This research proposal aims to analyze shared leadership in a self-managing team through a situational approach. The researcher will observe a road maintenance team at Hamilton City Council for 4 hours per week over 6 weeks, focusing on their morning meetings. Informal interviews will provide context. A literature review and situational analysis guided by Alvesson's theory will explore how team members influence direction and relationships through interaction. Insights on shared leadership and the usefulness of the situational perspective are the desired outcomes. Time and access constraints limit the study, while focusing on one team allows greater depth of understanding.
