.
A fine texture plants have thin leaves, thin stems and they leave a stronger form. They
create a solid hedge.
Spreading,
Sprawling2lush green grass,
Short spikes2asparagus,
Matt2Australian grass,
Arch2bougnvillia,
Upright2Ashok tree,
Spiky,
Cascading,
Irregular2ferns.
By keeping into mind these certain points we do the planning part.
After seeing the site location above parameters I analyze2
The soil at site it has not good value of bearing capacity.
Water table of ground at the site is not very high.
The site is situated in a develops area which is having facilities like in North East direction
there is an educational building nearby Ajmer hospital, Bus stand, Hotel RTDC and utility
service like water supply, drainage, and sanitation gas supply, Electricity.
The site is located away from Quarries kilns, industrial plant/buildings, emitting smoke,
steam fumes of obnoxious odor, noise or other similar environmental pollutants

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
The main objectives of planning a building are to ensure that the
different components of a building are so arranged that the
occupants can perform desired function with ease and comfort.
Good planning also requires that the entire area available within the building is gainfully utilized,
with minimum area allocated to circulation. The good planning incorporates features like
sustainability of design linking with green homes if we pay attention to these parameters at the
inception stage of the project. We will be contributing towards a better earth and surroundings. For
this we have to keep in mind “Sustainable Development”. It is a development that meets the needs
of present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs.
For development to be sustainable it must take account of
social and ecological factors as well as economic ones of
the living and non living resources base and of the long term
as well as the short term advantages of alternative actions.
Proper land use is one of the most effective ways to
conserve ecosystem. Due to increase population land are
scarce so the prices of land are accelerating day by day. So
people cannot afford large piece of land due to high prices
so they are making small houses and they wanted more
productive. They want their surrounding neat so they need to
use of concrete & cement to make
the outside area solid due to small piece of land people want to utilize the land
as much as they can and they did not pay attention towards green homes.
This term out bad inter look run one drawback is the outside area as it is made
up of hard escape using cement it absorb more heat of the sun which radiates
into the environment in summer. Then the building external wall becomes heated finally the inside
of the house get heated. The glass also takes the heat immediately and worms the interior
because of this people are bringing about another global2scale change in the atmosphere i.e.
global warming. Global warming will have different effects in different regions. A warmed world is
expected to have more extreme weather and in this situation if we use more hard area the
problem which we across through a problem that it emits more radiations and glare during day
time especially in summer.
To relieve themselves from the heat people most
of the time use Coolers & Ac and they use more
of electricity to cool them and the same happens
in winters it becomes very cold and people use
gadgets like hot air blowers, heaters etc. to warm
them. This again needs electricity we are in turn to
using the non2renewable sources of energy the
electricity too much leading to wastage of it.
We can achieve sustainable development by
adoption of efficient and eco2friendly technologies.
Use of more day lighting into the home with
proper ventilation and using
DAY LIGHTING
good type of glass on the window so that they reduce the usage of
electricity and all external wall are constructed so that it reduce glare and
cool the internal climate.
Not only this in the rainy season the situation is more bad the water from the
terrace and ground area all wash off through the drains to the outside drain
and if we pay attention to all the houses as they are all properly cemented
and concreted the water from the ground is completely lost into the drains
and become unutilized we did not contribute to the underground water table which in turn leads to
shortage of portable water i.e. drinking water.
Many people all over the world knowingly or in knowingly cause the degradation of natural
resources which has an adverse effect on the environment. This problem is not only restricted to
one region. Rather it has become a global issue. Improper management of waste leads to several
environment problems, health hazards to human beings, fresh water, marine etc.
A number of measures need to be
taken from the better management
of the water resources are2
Encouragement to and
improvement in traditional methods
of rain water harvesting and
storage.
Water conservation
measures in landscape and
garden such as using drip
irrigation.
Strict measures for
prevention due to toxic chemical in
water bodies.
While designing resident we have
to keep in mind the appropriate
type of material used in the
buildings so that it maintain cost is less, durability of the material is long, weather resistant, easily
available in the local market all the material which is used in the building using according to their
characteristics and property so that it life become longer.
By considering above sustainable parameters we can design our residential project in better and
efficient way.
HOW TO PLAN
The residential design should be planned based on the needs of the person. It has been seen all
human beings requirements & needs to a certain extent are similar, when we see magazines &
books showcasing beautiful images of decorative room people feels happy to see them but Interior
Designing is not so easy, like the attractive image of the book. The design has to be functional so
that the person can feel the space, express him & at the same time enjoy the space. It is also seen
if the number of occupants in our home is less & the space planned in the design is more, at the
same time if the space is planned in such a manner which is activity based & the areas are well
lighted up, more compact and gives a feeling of small space, a person appears more cheerful.
In India we have a climate which is hot & dry throughout the year & the sun shines brilliantly the
whole year, with the winter months being less. It is in this surrounding climate, that residences of a
person will exits. To device a proper Interior Design must see outside building envelope along with
the interior space so that we can achieve the client requirement. I have here utilized more of day
lighting factor while planning. As I said earlier in India the climate is dry & humid throughout the
year & the house is enveloped by this factor so my main consideration has been focusing on
climatology & the building envelope. Apart from this consideration, proper ventilations & at the
same time, approaches to the building entrances, orientation of the plot, along with the building
corners, the floor levels & windows placement. The placement of windows & door were carried out
based on day lighting concept & Gestalt principle of designing.
