Mat 540 Week 4 Case Study
The explanation for the answer to the given question is as follows: Hence, the current stock
available is 180 units. To find out the probability of the company running out of the stock of 180
units within a time of next 3 weeks, let s take z as a value that should be checked in the standard
deviation table in order to find the probability... Let us first find the value of z , for which we
should know the mean demand of the period of 3 weeks: So to do this we can assume that the
demand for week one is 65 units, for week two is 50 units and for week three is 45 units. Mean
Demand of the period of 3 weeks is equal to the Sum of mean demands of per week that
is,60+55+45 = 160 Now, let us determine the standard deviation for the period of 3 weeks, as it is
mentioned in question. So, lets instead find variance of per week, and take... Show more content on

Hence, First week difference = 60 55 = 5. Second week difference = 55 45 = 10. Third week
difference = 45 60 = 15. Variance for week one is 25. Variance for week two is 100.Variance for
week three is 225. (Since square of any negative number gives us a positive number). Hence,
variance of 3 weeks is equal to the Sum variance of per week that is, 25+100+225=350 Standard
Deviation of 3 weeks is equal to the Square root of the variance of 3 weeks that is, Square root of
350 = 18.71. Now that we have the found the mean and standard deviation of 3 weeks, let s find
z value by using the formula: Z = ( total value total mean ) / standard deviation that is,Z = 180
160/18.71 = 1.07. Now we have to check the value of 1.07 in the standard deviation table, On
checking we get the value as 85.77% this is probability that the units will be sufficient for the
period of next 3 weeks, Hence, the probability of the company running out of units = 100 85.77.
Therefore, the probability of the company running out of units is

Essay about Progressivism
Progressivism implies a philosophy which welcomes innovations and reforms in the political,
economic, and social order. The Progressive movement, 1901 to 1917, was ultimately the triumph
of conservatism rather than a victory for liberalism. In a general sense, the conservative goals of
this period justified the Liberal reforms enacted by
Progressive leaders. Deviating from the traditional definition of conservatism (a resistance to
change and a disposition of hostility to innovations in the political, social, and economic order), the
Conservatist triumph was in the sense that there was an effort to maintain basic social and
economic relations vital to a capitalist society. The
Progressive leaders essentially wanted to perpetuate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1902, the United Mine Workers were willing to submit to arbitration, but the coal operators
adamantly opposed any recognition of the union. Thus, the union members decided to strike over
wages, safety conditions, and union recognition. The Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902 ended with the
appointment by Roosevelt of an arbitration commission to rule on the issues. Business men did not
regard politics (government regulation) as a necessary evil, but as an important part of their
position in society. Roosevelt did not see big business as evil, but a permanent development that
was necessary in a modern economy. Roosevelt couldn t rely on the courts to distinguish between
good or bad trusts. The only solution was for the executive to assume that responsibility.
Roosevelt s ingenious square dealings and gentlemen s agreements controlled many firms. In 1903,
a new cabinet position was created to address the concerns of business and labor (Department of
Commerce and Labor).
Within the department, the Bureau of Corporations was empowered to investigate and report on
illegal activities of corporations. The abuse of economic power by railroads proposed another
problem for Roosevelt. However, in 1903, the Elkins Act empowered the ICC (Interstate Commerce
Commission, first American federal regulatory agency) to act against

Take Away, By Jhumpa Lahiri And Pot Roast By Mark Strand
Around the world food is an international experience. It does not matter what a person s race is or
where they originated from, the culture of food is what brings people together. The diversity of
food in one s meal often brings back different memories from people s past. In the poem, Pot Roast,
by Mark Strand and the short story, Indian Takeout, by Jhumpa Lahiri both discuss about their
experience with foodand present how food is significant to their culture.
Although Lahiri s and Strand s stories might seem different because of their style of writing they
are actually similar due to their fascinating experience, appropriate use of diction, and significant
value of food.

