1. ¿How to deal with large groups in public schools?
“One of the most important aspects in relation with the process of teaching is the
quantity of students in relation with the size of the classroom itself; this is a very
important aspect because as teachers we need to created an environment of
attention, very dynamic and at the same time accurate and logical, and there are
places which are far away from this goal, and then is when we got the difficulties at
the moment of giving a class”
As teacher we need to identify if the place can provide an appropriated atmosphere
in which we can work without feeling powerless, what I observed is that in a wide
classroom the concentration of the students is more difficult to catch, or perhaps
more easy to lose, and for that reason is the importance of created different
techniques or methods in order to know how to keep active the attention of the
students.
My experience in the San Simon’s School was awesome, because is one of the
most distinguished institution in Ibague, no matter what it calls my attention at first,
was that the entire institution is tremendously huge! There are many classrooms
and the energy of the kids was just striking, at the same time the classroom seems
to be good in terms of size and brightness, at the beginning this was not a relevant
issue in my observation but trough the development of the class I realized that the
concentration of the students in some moments was not the best, this can be
caused because if the lack of the attention from the students or probably is related
with the kind of methodology from the teacher, the youth of nowadays is not easy
to impress and for that reason I thing that we as teacher can be more like a
chameleon and change according to the context and the different situations that
occurs in a normal class, if we are going to teach in the same way our teachers
had done before with us, there will be not a evolution at all, but at the same time I
understand that the traditional method is always present specially if we are talking
about a school that comes from a long heritage of religion and history.By now, my
thoughts in front of this experience gives me a new idea of how must be the
development of a classroom and find out the best way to handle certain situations
related with the lack of motivation in the students, when you are giving a class the
motivation must be an important goal to achieve, to if you class is bored and
monotonous there will be no a good performance from the students, for that reason
my research question will be focus in aspects like the motivation of the students
and the traditional methodologies.