The building plan is L2shape and building orientation is South West2North East. The axis is South
East2North West. I have segregated my space in served & servant, loner & watcher areas
according to the principles of Louis Kahn.
Planning of space2
!
The main entrance is from the South East side. The first entry leads to ‘Atrium’ and all the rooms
are arranged around centrally placed Atrium. All the external walls are constructed with brick,
cement mortar and thermal insulation materials i.e. cavity wall is constructed so that it reduce
glare and cools the internal climate.
Large openings are provided to get essential ventilation and large openings are on South West
direction. We used with low2e2emissivity glass so that proper sun light enters into the area and this
type of glass has a capacity to reflects sun rays and it minimize the heatsolar radiation and on
South East direction no direct sun rays is there. Only slant rays enter into the building and only
early morning sun rays enters into the building directly from South East direction. These early
morning sun rays do not have much glare into it. Trees in particular effectively shade and reduce
heat gain. They increase humidity level they also cause velocity difference thereby increasing and
decreasing air speed flow in that direction. Accordingly to the plot from South direction direct sun
rays come into the buildings so we use trees, plants & shrubs on that direction more. In front of the
entrance there is stairs which leads to the upper floor i.e. on North West direction of the building
and after stairs there is to be a secondary entrance which leads to a washing area.
The centrally placed Atrium admits the light inside the building. The building has two external
entry i.e. main entrances. Open space have to be seen in conjunction with the built form. They
allow for free air circulation and increased heat loss or gain “The question is how should they be
and how much should there be?” Atrium plays an important role to modify the micro climate. A
large one allows more of the natural climate of the place to prevail. If the atrium is large so it gains
more heat during the dy. If the ground is hard then much of radiation is reflected and absorbed by
the surrounding buildings. So the ground of atrium is to be soft and green so that then only less
heat radiation is reflected. So I made Atrium with Landscape lawn and have small water body
around the lawn. First floor is raised towards all the direction. The roof of the first floor is flat and
made up of R.C.C. with some asbestos sheetspowder coating on to it or with insulation material
covering laid by white glazed tile and on top floor we put Clare story window for proper ventilation.
Contemporary Style2
The plan forms its various features like windows, doors & furniture style etc. which were untied by
my style. The style which I adopted was “Contemporary” due to ‘less is more’ concept. The style
states various characteristics which give the plan & house the look of that style. This style evolved
from the ‘Modern Art/ International’ style of the 20th
century. Contemporary design is oriented
along a strong horizontal2vertical axis from architecture to furnishings. The structure of a space
becomes an integral design component on its own.
The plan which I devised followed these aspects of planning & combining various components
through the style opted. The shape of plan mostly focuses on lines & forms – two essentials of
good design. The whole layout are designed with abundant open space and natural light in
keeping into mind which makes them feel airy and expansive because there is not any clutter.
Everything in my design have square corners and balance the look with a few curves because of
their openness interior are especially well suited to large scale furnishing, art and accent gives a
flavour of Contemporary Style.
Common elements found in a contemporary style include
1. Color 2 The foundation is mostly neutral in shades of black, white, brown/beige, and gray.
The overall palette will be dressed up with pops of brighter colors in anything from red,
orange, brighter tones of yellowQbasically all colors that are considered bold.
2. Line and Space 2 Geometric, clean lines, high ceilings, very architectural in feeling. Open
spaces with high ceilings and large windows. Typically minimal or no window coverings are
common in a contemporary style.
3. Surfaces 2 Smooth and clean surfaces often in natural materials such as wood or stone.
Concrete is also common. Carpets and rugs are simple and soft under foot in natural
materials such as wool and jute.
4. Furniture2 Simple in line, texture, and color (bright and/or neutral). Smooth surfaces with
clean edges and line. When considering upholstery think tactile texture and not visual
texture. Natural materials are also important when considering upholstery. Cotton, wool,
jute, silk, and such.
5. Accessories 2 Less is more. Large pieces that make a statement and not a lot of clutter
are a key.
Why do inspire
Less is more:
Smooth profiles instead of ornamentation, solid or subtly patterned fabrics in lieu of colourful
prints, minimal accessories rather than big collections. While it doesn't have the overt warmth of
older design styles, it won't cast a chill either.
Sophisticated Neutrals:
Cream, white, tan, beige, black — these are the bedrock upon which contemporary design lies.
Monochromatic and tone2on2tone schemes allow the lines and shapes within a space to take
centre stage.
Open Space:
Contemporary design celebrates what isn't there as much as what is. Empty space takes on an
almost sculptural quality, carved out by the strong architecture. Because of their openness,
contemporary interiors are especially well suited to large2scale furnishings, art and accents.
Unadorned Floors:
If you're wild for the feel of bare feet on cool tile, you're in luck. Contemporary design eschews
rugs and carpeting in favour of sleeker, harder surfaces: bamboo; blond woods such as maple or
ash; stone; ceramic. Ebonized planks or dark2stained concrete can ground contemporary rooms
(as long as you're prepared to make friends with your dust mop).
Serious Shine:
Contemporary rooms are nothing if not polished, and that means high2gloss surfaces fit right in
Chrome, steel, lacquer, glass, plastic, tile and more all work in tandem to help bounce light around
a space. Mix materials for contrast and depth.
High2Impact Furniture:
Contemporary furnishings have clean lines and striking profiles. You won't find a lot of skirts or
slipcovers — even the most tailored versions can look too soft and full. Instead, focus on pieces
that show a little leg.
