RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHILOSOPHY AND EDUCATION
ADARSH SP JAMES
• Education is the process by which mature members of society
transmits into less mature members of society.
• “Experience is the best teacher”
• Mature minds reflect deeply on their experiences and this
experiences help them to reach the root of reality.
• This reflection gives birth to philosophy which is the function of
wisdom.
• Education is the active part of experience, i.e., dynamic side of
philosophy.
• Philosophy and education are like the two sides of coin.
• Philosophy and life are intimately connected.
• Philosophy – decides the goal of life.
• Individuals having similar philosophies tend to spread their ideals,
called education.
• Thus education can be considered as dynamic side of Philosophy.
• Philosophy of people – decides aims, programmes, of education of
that people.
• Philosophy – theory of education and education – it’s practice.
• Different philosophies give rise to different systems of education.
SCOPE OF EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
• Educational philosophy – philosophy applied to education.
• According to Fetch – “The art of education never attain complete
clearness in itself without Philosophy”
AIMS OF EDUCATION
• Correct values are developed in a learner
• Values developed in democracy is differend from values developed
in autocracy.
• Aims of education depends on these values and that is related to
the aim of life.
THE CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
• Total experience provided for the learner to develop his personality.
THE METHODOLOGY
• Helps the teacher to enable the learners realize the aim of
education.
TEACHER STUDENT RELATIONSHIP
• Teachers should have sound philosophy of life and education.
• Enables student to make harmonious and effective adjustment in
life.
• A teacher is like gardener.
• Take care of students.
DISCIPLINE
• Important part of education.
EVALUATION
• Integral part of process in education.
• To evaluate how far our teaching has been effective.
• Helps us to make sure whether the formulated aim has been
realised.
CONCLUSION
• Scope of educational philosophy – very important in educational
process.
• Plays important role in deciding aim and content of education.