According to Alfred Rosa, concrete diction refers to words that stimulate some kind of sensory
response in the reader (Rosa 55). The description of her father sipping on mangoes allowed the
reader to feel the sensation of tasting the oozing juice of the fruit. In addition to that, her
audience can also sense the taste of the sweet, sticky oranges Lahiri s mother ate. Lahiri used
specific diction when describing the yogurt cups and her sister s Moghlai paraths. The reader
can visualize what the author saw by describing the red clay yogurt cups and the flat bread
folded, omelet style Moghlai paraths. Lahiri s choice of words gave an amusing effect on her
readers to participate in what she sensed and felt in her story. In the poem, Pot Roast, the speaker
described his memory of his mother s pot roast through simplistic, yet descriptive, poetic versus.
Strand also provided his readers concrete and specific diction in his poem. According to Strand to
inhale the steam that rises from my plate...I remember the gravy, its odor of garlic and celery, and
sopping it up with pieces of bread (Strand 269). The speaker presented the reader a visual of the
hot steam rising from the meal. He also provided supplies his readers with the sensation he felt
when inhaling the aroma of the ingredients used in the pot roast. Although Strand s poem is quite
shorter than Lahiri s short story,

Persuasive Speech About Sleep
Wake up. Drown in knowledge for the next seven hours. Eat. Homework. Sleep. Repeat. Does
this sound like you? Wait, that s all of us! For twelve years, the seven hour day at school just
seems to get longer and longer every year. I know, graduation day is laying out at the beach
while we suffer learning about pythagorean theorem. As as much as we despise this thing called
school, there are steps to excel academically, mentally, and emotionally. I think we ve all cried at
least once over how stressful school can be. First of all, we all hear the lectures get enough sleep
to be productive the next day, by our teachers. They aren t lying to you. For instance, my close
friend has the idea that if he stays up the night before until 2:00 AM studying for his test the
same morning at 8:00 AM that he will have a better chance to score better than studying during
decent hours. Come to find out, he could hardly keep his eyes open during the two hour exam
even if he chugged a venti caramel macchiato from Starbucks. Even if you put the book under
your pillow at night, that won t work either to retain information. According to SleepFoundation,
the proper amount of sleep consists of 7 9 hours for the certain age group. Sleep is vital because
it rejuvenates our organs, especially our brain. Guess what my friend did after his test? He slept
for four hours straight. Although we are all guilty of procrastination, it cause stress for forcing our
brain to work increasingly faster and

Moving forward, being able to strongly indicate our results through use of the mean and standard
deviation is incredibly useful to show the central tendency and how the information correlates
between trials. The percentage error will also be a beneficial tool in showing how accurate and
appropriate the trial process went. This lab was also a strong introduction into using Xcel, in terms
of generating graphs and adapting to different functionalities. Although this lab felt somewhat
simulated, I felt as if it were a great starting point for setting up future labs, in terms of formatting
and depicting which information is deemed useful.
B. Results
The results of the study show the difference between five trials of one single object fall from a
constant distance. The other dependent variable in this experiment was the time in which the
object was measured (.5, .75, 1.0, 1.25 seconds). This variable serves as a checkpoint; every time
the object reaches one of these time slots, its distance in meters (the independent variable) was
measured. It is clear in every trial that the object gains momentum, and as each quarter of a second
passes, the distance the object has fallen increased exponentially. In each trial, the distance between
1.00 second and 1.25 second nearly doubled, which was much more significant than the

the arts in Italian Renaissance Essay
The Italian Renaissance was a very difficult time period in European history. The
arts were flourishing, while the city states in Italy fought bloody battles with each other
and within themselves. Bribery and murder were not uncommon tools for men to use
when they wanted power. Meanwhile those same rulers patronized the arts a great deal
and they would commission the best artistic minds of the time to build, design and paint
their palaces and churches and later on their own portraits and everyday paraphernalia.
In the beginning of Renaissance the artists, as well as the princes, were mostly
interested in religious themes, mostly from the New Testament. They all believed that if

Many people wanted to see something else around them and the elaborate pictures
told stories of Greek and Roman gods and goddesses or people s favorite pastime.
By the 16th century the profession of the artist was becoming fashionable. In the
15th century it was still unheard of the artists mingling with the powerful and the rich.
There were very few masters, who were considered brilliant, so there was practically no
competition between them. One person could paint the same monastery or church for
years, adding just a little personal variation to the story and the style of the painting. It
was becoming fashionable for an artist to not only do his work at a royal court but also be
associated with that court. Many city states claimed ownership of the brilliant minds that
worked there. Also, individualism was becoming an important aspect of people s lives.
Any individual who exhibited some sort of talent could easily find a sponsor among rich
neighbors . Mantegna was a shepherd in Padua until someone discovered him and he
became a court painter at Mantua. Monetary rewards were also very important to artists.
Rivalry between the artists challenged them to go to new and better levels and the more
money they received the harder they tried. Many artists, such as Bruneleleschi, Uccello or
Piero della Franesca started experimenting with perspective. After that many lesser
known artists started emulating them and