Centre2Stage Windows
Can you picture tasselled draperies or a balloon valance in this space? Neither can us. Windows
in a contemporary milieu are usually abundant, and they're often left undressed to highlight their
crisp lines and let natural light flood in.
Minimal Accessories:
Remember how we said "less is more?" Eschew eclectic groupings, fussy finds and bric2a2brac;
keep accessories simple, few and well2chosen. In this pared2down arrangement, every piece adds
drama without detracting from the streamlined feel.
Over scale Art
Walls in contemporary rooms don't usually have much in the way of adornment: no heavy
moldings, no plate collections, no family photo groupings. So they're a perfect foil for large works
of art that shine best amid gallery2style simplicity. Canvases should be framed very cleanly, if at
all. Streamlined sculpture, black2and2white photography, glass and prints also work. And if you like
your art a little edgy, it'll feel right at home.
On the basis of all these aspects & consideration I had shaped my main plan for the project portfolio and
the layouts are as follows2

CONCLUSION
Residential designing are obviously much freer and much more personal for both the interior
designer and the occupants than other types of interiors. In fact, homes that have been designed
unconsciously by creative occupants without any standard decorative rules are often the most
beautiful ones. Certain planning and functional considerations are constant in any residence, and
constant in any residence, and although these too may be ignored by the occupant who wishes to
be strongly individualistic, they can provide at least basic guidelines.
Today the houses are immensely sophisticated, very technical and use trendy materials. The
increasing availability of computer technology and internet access has ensured that many people
in the developed world; home is the primary place in their world. In design and architecture terms,
the reinvention of the home as work space has implications both for the organisation of space to
an existing set of conditions.
The initial phase of any design process is the reorganisation of a problematic condition and the
decision to find a solution to it. A designer must first see the existing condition of a problem, define
its context and collect relevant data to be assimilated and analyzed. It might be appropriate to be
able to recognize the basic element of from and space and understand how they can be
manipulated of a design concept, before addressing the more vital issue of meaning in design.
Keeping all these consideration in mind I planned a residential space for my client. The planning
process of the house starts with the check list of the client requirements, his likes dislikes & brief
given by him about his dream house. This continued in opting a style to make a cohensive design
& devising a shape for house.
The planning of the house was done based on the client, researches done & “the gestalt principles
of design” which divided the spaces in characters having leader, follower, grouping, loner,
watcher, out reaching, servant, workers etc. qualities & group them according to the served &
servant spaces.
The spaces were then converted into positive spaces by dividing them using “anthropometrics” &
“ergonomics” which deal in providing with standard human body dimensions to cut out spaces
according to the basic dimension of each activity required.

  • 6. ABSTRACT ENLIVENING IDEA he project is of MR. Anurag Goyal and of L2shape. The axis is South east2North west. The size of the plot is 17326.66sq.ft and situated in North east direction of Civil Lines locality Ajmer city, Rajasthan. The building orientation is South west2North east. The Project is based on space within a space and the main aim is to provide proper day lighting to enter into the home with a beautiful view of landscape outside. It includes various parameters of building design like the green home aspect, building envelope, ventilation along with effective use of climatology. The climate of Rajasthan is hot &dry and the temperature in summer is hot and in winter it is too cold. In the project the main aspect kept in mind was that an interior designer is not only designing interiors but he has to pay attention to the structure that is plan of the house and then leading to the design aspect. By this method interior designer helps in creating better spaces as per the need as the location of doors2windows are placed better, ventilation etc. Are all well set. We used visual skills in the design to analyze the design better. This project deals with various layout like structural i.e. construction drawing. For example 2 Beams & Pillars, Ceiling, Cut section, Elevation, Orthographic projections and in design working drawing. For example2 Furniture, False Ceiling based on anthropometric and ergonomics as per the client budget. T

  • 9. INSERTION Interior Design Industry Interior Design Industry is growing day by day. A house is a place where a person behaves in its natural form & is mainly for providing shelter since prehistoric time human being lives in shelter. Example 2The canvas or meticulously planned towns of Mohenjo2Daro, Harappa. To the present day houses which have grown up more luxurious & beautiful. For a man’s house is his castle , Sir Edward Coke this sentence was point by him in the 17th century & since then, we have a beautiful heritage of something known as period house starting from the beginning with the Tudor & Jacobean style (148521625). This period lead towards development of sophisticated structure & classicized decoration, this period saw the development of the increased specialization of how a room functioned, with in a house. In the middle ages the king would lived in one big room. Where he would eat, sleep & conduct affairs of the state. Fabric hangings during this time are considered inappropriate for rooms in which people ate as they tended to retain the smell of food. During this time timber, brick & stone were used. The Stone has less decorative than the timber ones, as stones were expensive & more difficult to carve. During this period the bay window came into existence along with oriels windows, at the same time cantilever projections came into existence for making structures. The furniture type during this period was more towards built in furniture. After the Tudor & Jacobean period Baroque period (162521714) came into existence. This period had a development of Courtly Style. This style had the development of room as basement, the piano nubile (main reception floor) & the attic (top floor). The piano nubile had pediment windows & very high ceilings it was the main area, where the ceremonial work were taken up, this period had grand carved entrances with the use of acanthus leaves & bulging fruits. This time period has the designs created by famous artist Michael Angelo. This period was followed by the early Georgian, Colonial, British, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Novae. The modern movement (192021950) played an important role in design industry, with the designer like Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier, Louis Khan and Frank Lloyd Wright. There contribution lead to meticulously design houses with proper planning & considerations to functionally with well developed clean uncluttered spaces, electrical wirings buried in the structure along with proper plumbing & water disposal. Metal windows with large glass panels, hygienic & efficient homes were developed. Sulliwal’s disciple Frank Lloyd Wright (186721959) designed buildings which rely more on spaces & form. This kind of design made a great impression on Walter Gropius (188321969), Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe (188621969). They define the doctrine of modernism in the 1920’s. Louis khan came with the idea of design development of interior spaces focusing more on served & servant spaces. He believed that served areas should be placed near the servant areas, so that the functionality of human space increases. Example 2The living room having served areas as kitchen & toilet. This concept of his has been popular till today. After the World War II in 1941 rational planning & economy were combined with high standard of mechanical services. In housing project where the designer were more concern how a building prefer more than whether it look modern? The modern movement sort to eliminate extra detailing & focused more simplicity with advancement of prefabricated materials like plywood, glass & other materials developed during this time period. Designs were developed when more of fresh air & maximum sunlight were pre2requisite one of the best characteristics which developed in the first phase of modernism. The elimination of patterns & texture on wall people used smooth plaster,
