UNIT 3 ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Research Essay Outlines
Research projects are huge, with many moving pieces to keep track of. There is your voice, your
argument, other voices in the field, other arguments—and this is just to start. Structuring all of these
components can be the hardest part of the research essay writing process. But it doesn’t have to be.
Typically, the greatest issues in a research essay come from a lack of outlining. Without a guide,
topics and arguments can begin to lose their way. So for this assignment, you are to create a
detailed outline of your research essay that moves entirely through the progression of your paper.
In equal parts, we should see a beginning, a middle, and an end in the outline.
THIS ASSIGNMENT REQUIRES:
• A working thesis statement
• Clear topic sentences that umbrella several corresponding details
• Entries of the research implementation planned (full titles and author(s))
AUDIENCE:
• Compose this outline to an audience of yourself and your instructor
FORMAT:
• Write your proposal in Standard Edited English with complete sentences. Note: Review
the example on BbLearn to get an idea of how this outline should be organized and what it
should include
ASSESSMENT:
• This assignment makes up 20 of Unit 3’s 50 Process & Participation Points