Nacirema Rituals
The rituals of the Nacirema culture are very unique when it comes to the different forms of beliefs
and remedies. According to the article, The fundamental belief underlying the whole system of the
Nacirema appears to be that the human body is ugly and that its natural tendency is to debility and
disease (4). With that in mind, the Nacirema have come up with a bundle of ways to keep the body
healthy and pure. Of those ways, most are included with the belief that magic is the key component
in the use of ritualand ceremony. Houses in the Nacirema culturehave shrines dedicated to the
purpose of these ritual ceremonies. Homes with one or more shrines often mean the family is

Another similarity is the region where the Nacirema live, the territory between the Canadian
Cree, the Yaqui and Tarahumare of Mexico (2). I believe that Miner was describing the location
of America. If you focus on the rituals of the Nacirema when thinking of America, many of the
practitioners are real careers people choose to have. The way Miner describes the jobs makes
you think about how awful it might sound to people from other nations who don t have these
types of occupations where they are from. Not only did Miner talk about the jobs, but he also
mentioned a place called, the latipso , which is hospital backwards without the h . He describes
this place as a temple to the Nacirema, where the sick go to die. This description sounds a whole lot
like how someone would depict a hospital. I believe Miner uses these tricky descriptions as a way
to show us the reality of what is really going on in our society. He lists several, practitioners , which
are real possible careers for one to pursue in America.
The holy mouth men are dentists. Dentists have a set of tools they use to work on your teeth and

For my first event I took a friend to a movie night hosted by the Notre Dame Student Association
and students from the Aboriginal People unit. They organised a free viewing a movie by John
Pilger called Utopia and a follow up survey. This extraordinary film gives a deep insight into the
First Australians struggles of harsh dispossession and the ongoing deaths and poverty. Pilger
puts the hard word on many members of the Australian government who are responsible for
many deaths, explorations, betrayals and breaches to Aboriginal peoples human rights. This
film was very moving and had a great impact on myself who had already studied a lot of this
content but seeing it again in a different way opened my eyes even more to the sadness and grief
suffered by Aboriginal people due to discrimination and lack of justice. As for my friend she was
greatly saddened and shocked by what she has seen. Coming from a very English background she

Australian government on this matter. The movie inspired a lengthy conversation about the
importance of righting past wrongs for Aboriginal people and spreading awareness to her family

A Comparison Between King Lear and Oedipus
King Lear Comparison
A tragedy is not only an imitation of life in general but an imitation of an action, as Aristotle
defined his ideas in the Poetics, which presents Oedipus as an ultimate tragic hero. There is a
obvious link between the two characters in that blindness both literal and metaphorical is a strong
theme in the stories.
Issues of self recognition and self knowledge are significant for Oedipus as well as King Lear. For
Aristotle, Reversal, Recognition and Suffering are key elements in a complex tragedy. The human
instinct to seek knowledge of and to know an individual s character is essential to understand their
actions (Aristotle, 1 49). King Lear and King Oedipus find that self recognition and self knowledge

Thebes high esteem for Oedipus is shown through the Chorus until the bitter end of the play. In
the beginning of the play King Oedipus is a person of vast self assurance. This character
attribute is demonstrated in his willingness to take the full responsibility for dealing with the
crisis, the plague. King Oedipus feels certain that he will also manage this crisis as he has done
before with the riddle of the sphinx. He feels so self assure that he even thinks he is able to trick
the oracle and the gods by simply fleeing Corinth. But this is a big miscalculation as the play
shows. The outline in the story of Oedipus s self discovery begins when he starts to solve the
second riddle, the riddle of Laius death. During this solving Oedipus character changes from an
honour man to a fearful, condemned man by his tragic fate in the end. The changing of the
character is accompanied by the changing of the riddle: the question Who is the murderer of
Laius? changes to Who am I? Aristotle in his Poetics discusses this reversal when he speaks of a
change of the action into the opposite (Aristotle, 18). As the tragedy moves on, finding the truth for
Oedipus becomes an obsession. The dispute between Teiresias and Oedipus demonstrates that
Oedipus does not even take the possibility of involvement in something bad into consideration.