  • 10. glass brick room divider in the apartment with open plan layout, all this required a development of well educated work force, which could support the interior design industry & this lead to the development from the India government to take interest in design field. The Indian government has formulated a body known as Indian design council which plays an important role in promoting design development. The government of India setup the Indian design council at IIT Mumbai in year 1969 for initiating the post graduate programme in industrial design, but prior to setting industrial design education the development of art & design in India developed in year 1840. The first art school known as the Bombay Art School (1857) now known as Sir J.J. School Of Arts, The College of Arts Calcutta, cater To the Indian Design Development in the year 1913 “kala Bawan” the art college was set up as part of Shanti Niketan by the Tagore family. Not only this in the year 1922 Ravindra Nath Tagore met Walter Gropius & invited him for an exhibition to India. In 1958, the government of India invited Charles & Ray Eames to train the small industries to develop the craft & small scale industry. This resulted in the development of Indian design report. In the year 1960, based on this report of Charles & Ray Eames, the government of India setup the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmadabad 1987 the ministry of textile setup the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi (NIFT). In the year 1997, the full fledge department of design with Bachelors in design, Masters in design & the Doctoral Degrees came up at IIt Mumbai. From the year 1999, the private design schools along with the state universities started developing student with formal design educations. This was incorporated, so that the design industry could be supplemented, with more brains in the design field. Today many of the interior design companies has entered the Indian market, providing specialize designs. For Example2 Kohler, Duravit, Hacker, etc. These companies are developing solutions for customers whom are attractive & easy to install but these solutions provided by these companies are not tailor made. To make the design as per the Indian client, the interior designer has to study the Indian environment, climate, the client, his need, budget & then device a design, which is customer friendly, at the same time functional, as per the Indian needs. This project report showcases my idea of design as per the Indian client’s requirements in the section of residential design category.

  • 12. need to increase the plinth area of the house. The house has a floor plane which is tough & smooth for hygienic living and can be made up of bricks, flag sand stone, tiled, cement concrete, terrazzo, marble, rubble etc. The floor plane has adjoining wall areas make of bricks & stones. The stone are considered better for construction and can be utilized as rubble or ashlars masonry. Stone wall are considered good for Rajasthan as thick wall help to keep the Interiors cool. The brick walls are better option for making green homes they can be taken as cladding and for the face work with the different bonds like English bond, Flemish bond and with pointing between them like struck, v2shape etc. Brick is consider good for construction as it is a part of a sustainable design and absorb less heat. There are special made bricks and adobe bricks through which the houses can be made. These days fly ash bricks which are far better for the environment. Fly ash bricks & concrete blocks are used for construction. Cavity walls are better option for making wall. Having a gap of 20230mm this gap is usually filled with bad conductor like thermal insulation so that the heat outside the building is not able to enter inside the house. We even check the soil and the requisite treatment for termite, damp proofing is done proper foundation for the building. The beams & pillars, column, cantilever beams & construction details of the distances between them our studies on the shape & shape of structure of residential design. For a effective design to be developed one must see to the feeling to be generated inside the structure & this is mainly achieved by creating cheerful interior which is full of joy & happiness. To achieve this area I focused my attention towards day lighting & placement of windows & doors. Proper entrance of sunlight into a room generates happiness and placement of doors & windows with ventilations creates a better air circulation. The house is not situated in isolation. It is located on plot and the plot is situated on the land & the land is subjected by the seasons & the sun rays, at the same time the climate where the land is situated matters a lot in the design development. This study is calling the climatology of the place. I have done the in2depth studies for my client focusing on the micro & macro climate and the orientation and the sun rays entering into the buildings after considering the above points along with the planning methodology derived by Louis khan. POINTING
  • 13. I followed the method of space planning criteria like2 centralized; linear, radial, clustered & grid have been followed in the planning phase. The detailed dealing can be seen in my project report in the subsequent pages. After the consideration of above mentioned points. I devise a structure with the various layouts. For an Interior Design to be successfully the structure of the house with proper building envelope based on climatology of the place, day lighting etc should be taken consideration before & incitation of the Interior Design. For doing the Interior Design I pay proper consideration to colour scheme, elements & principle of design, texture, materials applications. But to start up with I choose a style & concept based on the concept & style the material were selected and they can be seen in my design project where I have utilized various orthographic projections to express my design. For visual application I have used ‘AutoCAD, Photoshop & 3Ds Max’. In this project report I have carefully handle many smaller details to make an effective plan of the residential space. My major focus is on space planning to generate more of space in a small space or a large space. Paying attention of the behaviour of human beings you can have a detailed report of the residential design designed by me in the subsequent pages. TERMITES TREATMENT
