2018 SEL MSPSC Panel Slides on Creating Inherently Safe Cyber Power SystemsNathan Wallace, PhD, PE
Slides from a panel presentation at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories’ Modern Solutions Power Systems Conference. The panel titled ‘ Inherently Safe Cyber‘ was moderated by Dr. Ryan Bradetich, SEL’s VP of Automation and Communication R&D. After possing a hypothetical scenario, each panelist was asked to give a 15-minute presentation outlining their approach followed by some Q/A. About Panel: Cyber needs a fundamental change to realize a future where our communications networks and information systems are inherently safe. Can we take advantage of operational technology applications to solve the problem for the power industry? By posing a hypothetical solution, the panel will discuss engineering a cybersecure power system network.

Presentation given at the OpenStack summit in Paris (Kilo) on Tue Nov 4th.
Last summit I had the pleasure to present a talk which encountered some success "Are enterprise ready for the OpenStack transformation?" (also published on SlideShare) . This talk is a follow up on what are the best practices that are successful in operating the transformation. We will first focus on identifying the right use cases for a generic enterprise, then define a roadmap with an organisational and a technical track, to finish with the definition what would be our success criterias for our group. This will happen as a workshop summary based on the multiple engagements eNovance has been delivering over the past 2 years.
Rackspace: Unlock Your Cloud - RightScale Compute 2013RightScale
Speaker: Mike Metral - Solution Architect, Rackspace
Are you struggling with how to get out of a locked-in virtualized environment and into a truly open one? By itself, OpenStack doesn’t offer the feature set you need to continue running your apps without significant investment in additional resources. What makes it doable is RightScale on top of Rackspace Private Cloud. Join Mike Metral, solution architect at Rackspace, as he walks through an application’s Open Cloud transformation.
Key topics to be discussed:
Proprietary Cloud vs. Open Cloud – The bake-off
Why Open is so compelling
Challenges for considering your move
How to move the application stack
Coding Secure Infrastructure in the Cloud using the PIE frameworkJames Wickett
At National Instruments, we have developed an automation and provisioning framework called PIE (Programmable Infrastructure Environment) that we use daily on our devops team. Similar tools are available such as chef or puppet, but what makes PIE unique is its ability to work in multi-cloud deployments (Azure and AWS) along with multiple node OS types (linux and windows). It uses zookeeper to keep state and track dependencies across nodes and services.
When building PIE we actively considered how to implement it in a Rugged way for a DevOps team. As noted in the deck on slide 68, we are Rugged by Design and Devops by Culture. We see these as intersecting domains that have the ability to impact each other. For more info see ruggeddevops.org
Application Virtualization, University of New HampshireTony Austwick
Presentation to EDUCAUSE, NERCOMP by David Blezzard from University of New Hampshire.
More here http://www.educause.edu/nercomp-annual-conference/2016/2016/streamlining-application-deployment-and-management-through-virtualization
We will report how using the Application Jukebox application virtualization solution at the University of New Hampshire has saved time and simplified management of public and department-specific computer labs and our VDI environment. Traditionally, we used a combination of imaging and then various scripted deployments to install applications. With application virtualization, we have been able to move over a hundred Windows applications into virtual packages that can be "installed" by users on demand. We will discuss the general problem of managing large numbers of complex applications across a range of computer environments while also trying to be flexible and responsive to users.
Outcomes: Understand how application virtualization can overcome issues with deploying software * Appreciate the capabilities of Application Jukebox to be able to assess its utility to your campus * Obtain a model for evaluating a tool's potential savings
Data Science in Production: Technologies That Drive Adoption of Data Science ...Nir Yungster
Critical to a data science team’s ability to drive impact is its effectiveness in incorporating its solutions into new or existing products. When collaborating with other engineering teams, and especially when solutions must operate at scale, technological choices can be critical factors in determining what type of outcome you'll have. We walk through strategies and specific technologies - Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes - that can help promote successful collaboration between data science and engineering.

Available Research Topics in Machine LearningTechsparks
Due to the continuous the development in IT sector, research students have good chance in preparing their research papers in the field of the computer science. Although there are many subject areas that students opt for preparing their research papers, the most leading one is machine learning. What is the Machine Learning and why it is a leading subject area? Machine learning is an approach to analyzing the data. It is the applicable to automate construction of an analytical system. Considered one of the best sub-fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning allows systems to gain knowledge from the given data, recognize the patterns, and act accordingly without any human interference. Basically, machines are trained on how to learn and recognize various patterns in a given dataset, hence its name-'machine learning'. Both-small and big companies are using set of rules to develop models for getting better at the decision-making process without any human interference.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