Modern And Modern Software Project Management
Introduction Alternative approaches to management developed over the years are extremely
important to modern software project management, although new approaches are needed to deal
with some of the toughest challenges. According to experts, the popular interest in management
as a discipline and a field of study is fairly recent. But management, both as a practice and as a
field of study, has a respectable history, in many different countries, going back almost two
centuries. (Drucker 2008, p.12). Modern approaches to management were developed in the USA
after World War II which are now taught in colleges and universities. The four classic functions
about management one may learn in school are: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling
(Nelson Economy 2005, p. 5). More functions need to be added to the list of skills for acquiring in
the process of learning about project managementaspects. Project management challenges can be
viewed from a process perspective and many experts such as McFarland (1970) highlighted this
view. Management is the process by which managers create, direct, maintain and operate purposive,
organizations though systematic, coordinated, cooperative human effort (McFarland 1970, p. 5).
Because projects are transient, their delivery follows a development process, from germination of
the idea, through initiation, design and delivery, to commissioning, handover to the client and
closeout of the work. (Turner 2014, p. 5)

Organic Solvents And Nonpolar Solvents
As mentioned in the discussion, olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard were soluble in
nonpolar solvents and insoluble in polar solvents. This is due to the chemical composition of
polar and nonpolar substances which results from the molecular shape as well as properties of
dissolving solutes in solution. Polar substances are hydrophilic and contain polar Van Der Waals
interactions (intermolecular forces) such as dipole dipole forces, ion dipole forces, and hydrogen
bonding. Nonpolar substances are hydrophobic and contain non polar Van Der Waals interactions.
Like dissolve like is the reason only polar solutes dissolve in polar solvents and why nonpolar
solutes dissolve in nonpolar solvents. Molecules with similar polarity have similar intermolecular
forces and therefore, can interact with each, or in this case dissolve9. Additionally, the solubilityof a
compound is determined by the length of the hydrocarbon chain. Long hydrocarbon chains such as
the one found in oleic acid makes a compound more insoluble10. Therefore, since the lipids used in
this experiment were hydrophobic substances and each lipid has long hydrocarbon chains, the
results were consistent with the scientific literature and principles. Another factor affecting the
solubility of the olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard is the principle of hydrophobic interaction.
Hydrophobic interaction refers to when nonpolar solutes are in the presence of polar solvents,
mainly water. When this happens, the

Pricing Decisions
1.Pricing decisions
Factors to consider when setting prices All profit organizations and many non profit organizations
must set prices on their products or services. Simply defined, price is the amount of money
charged for a product or service. More broadly, price is the sum of the values consumers exchange
for the benefits of having or using the product or service.
A company s pricing decisions are affected both by internal company factors and by external
environmental factors. These factors are shown in Figure 1. Internal factors include the company s
marketing objectives, marketing mix strategy, costs, and organization. External factors include the
nature of the market and demand, competition, and other environmental factors. ... Show more

We consider ourselves the low cost producers in this industry. Considering that we are a company
with lower costs, we have decided that we can set lower prices that result in greater sales and profits.
We watch our costs carefully. We consider that if it costs our company more than competitors to
produce and sell our product, we will have to charge a higher price or make less profit, and try not
to put it at a competitive disadvan¬tage.
External Factors Affecting Pricing Decisions
The Market and Demand Costs set the lower limits of prices, while the market and demand set the
upper limit. Both consumer and industrial buyers balance the price of a product or service against
the benefits of owning it. Before setting the final price for our product we had to understand the
relationship between the price and the demand for our product. At the beginning we shall see the
people s reaction toward the Lazzzzerlight Product Machine.
Other External Factors
When setting the final price, we must also consider other factors in our external environment. For
example, economic conditions can have a strong impact on the results of our company s pricing
strategies. Economic factors such as inflation, boom or recession, and interest rates affect pricing
decisions because they affect both the costs of producing a product and consumer perceptions of
the product s price and value.