  • 14. PLANNING CONSIDERATION To design any residential area proper planning & brain storming needs to be done the planning phase of the residence is the most important phase because this leads to the development of the structure of the houses based on the shape & form chosen, the residential design should be planned based on the needs of the person. The design has to be functional so that the person can feel the space, express him & at the same time enjoy the space. Sanghavi’s house is a culmination of unfettered creativity and the opulent taste of the house owners. The house is surrounded by lush green landscape garden. When the designer designs the buildings all buildings exert their direct & indirect influence on the people who use the building as well as the ones who see the building from outside. Keeping into mind the above parameters the location of the site of sanghavi’s is situated in North east direction of Civil Lines locality Ajmer city, surrounded by Aravali hills and it is a district of Rajasthan. The size of plot is 17326.66sq.ft. The plot is of regular shape and if we see on the land no contours is there. The site had the constructed a house on its which has demolished and the other building materials spread on the land due to which fertile soil has to be used if landscaping is given importance. I believe the landscaping design enhance the efficiency of the project. The location of the site as per the Google map and the photograph of the land can be seen in the next page the site that has been assigned for the designing. CLIMATOLOGY Climate of Ajmer (macro climate):2 Ajmer weather is a typical desert type. In the summer time the climate of Ajmer is very hot and in winter it is quite cool. Both in summer as well as winter, there is a wide difference in the day and night temperature. In Summer: 2 45. c (maximum)225. c (minimum) In Winter: 2 18. c (maximum)24. c (minimum) Rainy Season: 2 July to mid September and very humid (up to 90%)
  • 15. Microclimate is one which changes day by day. As I read in the micro climate we can change the climate too by our design. Every designer has the capability to change the micro climate by his design parameter. Designer design accordingly to the look that they want to take in their design. So that work and living can be done in effective and efficient way. Orientation of the Site The axis of my building is South East2 North West. The building orientation is South West2North East Ajmer lies in hot and arid zone. Orientation of building in the zone require exclusion of summer sun during day time, maximum exposure to sun during winter and adequate provision of air change and comfort ventilation during monsoon. Provision of ceiling fans is necessary. ACCORDING TO INDIA CLIMATE ACCORDING TO AJMER CLIMATE
  • 16. Building Envelope The site has good sun light and the site is flanked on South West by a lane, in North West it has residential building and in North East there is an institutional building. Privacy part along with complete day lighting, emphasis on green house development as this site is located in hot & arid zone has been given due consideration. • 18. Grouping People gather for certain purpose, same objective, interest or goal. Copying the same the spaces that carry the same grouping character gather as a group There should be shortening up distance between rooms. In grouping the rooms should be on the same floor. Watcher2dining area, balconies. Loner This character affects the space distance from groups from a person who prefer more privacy and avoids social conversations and stays away from the crowd. In a residential project some clients may prefer more privacy for their master bedroom. In this case the loner can keep a distance away from certain spaces – living room, dining room or even other bedrooms. Servant A space that serves other spaces in some way that needs to adjacent to them but prefers not to appeal usually which is in reality. Servant needs to be near to the master while staying out of sight. Example 2 a rest room plays a servant character in many projects. People need at times rest rooms but prefer to be out of sight. Watcher This character causes a space to locate inside the boundary of the project for attractions in the environment. It is based on human nature that people like to watch or be close to certain incidence. The attraction can be like different environmental condition view such as parks, lake, parking area. This character is useful for many spaces like a waiting space, café coffee day, dining space and manager office. Out reaching The space with this character locates near the entrance or corridor for many activities that relate to out reaching. This type of space represents an outgoing or a sociable behaviour like human that can represent a welcome space or gathering space for a building a living room for a residential building, a lobby for office building, a waiting area for bank. Worker A space that offers supplies to other spaces it is not necessary for the space with this character to be adjacent to other spaces, but it needs to be near second entrance or service entrance. The difference between servant and worker is that the servant does not need to be adjacent to any entrance a service area usually have a worker character in several buildings. • 19. Gestalt principle of perception Gestalt psychology is a theory of brain and mind of the Berlin school. It believes that brain is holistic parallel with self organizing tendency. It believes that human eyes sees object in their entirely before perceiving their individual past. Gestalt psychologist says that perception is the product of complex interaction of various stimuli. Gestalt effect with respect to reorganization of figure is for whole form instead of collection of simple lines and curves. The use of phrase the whole is greater than same of its part. The concept of gestalt was first introduced in contemporary philosophy and psychology by Christian Von Ehrenfels. The idea of gestalt has its roots in the theories by David Hume, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Immanuel Kant, David Hartley, E2Ernest mach. It was device in the 20th century further by the other theorist this principle beginning by the theorist in the year 1886. The gestalt principle goes into the form of grouping of similar or proximate object at the same time goes into the research of behaviour thinking and problem solving. PRINCIPLES OF GESTALT The gestalt law of grouping Law of proximity Law of similarity Law of closure Law of symmetry Law of common faith Law of continuity Law of good gestalt Law of past experience
  • 20. LANDSCAPING Foundation plant Like corner plants foundation plants help anchor the house to the ground. The foundation plant directs the eye of a viewer to the entrance. Generally taller plants are placed at the corner with the height of plant descending towards the entrance. Entrance planting The plants used like entry way, drive way, or garden way or entry of house. Here the plant grouping should be used in a same way to invite the viewer to the designated place to the entry. Borders Grouping of plants used to define a space in the yard or divide a space are called borders. While placing borders they should be tall, leave spaces between borders to avoid monotony. Screens Are grouping of plants to hide or cover unwanted views of the area. Height26’. Evergreen plants should be used for screening. Deciduous plants. Whenever planting plants have the bed either straight or gradually covering .It helps in maintain easily and directs the eyes. Specimen plant Centre of attention plant. It should be used sparingly as they dominate landscape. Accent plant is also like a specimen plant but a little sub tile.
