constructed in the Brothers and Sisters clip
through the use of camerawork, mise en
scene, editing and sound?

How to structure your answer:
• Don’t worry about an introduction, just go
straight into the scene analysis and work
through the clip in chronological order, e.g.
start with something like,
‘The clip opens with…’
How to structure your answer:
For an effective analysis, make sure you do the following as
you work through each paragraph:
• describe the technical aspects – camerawork, mise en
scene, editing, sound (denotation)
• explain the meanings created (connotations)
• discuss the significance of this in relation to the question
– i.e. what information does this part of the clip give the
audience and how does this relate to sexuality?
How to structure your answer:
To conclude, consider the overall representation of sexuality that
has been constructed. To do this you could think about the
following:
• What type of sexuality is represented?
• What version of this sexuality is being represented? E.g. what
is suggested about characters of particular sexualities (what
they are like, what are their relationships like)?
• Are the representations in any way stereotypical or do they
offer an alternative?
• Do you think the representation is positive or negative?
• Your analysis should cover at least two sides of
A4.