Social Anxiety Disorder And Social Disorders
When people hear the word mental disorder most times their minds are turned towards people
who are different or they automatically think of somebody pretending something is wrong. The
term social anxiety is overlooked and seen as just severe shyness. The people that view it this
way are heartless people who view mental health illnesses as diseases that are made up and
shouldn t even exist. However mental illnesses do exist and they should not be overlooked. Similar
to diabetes, Social AnxietyDisorder is a disease that is very significant and plays a huge role in
someone s health, but can often be overlooked. Nonetheless just because something isn t seen doesn
t mean that it isn t there. Social Anxiety Disorderis a mental illnesses and it needs to be recognized
that Social Anxiety Disorder isn t just extreme shyness. According to Thomas A. Richards, the
definition of Social Anxiety disorder is the fearand the anxiety of being negatively judged and
evaluated by other people (Richards). It isn t uncommon for people to feel like they are being
judged or evaluated by people. More often than not people are judging and evaluating people
they see every day. Judging by first impressions happens all day everyday and everyone has done
it. Sure enough, everyone has had these feelings at one point or another and that is why it is
often confused with just being extremely shy. However, Social Anxiety is a chronic disease and
unlike shyness it can not just be overcome. This makes the question arise of what exactly it is
that triggers someone to be susceptible to Social Anxiety Disorder. Well, there are many factors
that contribute in triggering Social Anxiety disorder. Some of which include, the overuse of
technology, they way parents raise their children, and also having been extremely embarrassed at
one point or another. According to Joseph Walsh who is an Associate Professor at the school of
Social Work says, Symptoms of the anxiety may begin in childhood (often before age five) with
another risk period just before puberty. The anxious child may demonstrate a fear of strangers as
early as seven months, and behavioral inhibitions may be observed at 21 to 31 months (Walsh). As

The Rape Of The Daughters Of Leucipus Analysis
This art piece is titled The Rape of the Daughters of Leucippus and the artist is Peter Paul
Rubins. This work was created in 1618 in what was probably Antwerp, Belgium. The socio
cultural situation during at that time and place was tense with the short 12 year truce during
Eighty Years War that resumed in 1619. This war was being fought at this time in what was
called the Low Countries (comprised of some of modern Belgium) and included Antwerp. There
were also conflicting religions with Protestants and Catholics at this time as seen with the Thirty
Years War that began in 1618. This piece is made of oil paint and was made by using a brush to
paint the oil onto the canvas.
The story being told here is about the Greek myth of two twin brothers named Pollux and Castor
who kidnapped and married the daughters of King Leucippus. Two recognizable images are
Castor, who is dressed in garb common for a horse tamer, while Pollux is completely nude. In the
image, it is clear that the two daughters are being taken away against their will by the two men
with their horses. The exact location of this event is not clear but it appears to be occurring in a
green valley of some sort where trees and hills can be seen in the background. Although the time in
which it is happening is not evident either, based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What happens to the daughters of Leucippus in this scene is incredibly tragic and yet the artwork
also predicts the tragedy that will befall the brothers. I think the other qualities could be described
as dramatic such as the awkward and flailing positions of the women that is meant to bring
attention to the piece. This work really reminds me of other traditional art pieces I have seen with
the style of the painting and the usage of darks and lights to highlight figures. I think it is very
similar to other paintings I have seen about mythical figures but this one seems to emphasize on the
roles of

Those Winter Sundays By Robert Hayden
In Class Essay #1: Those Winter Sundays
In the poem Those Winter Sunday s written by Robert Hayden, he writes about how in his
childhood, his father would generously warm the home and shine his shoes. As an adult, Hayden
finds himself regretting the lack of gratitude he had for his father s small generosities. The poem
displays a great description of the deep feelings the son has for his father and what his father
sacrificed for them. As the poem gradually progresses, the son realizes that he lacked in displaying
his love and gratitude for his father.
Robert Hayden concludes in his poem how the speaker s father would express himself in a
personal way. He was never affectionate; he just strived to make sure his familywas warm and safe.
Even after his labor demanding job, he would still take care of his family and ask for nothing in
return, allowing the narrator to realize how ungrateful he may have been made out to be towards
his father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hayden s father was a very seclu0ded man, who kept to himself. That was the way he went about
his everyday tasks. Robert Hayden did not fully appreciate and understand what his father was
doing for him due to his maturing adolescents. In the end, the father boldly brings out his
opinions and thoughts within the listed quote above. Towards the end of the poem, Hayden
clearly reveals what the poem is really all about. Throughout the poem it is portrayed as the
father just being a hard worker, yet towards the end, he is described as the man who never
received the appreciation he deserved. After reading the poem I feel as if the writer is holding
onto something that cannot be changed. The narrator needs to come to realization that what is