  • 21. PLANTS AS ARCHITECTURE The plants with respect to architecture can perform two roads .They can compliment and reinforce the existing architecture of the house or structure and they can create outdoor rooms. Trees, shrubs and ground covers can be used to emphasis the desirable architecture lines and masses of the house. Plants can be used to balance harsh and awkward architectural angles, masses and materials before actually installing plants. The designer needs to plan the location by assessing the desirable and undesirable qualities of house. We can use plants to frame desirable views of the house. The best views are not from straight on. The views to the entrance or windows are more interesting from an angle as one approach from a drive or walkway. The best part of the house can be to see through selective framing. Relationship between landscaping and interior Landscaping is about enhancing the look of the area around your house. Landscaping add to the beauty of the space along with good interiors put together. East2The deciduous trees and shrubs shade the east wall and windows in summer allowing the sun through in winter. West2Trees and shrubs to shade west walls and windows. North2Use ground cover in front of north facing windows, avoid paving (hard2scape).Plant deciduous trees and wines to the north. Never plant evergreen trees in the north. South2dense planting as wind breakers to the south and south west. South facing courtyard should be plants with firms, use climbers or pergolas to shade walls and pavings. Use low growing shrubs, ground cover or grass to absorb glare. Avoid large areas of paving near the home to reduce reflected glare. Shade large areas of paving with trees and pergolas. Wind breaks are most effective when they are located at 90 at the direction of the wind. A vertical summered permeable wind break with 50 to 60 densities is generally more effective than a solid one such as a wall.
  • 22. Elements of design principle We don’t use plants with core texture. Fine texture. If garden is big then take big, short and too short leaf plants. Texture Associated with sense of touch and sight. In addition to being rough or soft texture also describes how one sees a visual difference. Rough texture minimizes difference. Plants appear closer and the space feels smaller and close. Coarse texture plants are more dominant and tend to dominate the color and form. A fine texture plants have thin leaves, thin stems and they leave a stronger form. They create a solid hedge. Spreading, Sprawling2lush green grass, Short spikes2asparagus, Matt2Australian grass, Arch2bougnvillia, Upright2Ashok tree, Spiky, Cascading, Irregular2ferns. By keeping into mind these certain points we do the planning part. After seeing the site location above parameters I analyze2 The soil at site it has not good value of bearing capacity. Water table of ground at the site is not very high. The site is situated in a develops area which is having facilities like in North East direction there is an educational building nearby Ajmer hospital, Bus stand, Hotel RTDC and utility service like water supply, drainage, and sanitation gas supply, Electricity. The site is located away from Quarries kilns, industrial plant/buildings, emitting smoke, steam fumes of obnoxious odor, noise or other similar environmental pollutants
  • 23. CLIENT RESEARCH Define Research Problem – My client Mr. Suresh Sanghavi is a business man and he is an introvert person. He has good aesthetic sense. He wants very opulent living. • 28. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN The main objectives of planning a building are to ensure that the different components of a building are so arranged that the occupants can perform desired function with ease and comfort. Good planning also requires that the entire area available within the building is gainfully utilized, with minimum area allocated to circulation. The good planning incorporates features like sustainability of design linking with green homes if we pay attention to these parameters at the inception stage of the project. We will be contributing towards a better earth and surroundings. For this we have to keep in mind “Sustainable Development”. It is a development that meets the needs of present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. For development to be sustainable it must take account of social and ecological factors as well as economic ones of the living and non living resources base and of the long term as well as the short term advantages of alternative actions. Proper land use is one of the most effective ways to conserve ecosystem. Due to increase population land are scarce so the prices of land are accelerating day by day. So people cannot afford large piece of land due to high prices so they are making small houses and they wanted more productive. They want their surrounding neat so they need to use of concrete & cement to make
  • 29. the outside area solid due to small piece of land people want to utilize the land as much as they can and they did not pay attention towards green homes. This term out bad inter look run one drawback is the outside area as it is made up of hard escape using cement it absorb more heat of the sun which radiates into the environment in summer. Then the building external wall becomes heated finally the inside of the house get heated. The glass also takes the heat immediately and worms the interior because of this people are bringing about another global2scale change in the atmosphere i.e. global warming. Global warming will have different effects in different regions. A warmed world is expected to have more extreme weather and in this situation if we use more hard area the problem which we across through a problem that it emits more radiations and glare during day time especially in summer. To relieve themselves from the heat people most of the time use Coolers & Ac and they use more of electricity to cool them and the same happens in winters it becomes very cold and people use gadgets like hot air blowers, heaters etc. to warm them. This again needs electricity we are in turn to using the non2renewable sources of energy the electricity too much leading to wastage of it. We can achieve sustainable development by adoption of efficient and eco2friendly technologies. Use of more day lighting into the home with proper ventilation and using DAY LIGHTING
  • 30. good type of glass on the window so that they reduce the usage of electricity and all external wall are constructed so that it reduce glare and cool the internal climate. Not only this in the rainy season the situation is more bad the water from the terrace and ground area all wash off through the drains to the outside drain and if we pay attention to all the houses as they are all properly cemented and concreted the water from the ground is completely lost into the drains and become unutilized we did not contribute to the underground water table which in turn leads to shortage of portable water i.e. drinking water. Many people all over the world knowingly or in knowingly cause the degradation of natural resources which has an adverse effect on the environment. This problem is not only restricted to one region. Rather it has become a global issue. Improper management of waste leads to several environment problems, health hazards to human beings, fresh water, marine etc. A number of measures need to be taken from the better management of the water resources are2 Encouragement to and improvement in traditional methods of rain water harvesting and storage. Water conservation measures in landscape and garden such as using drip irrigation. Strict measures for prevention due to toxic chemical in water bodies. While designing resident we have to keep in mind the appropriate type of material used in the buildings so that it maintain cost is less, durability of the material is long, weather resistant, easily available in the local market all the material which is used in the building using according to their characteristics and property so that it life become longer. By considering above sustainable parameters we can design our residential project in better and efficient way.
