Research Essay Topic Proposal
Before we can dive into our ideas in a major project, oftentimes we are required to first propose
our actions at wait for approval to go forward. Since this unit is covering the many aspects of the
research process, you will be required to take part in this task before moving into the major
research paper in Unit 3.
For this assignment, you are to write a 400-word minimum research essay topic proposal. This is
the topic that you will write on for the research essay assignment in the next unit.
THIS ASSIGNMENT REQUIRES:
• Close attention to the requirements of a proposal, including:
o A working thesis statement
o A listing of possible research you plan to incorporate
o A statement as to why you want to explore this specific subject
o A statement as to how this topic follows the research essay assignment
FORMAT:
• Write your proposal in Standard Edited English with complete sentences. Note: Review
the example on BbLearn to get an idea of how this proposal should be organized and what
it should include
ASSESSMENT:
• This assignment is worth 20 of Unit 2’s 50 possible Process Points
APPROVAL:
• Your instructor will quickly review all research essay topic proposals and make a comment
on each via the Learner Feedback section of the Grade Center stating whether or not the
topic is approved. If your topic is not approved, you must work with your instructor to
work out an approvable topic before continuing with the major assignment. It is the
student’s responsibility to review feedback promptly and make arrangements with his or
her instructor in this process
