5) Patrimony
The local cultural heritage is determined by the traditions of
the Hungarian community, but also by the legacy of the Austrian
mine workers who came to the village centuries ago. The most
visible and particular element of this unique cultural mix is the
architecture of the houses that resembles more to Central
European villages.
The white houses have high walls with solid wooden gates, green-
colored window shutters and facades decorated with stucco
sculptures. Over half of the 300 houses of the village share these
unique architectural features, most of them being
located on the upper street that once was
occupied by the rich iron merchants.
6) Education
The town has a multisecular educational tradition. The
Unitarian School in Trascău / Torockó operated from the
beginning of the 17th century until the beginning of the 20th
century.
In the 19th century,
George Bariţ was among
the students who became
the founder of the
Romanian press in
Transylvania.
Nowadays, there is a
state education unit in the
village, that includes
primary and secondary
school.
