The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), in association with international partners, launched a research center in Delhi called the Centre for Control of Chronic Conditions (CCCC) to take an integrated approach to studying chronic diseases. The CCCC merged three existing PHFI centers dealing with overlapping risk factors like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression. It is a collaboration between PHFI, AIIMS, Emory University, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The partners will work together and share students and staff to study chronic diseases affecting populations in South Asia.

The Association of Unani Physicians (AUP), Bihar has been organizing several events centered on academic activities and welfare issues of Unani physicians since 2012. All along, these events have been an abundant source of knowledge and have aided the participants in enhancing their clinical skills as well. One of the events in this series is ONCON-22 (An Integrative Approach in Cancer Management). The whole world perceives that in the last couple of years, COVID-19 is the biggest killer of humans. However, the association of comorbidities like non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with COVID-19 augmented the mortality rate and has had a detrimental effect on global healthcare systems, with a ripple effect on every aspect of human life. Yet, the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) has increased manifold lately. Likewise, India is facing the rising burden of NCDs, including cancer too. Several hypotheses, including out-of-whack lifestyles, changing climatic conditions, and an aging population, explain the rising prevalence of NCDs. I am not denying these facts, but then there are further reasons behind them. It is a well-known fact that diet, drink, regimen, and environmental conditions all play a role in health and disease. Not only our environment, air, and water reservoirs, but the cultivating lands too are polluted with a number of toxic chemicals. Some of the key reasons are: Several types of pesticides, fertilizers, and even hormones are being used in the cultivation process. Use of a variety of hazardous chemicals by vendors for the coloring and coating of fruit and vegetables to make them attractive. Also, reputed companies add several types of preservatives, coloring chemicals, etc., not merely to the raw foods but the processed foods too. When it comes to our territory, the amount of arsenic in drinking water in some areas of Patna is 10 times higher than the WHO permissible limit, and health agencies have noticed that fish in Patna was polluted. In these circumstances, the display of the warning "Tobacco causes cancer" on packets of Cigarettes is not enough for the prevention of cancer. So, the biggest challenge to control the NCDs is meeting the demand for essential commodities in general and dietary substances in particular, and the liability of Dalak (massage), Riyazat (exercise), and Yoga will be better to amuse. The AUP Bihar is moving one step forward in the management and control of cancer. For this program, we have invited a number of prominent scholars of Unani medicine and eminent cancer specialists from different parts of the country to convey their orations. We are confident that, Insha Allah, the program will be beneficial to the delegates and truants afterward through souvenirs. We feel glad to inform you that the publication of the souvenir was aimed at assembling the literature on cancer from the innumerable treatises of Unani medicine for more advanced research.

The Indonesian general practitioners’ perspectives on formal postgraduate tra...UniversitasGadjahMada
This study aims to explore the general practitioner (GP)'s views and perspectives related to the formal postgraduate training in primary care that may influence their enrolment in PCP program. We conducted semi-structured interviews with a topic guide. The study took place in Yogyakarta from January to December 2016. The participants were GPs practicing in Yogyakarta primary care clinics who were recruited using purposive-maximum variation sample design. The interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed. The data were analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis approach. Nineteen GPs participants were involved in this study. Three major themes were identified, namely unfamiliarity, resistance, and positivism. Almost all the GP participants were unfamiliar with the primary care training program. They were also pessimistic if the training could change the health service in the country while it lacked resources and infrastructures. However, exposure to the training brought positive insights that it could improve the doctors’ knowledge and skills in primary care practice. The government intention to establish PCP training is currently on the right tract. However, information dissemination and more supports in primary care are also essential.
The Academy White Paper was published in October 2014 as a means to tell the Academy’s story, the history of how AIHM came to be, and why its formation is timely and important.

Trends shaping corporate health in the workplaceApollo Hospitals
The paradigm for corporate health is morphing from traditional curative services to health protection and promotion. An epidemic of “lifestyle diseases” has developed in the India which warrants an organized integration of company's health, safety and environment policy through a directed wellness program. The current study explored the burden and determinants of lifestyle diseases among an organization.
The world, as we know, has changed. It has become imperative for the governments, employers, workers' organizations, and the global community to adopt workforce protection measures in the fight against COVID-19. These organizations should strengthen capacities to protect health workers and emergency responders, providing them with Occupational Health Services, thus ensuring occupational health and safety. Health workers are at the front line of the COVID-19 outbreak response and hence exposed to hazards that put them at a high risk of infection. Hazards include pathogen exposure, long working hours, psychological distress, fatigue, occupational burnout, stigma, and physical and psychological violence.
As the crisis is set to deepen in the coming months, the absence of adequate protection measures has further amplified the fear of COVID-19 infection and hence put a huge strain on the mental health and psychosocial aspects of health workers. All these have resulted in high rates of absenteeism/absconding and depletion of the Health Workforce. What best practices could safeguard the most precision resource against the COVID-19 outbreak – the healthcare workers? How can we build resilience and boost morale among our health workers?
Here's the webinar "Caring for Caregivers – COVID-19 Crisis and Best Practices for Healthcare Organizations" hosted by QurHealth, a division of GMI, a Chennai-based Health-tech, Research and Innovation Center for Ventech Solutions, USA. QurHealth’s Family Health Book Suite goFHB is a clinical data digitalization & management solution for healthcare organizations that enables them to send patient health records over myFHB application to their patients. Our last three webinars saw 400+ registrations and 250+ delegates participating and promoting active discussion on industry-specific subjects. The upcoming webinar with Healthcare experts will focus on “Caring for Caregivers” addressing the queries and doubts in the minds of healthcare workers and organizations on best practices for healthcare organizations against the COVID-19 crisis.

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), in association with Indian
and international partners, launched a research center, focusing on
chronic diseases, based in Delhi.
With its secretariat at PHFI, the Centre for Control of Chronic
Conditions (CCCC) in India is a collaboration between the foundation,
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Emory University and
the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). It has
been formed by merging three centers at PHFI -the Centre for Cardio-
metabolic Risk Reduction in South Asia (with Emory University and
AIIMS as partners), the South Asia Network for Chronic Diseases and
the Centre for Mental Health (in a tie-up with LSHTM).

Given that the centres dealt with ailments which have overlapping risk
factors, the authorities decided to bring them together to take an integrated
approach, says D Prabhakaran, vice president, PHFI and director, CCCC. For
example, tobacco, low physical activity and an unhealthy diet lead to four
diseases -heart and lung diseases, cancer and diabetes, which cause 50% of
all deaths worldwide, he says. “Diseases co-exist. About 20-30% diabetic
people have depression.“
The partners host each other's students and staff. For instance, Emory has
loaned a full-time epidemiologist to the centre for three years to begin with.
The collaboration “stems from initial efforts by scientists at the four
institutes to study diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, depression and other
chronic diseases in populations in South Asia, including India, Pakistan and
Bangladesh,“ says James W Curran, dean, Rollins School of Public Health,
Emory University.
