3. LOCATION
Sirnea is a village in the county of Brasov ,
Transylvania, part of Fundata . Documentary certified in
1729 , is located in the foothills of Piatra Craiului
Mountains, at an altitude of 1360 m.
The village, old settlement of shepherds , offers a
magnificent opening to massifs Bucegi and Piatra Craiului.

4. HISTORY
The official approvals that turned Şirnea into tourist
village came in 1968. To get such title had met several
conditions . It was necessary, first, to have a geographic
location in an area with beautiful landscapes and also
quiet.
Tourists were brought to Şirnea and were first invited
to the school to see the museum and then showed them
the beauty of the village . The press wrote then that Şirnea
experiment was a success and , in 1973 , ten other villages
have received the title of tourist village.

6. TRADITIONS
SÂNZIENELE
On June 23 evening the tourists and locals go to
pick flowers in the hills of the village. It is said that
flowers picked this night , 23 to 24 June , have magical
powers . They put the flowers on the pillow at night
and then use them all year to cure certain diseases .

7. SUMEDRU’S FIRE
Another tradition, Sumedru’s Fire, is celebrated
on October 25. Around a huge funeral pyre , lit by
young people in a high place of the village and
maintained with dry wood and plant debris , gather
the entire village and they shout in chorus , known
formula "Come to Sumedru’s fire ! “. Women share
pretzels , nuts and apples . On leaving, participants
take coals to fertilize gardens and orchards .
