This document outlines a learning contract menu for a research/inquiry project. It provides students with choices and requirements in several areas to improve their research skills and create a final learning product. Students must choose skills to target from the AASL standards, bookmarking and information dashboard tools, information management tools, learning reflections platforms, content creation tools, information sources, and a format for their final product. They must also choose an organization method. The goal is for students to master 10 total research standards and create a portfolio demonstrating their learning.

In this assignment you will develop simple scripts to manage the user and file system whilst
developing some expertise in managing a complex file system.
Part 1: Automated Account Management (4 marks)
You have been asked by your boss to prepare two shell scripts which manage user information.
You are to prepare a simple shell script which reads a text file called users.txt. The file is in the
form
dfs /home/dfs Daniel Saffioti
and creates these users on the system without any interactive input. To do this you will need to
use the adduser(1) and passwd(1) commands. You will need to randomly produce the password
and report this to the administrator.
You can assume the fields being username, home directory and GCOS string are separate by a
single white space.
You can assume all users are in the same group.
The program should output the username and generated password once created.
Part 2: Design of a File System (3 marks)

You work for the Information Technology Department in your University and you have been
asked to build a server to store user data (home directories).
The volumes can grow without bounds, so it was felt that the ZFS file system should be used for
each volume. The operating system itself need not be on a ZFS volume.
All volumes including the operating system should be engineered in such a way to ensure the
best data protection is afforded in the event of local disk failure. It is expected that no more than
1 hours worth of data will be lost.
The volumes required are as follows:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

As we try to improve our understanding and use of research vocabulary/terms, we are going to
crowdsource what we know and are learning about these terms as a group.
Each student will select a research term to define and investigate; the findings will be shared in two
ways:
1. You will create a visual to go on our bulletin board and a brief summary/definition/description that
will fit on a 4x6 notecard (you can get your own, or we can provide one for you through the library).
2. You will create a wiki page (Ms. Hamilton will set up the wiki—you just add and create your page
content) that includes:
A. a definition/overview (this could be text, a Prezi, or your own original PPT that you could upload to
Slideshare and embed)
B. any additional materials to help someone learn more (official tutorial videos on YouTube) or links
to credible articles/websites about the research term or tool.
