Biertan is a commune in central Romania known for its fortified churches. It contains one of the most important Saxon villages in Transylvania, having been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. An annual horror and fantasy film festival called "Luna Plină" is held in Biertan, making it the only Romanian film festival focused exclusively on those genres. At the heart of the village is a Gothic-style church built over 500 years ago that is surrounded by fortifications. According to sources, the village had only one divorce over the course of 300 years.
