To Whom It May Concern:
My family and I recently moved back to Michigan from Las Vegas, NV where I was a High
School Science teacher for almost eight years. I am currently in the final stages of obtaining
my Michigan Teaching License. My educational background in Human Biology and
Education, along with my professional experience, makes me an excellent candidate for
employment in your district.
I believe that my instructional abilities, combined with my strong interpersonal skills and work
ethic would greatly benefit your educational program. As a teacher I hope to motivate students
in ascertaining their inner strengths and abilities and discovering what truly inspires them. I
aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to construct their
own learning experiences, while facilitating student comprehension and knowledge.
As a biology teacher, my number one goal is to instill a sense of curiosity about the world
around us while helping students develop an awareness of themselves and our world. I
encourage students to think critically and learn how to seek answers. Doing so will help them
acquire the skills needed to become productive members of society and our future leaders. In
my classroom, I support the development of critical thinking skills by requiring students to ask
scientific questions, create hypotheses, design and perform experiments, interpret data,
formulate conclusions, and communicate their results.
I have had success with students of all abilities; from higher level Advanced Placement and
honors students to lower level and special education students. Classrooms always contain
students with a variety of skills and abilities as well as various learning styles. It is important
to present class materials in a variety of formats, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. I
feel that most students learn best by doing, so I include a lot of laboratory experiments and
hands on activities that allow students to interact with the material to increase engagement and
strengthen understanding.
An awareness of students’ various levels and skills allows me to differentiate instruction in my
classroom. It is important to identify the advanced students and modify assignments to ensure
it is challenging for them. This does not necessarily mean extra work, but instead could mean
exploring a concept in more detail or tackling more difficult problems. On the other hand,
2. students whose skills are lacking or those with disabilities need other accommodations in the
classroom in order to be successful. Assignments can be tailored to their individual needs.
These students can be assigned fewer or simpler problems and still achieve mastery of the
material. Breaking instruction or assignments into smaller chunks also helps these students to
understand difficult concepts and allows them to work through problems more slowly while
developing their basic skills. Differentiating instruction ensures that all students remain
challenged, engaged, and productive.
I strive to create a safe, positive, inspiring climate of mutual respect in my classroom. I am
passionate about my job and truly care about each and every student as well as their success.
It is important for me to respect my students, their views, and their diverse cultures, thereby
encouraging them to reciprocate. Through my lead, students learn to respect each other and
their beliefs, embrace their diverse cultural differences, and learn to work together as a team.
Organization, preparation, and the implementation of procedures allow me to maintain a
stimulating and productive classroom. It is critical that rules and procedures are effectively
communicated and consistently enforced. I always welcome feedback from my students
allowing me to improve my teaching methods and grow as an educator. Creating and
maintaining this learning environment, along with hard work and dedication, are the keys to
the success of all students.
While this introduction letter highlights some of my key strengths, it can only begin to
showcase my abilities as an effective educator. I look forward to arranging an interview to
further discuss how I can contribute to your educational institution, and greatly appreciate your
time and consideration.
Sincerely,