  • 31. HOW TO PLAN The residential design should be planned based on the needs of the person. It has been seen all human beings requirements & needs to a certain extent are similar, when we see magazines & books showcasing beautiful images of decorative room people feels happy to see them but Interior Designing is not so easy, like the attractive image of the book. The design has to be functional so that the person can feel the space, express him & at the same time enjoy the space. It is also seen if the number of occupants in our home is less & the space planned in the design is more, at the same time if the space is planned in such a manner which is activity based & the areas are well lighted up, more compact and gives a feeling of small space, a person appears more cheerful. In India we have a climate which is hot & dry throughout the year & the sun shines brilliantly the whole year, with the winter months being less. It is in this surrounding climate, that residences of a person will exits. To device a proper Interior Design must see outside building envelope along with the interior space so that we can achieve the client requirement. I have here utilized more of day lighting factor while planning. As I said earlier in India the climate is dry & humid throughout the year & the house is enveloped by this factor so my main consideration has been focusing on climatology & the building envelope. Apart from this consideration, proper ventilations & at the same time, approaches to the building entrances, orientation of the plot, along with the building corners, the floor levels & windows placement. The placement of windows & door were carried out based on day lighting concept & Gestalt principle of designing. The building plan is L2shape and building orientation is South West2North East. The axis is South East2North West. I have segregated my space in served & servant, loner & watcher areas according to the principles of Louis Kahn. Planning of space2 ! The main entrance is from the South East side. The first entry leads to ‘Atrium’ and all the rooms are arranged around centrally placed Atrium. All the external walls are constructed with brick, cement mortar and thermal insulation materials i.e. cavity wall is constructed so that it reduce glare and cools the internal climate.
  • 32. Large openings are provided to get essential ventilation and large openings are on South West direction. We used with low2e2emissivity glass so that proper sun light enters into the area and this type of glass has a capacity to reflects sun rays and it minimize the heatsolar radiation and on South East direction no direct sun rays is there. Only slant rays enter into the building and only early morning sun rays enters into the building directly from South East direction. These early morning sun rays do not have much glare into it. Trees in particular effectively shade and reduce heat gain. They increase humidity level they also cause velocity difference thereby increasing and decreasing air speed flow in that direction. Accordingly to the plot from South direction direct sun rays come into the buildings so we use trees, plants & shrubs on that direction more. In front of the entrance there is stairs which leads to the upper floor i.e. on North West direction of the building and after stairs there is to be a secondary entrance which leads to a washing area. The centrally placed Atrium admits the light inside the building. The building has two external entry i.e. main entrances. Open space have to be seen in conjunction with the built form. They allow for free air circulation and increased heat loss or gain “The question is how should they be and how much should there be?” Atrium plays an important role to modify the micro climate. A large one allows more of the natural climate of the place to prevail. If the atrium is large so it gains more heat during the dy. If the ground is hard then much of radiation is reflected and absorbed by the surrounding buildings. So the ground of atrium is to be soft and green so that then only less heat radiation is reflected. So I made Atrium with Landscape lawn and have small water body around the lawn. First floor is raised towards all the direction. The roof of the first floor is flat and made up of R.C.C. with some asbestos sheetspowder coating on to it or with insulation material covering laid by white glazed tile and on top floor we put Clare story window for proper ventilation. Contemporary Style2 The plan forms its various features like windows, doors & furniture style etc. which were untied by my style. The style which I adopted was “Contemporary” due to ‘less is more’ concept. The style states various characteristics which give the plan & house the look of that style. This style evolved from the ‘Modern Art/ International’ style of the 20th century. Contemporary design is oriented along a strong horizontal2vertical axis from architecture to furnishings. The structure of a space becomes an integral design component on its own. The plan which I devised followed these aspects of planning & combining various components through the style opted. The shape of plan mostly focuses on lines & forms – two essentials of good design. The whole layout are designed with abundant open space and natural light in keeping into mind which makes them feel airy and expansive because there is not any clutter. Everything in my design have square corners and balance the look with a few curves because of their openness interior are especially well suited to large scale furnishing, art and accent gives a flavour of Contemporary Style.