The Effect of Temperature Epinephrine on the Daphnia Heart Rate Lab Analysis
Introduction:
The experiment goal was to measure the effects that different water temperatures had on the
Daphnia s heart rate and the effects of epinephrine as well. Daphnia is commonly known as water
flea bugs that are small aquatic crustaceans that is found plentifully in small bodies of fresh water
(General Biology Study Guide and Lab Manual, 10th ed. 2007). These water bugs are good animals
to use for this type of experiments because they are large enough to be seen without a microscope in
light and under the microscope at twenty times magnification their internal organs can be seen
straight through their body cavity. Daphnia are ectothermic creatures, meaning ... Show more

tally counter and clicked away how many heart beats we observed and did this three times for
three trials, in between the times would give the daphnia a two minute recovery period. We then
would process the trials information and calculate an average. After the information calculated we
then multiplied our results by four to see the average heart beats per minute with room temperature
water. We gave the daphnia five minute to recover then went on to proceed with two drops of hot
water (40 degrees celsius) placed on top of the Daphnia using the pipette. Again three trials for 15
second using the tally clicker following after a two minute break. The same followed for the cold
water (0 degree celsius) placing two drops on top of the Daphnia administered by pipette. In
between the transitional water temperature trials we then cleaned up the excess water before
placing new drops of water by gently soaking up the water with kimwipes. After five minutes we
tallied the heartbeats of the Daphnia before administering the epinephrine. Then again gently gave
two doses of epinephrine using a new pipette. Then after we observed and tallying the heart beats
before administering the epinephrine, three times again recording our results then averaging it.
Then we placed two drops of the epinephrine on top of the daphnia, tallying the heartbeats and
recording and calculating our trial results. Then after two minutes we observed and tallied the
effects after the epinephrine had been used. Each trial again consisted of observation under the
microscope, tallying and observing the behavior internally and externally of the

Adoptive Parents
The purpose of this article is to describe different perspectives from adoptive parents, about their
adoption experiences when receiving services from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoptive s
Wendy Wonderful kids (WWK), adoption recruitment program. Now one question that you may be
asking yourself is, what does the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoptive Wendy Wonderful kids
foundation actually provide for a prospective adoptive parent. The main goal of the foundation is to
not only facilitate an appropriate match between a child in the foster care and a permanent family,

prospective adoptive families experience doing their process? Some of the positive experiences
that the prospective adoptive parents had was having a recruiter who was down to earth, giving
emotional support, which included pep talks, being and expressing empathy towards the parents,
and proving a positive outlook to a situation (Ellis, 2011, page 4). Some of them even express

The Effects of Domestic Violence on Child Behavior The United States Department of Health
and Human Services found parents and other caretakers mistreat 900,000 children in the case of
child abuse (as cited in Moylan et al., 2010). Children can be abused directly or indirectly.
Indirect abuse can be exposure to violence enacted by the mother or father towards each other
(Baldry, 2007). As for direct abuse, this can include physical, sexual or psychological abusedone

Sternberg et al., (1993) found that there is some evidence that children who are victims and/or
witnesses of domestic violence have more social and emotional problems than their non abused .
Some children can be shy and stay way from adults and other children. They can be physically
abused and feel that because their parents hurt them other adults can hurt them also. Other children
exposed to abuse might take out the abuse on other children. They start bullying children in the
neighborhood or children in their classroom. Some children might feel that because they see
violence at home that it is all right for them to so violence in other setting. Bulling is a big issue
in schools. It does not mean that bullies come from domestic homes, but it s might be one of the
reasons. Another way a child might act out due to abuse is getting in trouble with the law. They
might start hanging out with the wrong group of people and doing things that is frowned upon by
authorities. They do not care about what happens to them and do what their friends think is all
right. They release their behavior with violence. They become short tempered and argue or fight

Samuel Langhorne Clemens Research Paper
Samuel Langhorne Clemens (a.k.a. Mark Twain) was an American author, who wrote during the
Realism period, popularly known for his most famous work The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. In
many of his works, we see the realities of this era, how times had a massive difference between

Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835; sadly, he passed away, at the age

Hannibal, a large town located near the Mississippi River, where he witnessed various violent

Italian Unification Essay
During the 18th century, intellectual changes began to dismantle traditional values and institutions.
Liberal ideas from France and Britain spread rapidly, and from 1789 the French Revolution
became the genesis of liberal Italians . A series of political and military events resulted in a unified
kingdom of Italyin 1861. The settlements reached in 1815 at the Vienna Congress had restored
Austrian domination over the Italian peninsula but had left Italy completely fragmented . The
Congress had divided the territory among a number of European nations and the victors of the
Napoleonic Wars. The Kingdom of Sardinia recovered Piedmont (Piemonte), Nice, and Savoy and

