Vibe Magazine was founded in 1993 by Quincy Jones and Time Inc. as a music and entertainment magazine focusing on R&B and hip-hop. It was originally launched as Volume but later renamed Vibe by editor Scott Bryant. Miller Publishing bought Vibe in 1996. After changing ownership several times, Vibe ceased print publication in 2009 but was later revived online. At its peak, Vibe had 800,000 readers and was known for its creative album cover designs featuring artists like Michael Jackson, Tupac, and Beyoncé.

3. The magazine was launched in 1993 – originally called Volume before co-
editor Scott Bryant gave it the name Vibe.
Miller Publishing bought Vibe in 1996.
The Wicks Group of Companies then bought the magazine in 2006.
On June 30, 2009, Vibe shut its doors and ceased publication
immediately.
InterMedia Partners then bought Vibe and brought the magazine back to
life. They added Uptown magazine to Vibe’s parent company, Vibe Holdings.
Vibe Holdings merged with BlackBook Media to form Vibe Media in 2012.

4. The magazine features R&B and hip-hop music
artists, actors and other entertainers.
At it’s peak, VIBE had a loyal 800,000 readers.
VIBE is the premier destination for urban music,
entertainment, culture and lifestyle for the aspirational
18-34 year old Target Audience.
The magazine was known for the creativity of
their covers. Artists on them included:
Mary J. Blige, TLC, Brandy, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, Beyonce,
Amerie, Lil Wayne, The Fugees, R.Kelly, Michael Jackson and
Tupac.