  • 33. Common elements found in a contemporary style include 1. Color 2 The foundation is mostly neutral in shades of black, white, brown/beige, and gray. The overall palette will be dressed up with pops of brighter colors in anything from red, orange, brighter tones of yellowQbasically all colors that are considered bold. 2. Line and Space 2 Geometric, clean lines, high ceilings, very architectural in feeling. Open spaces with high ceilings and large windows. Typically minimal or no window coverings are common in a contemporary style. 3. Surfaces 2 Smooth and clean surfaces often in natural materials such as wood or stone. Concrete is also common. Carpets and rugs are simple and soft under foot in natural materials such as wool and jute. 4. Furniture2 Simple in line, texture, and color (bright and/or neutral). Smooth surfaces with clean edges and line. When considering upholstery think tactile texture and not visual texture. Natural materials are also important when considering upholstery. Cotton, wool, jute, silk, and such. 5. Accessories 2 Less is more. Large pieces that make a statement and not a lot of clutter are a key. Why do inspire Less is more: Smooth profiles instead of ornamentation, solid or subtly patterned fabrics in lieu of colourful prints, minimal accessories rather than big collections. While it doesn't have the overt warmth of older design styles, it won't cast a chill either. Sophisticated Neutrals: Cream, white, tan, beige, black — these are the bedrock upon which contemporary design lies. Monochromatic and tone2on2tone schemes allow the lines and shapes within a space to take centre stage. Open Space: Contemporary design celebrates what isn't there as much as what is. Empty space takes on an almost sculptural quality, carved out by the strong architecture. Because of their openness, contemporary interiors are especially well suited to large2scale furnishings, art and accents. Unadorned Floors: If you're wild for the feel of bare feet on cool tile, you're in luck. Contemporary design eschews rugs and carpeting in favour of sleeker, harder surfaces: bamboo; blond woods such as maple or ash; stone; ceramic. Ebonized planks or dark2stained concrete can ground contemporary rooms (as long as you're prepared to make friends with your dust mop).
  • 34. Serious Shine: Contemporary rooms are nothing if not polished, and that means high2gloss surfaces fit right in Chrome, steel, lacquer, glass, plastic, tile and more all work in tandem to help bounce light around a space. Mix materials for contrast and depth. High2Impact Furniture: Contemporary furnishings have clean lines and striking profiles. You won't find a lot of skirts or slipcovers — even the most tailored versions can look too soft and full. Instead, focus on pieces that show a little leg. Centre2Stage Windows Can you picture tasselled draperies or a balloon valance in this space? Neither can us. Windows in a contemporary milieu are usually abundant, and they're often left undressed to highlight their crisp lines and let natural light flood in. Minimal Accessories: Remember how we said "less is more?" Eschew eclectic groupings, fussy finds and bric2a2brac; keep accessories simple, few and well2chosen. In this pared2down arrangement, every piece adds drama without detracting from the streamlined feel. Over scale Art Walls in contemporary rooms don't usually have much in the way of adornment: no heavy moldings, no plate collections, no family photo groupings. So they're a perfect foil for large works of art that shine best amid gallery2style simplicity. Canvases should be framed very cleanly, if at all. Streamlined sculpture, black2and2white photography, glass and prints also work. And if you like your art a little edgy, it'll feel right at home. On the basis of all these aspects & consideration I had shaped my main plan for the project portfolio and the layouts are as follows2
  • 38. RENDER LIVING ROOM TOP VIEW
  • 40. VIEW FROM DINING AREA TOWARDS LIVINGROOM
  • 41. FRONT VIEW OF LIVING ROOM
  • 42. VIEW FROM LIVING ROOM TOWARDS DINING AREA
  • 45. CONCLUSION Residential designing are obviously much freer and much more personal for both the interior designer and the occupants than other types of interiors. In fact, homes that have been designed unconsciously by creative occupants without any standard decorative rules are often the most beautiful ones. Certain planning and functional considerations are constant in any residence, and constant in any residence, and although these too may be ignored by the occupant who wishes to be strongly individualistic, they can provide at least basic guidelines. Today the houses are immensely sophisticated, very technical and use trendy materials. The increasing availability of computer technology and internet access has ensured that many people in the developed world; home is the primary place in their world. In design and architecture terms, the reinvention of the home as work space has implications both for the organisation of space to an existing set of conditions. The initial phase of any design process is the reorganisation of a problematic condition and the decision to find a solution to it. A designer must first see the existing condition of a problem, define its context and collect relevant data to be assimilated and analyzed. It might be appropriate to be able to recognize the basic element of from and space and understand how they can be manipulated of a design concept, before addressing the more vital issue of meaning in design. Keeping all these consideration in mind I planned a residential space for my client. The planning process of the house starts with the check list of the client requirements, his likes dislikes & brief given by him about his dream house. This continued in opting a style to make a cohensive design & devising a shape for house. The planning of the house was done based on the client, researches done & “the gestalt principles of design” which divided the spaces in characters having leader, follower, grouping, loner, watcher, out reaching, servant, workers etc. qualities & group them according to the served & servant spaces. The spaces were then converted into positive spaces by dividing them using “anthropometrics” & “ergonomics” which deal in providing with standard human body dimensions to cut out spaces according to the basic dimension of each activity required.
