This document summarizes a presentation on the research methodology used to analyze Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story "The Artist of the Beautiful." The research was a qualitative study that examined the story and other documents to understand Hawthorne's depiction of spiritualism through the protagonist Owen Warland. Warland renounces materialism and pursues spiritual freedom through his artistic creation of a mechanical butterfly. The analysis found that Warland's journey represents an odyssey towards spiritualism over worldly concerns. Concepts from religious texts and philosophers like Thomas Kempis, Swami Vivekananda, and the Bhagavad Gita provided a framework to understand the story's spiritual themes.