The wars of unification were an important stage in the development of Europe. The modern world
was shaped back then by the revolutionaries of this time period. The strong leaders; Bismarck,
Guiseppe Garibaldi, and Camillo Cavour led their countries to a great thing, unification.
Giuseppe Mazzini, an Italian patriot spearheaded a national revolutionary movement. Mazzini s
ideology of an independent integrated republic spread quickly among large segments of the Italian
people. Revolutionary cells formed throughout the Italian peninsula.
Massive reforms that took place during the 1840s in the Papal States, Lucca, Tuscany, and the
Kingdom of Sardinia were intended to slow the revolutionary movements, instead these reforms
(1846 and 1847) only intensified the resolve of the revolutionary cells culminating in the
Revolutions of 1848, that spread to Germany, the Austrian Empire, France, and parts of northern
Italy.
The first revolution on the Italian peninsula took place in the Kingdom of Sicily, which resulted in
a constitution for the whole kingdom. An insurrection in 1848 caused pope Pius IX to flee Rome
and a republic was proclaimed. King Charles Albert of Sardinia mobilized his army and marched
to the assistance of Lombardy and joined in the war to drive the Austrians from Italian soil.
While it initially looked as if the independence and unity of Italy was a realistic possibility, the
Austrians defeated the Piedmontese and Charles Albert had to abdicate.

Tradeoffs Between Relational and Object-Oriented Database...
Discuss the tradeoffs between relational and object oriented database management systems
1) Stating Position
The object oriented DBMS is superior to the relational database on some specific counts,
primarily because it can satisfy the complex demands of the market today better than the any
other. Secondly while the relational data base stores data as tables, the object model stores data as
objects and creates associations. This can create a multiple set of attributes for each object such
that the data base is more flexible to the requirements that may be housed for different sets of data
having both similar and dissimilar characteristics. The paradigms then are developed for each set of
common characteristics and unique characteristics of the objects which is not possible in a
relational database that has a very rigid structure. (Bruegge, 2004)
Earlier the heterogeneous systems integration is a major issue. Therefore it has to be considered if
the system proposed is amenable to multiple platforms and will give the same results. There are
many applications available to enforce this, but it is to be borne in mind that in a data management
system many components have to be integrated with the system and the layering of these
components becomes critical. (Thuraisingham, 2001) But the requirements today have gone
beyond the traditional DBMS and the system is expected too seamlessly perform varied functions
like tracking functions, data analysis and reporting, vendor

Forecasting Methods
Genius forecasting This method is based on a combination of intuition, insight, and luck. Psychics
and crystal ball readers are the most extreme case of genius forecasting. Their forecasts are based
exclusively on intuition. Science fiction writers have sometimes described new technologies with
uncanny accuracy. There are many examples where men and women have been remarkable
successful at predicting the future. There are also many examples of wrong forecasts. The
weakness in genius forecasting is that its impossible to recognize a good forecast until the forecast
has come to pass. Some psychic individuals are capable of producing consistently accurate
forecasts. Mainstream ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each is an expert in his own discipline, and it is through the synthesis of these opinions that a
final forecast is obtained. One method of arriving at a consensus forecast would be to put all the
experts in a room and let them argue it out . This method falls short because the situation is often
controlled by those individuals that have the best group interaction and persuasion skills. A better
method is known as the Delphi technique. This method seeks to rectify the problems of face to
face confrontation in the group, so the responses and respondents remain anonymous. The

The Mysterious Arthur Conan Doyle
The Mysterious Arthur Conan Doyle Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was one of the most popular if not
the most iconic detective writer of his time. He wrote pieces such as The Speckled Band and The
Final Problem that sparked interest in one of the most popular detectives in history. The popularity
for Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmeshas lasted for generations and is why he is recognized as one
of the greatest detective writers of all time. Sir Arthur Conan Doyleadheres to the established
principles of Good Detective Stories, and that is why his stories are so successful and enduring.

160). When they arrive, it is soon clear to Holmes what is going on, and it does not take him
long to figure out who is behind it. That very night Holmes runs Julia s and Helen s potential
killer back up the rope and back to its master, Roylott, where it then kills him instead (Doyle,
1994, p. 171). Doyle makes the crime significant to the reader because it involves a young
woman who is in danger of losing her life if someone does come and save her, and he makes it
memorable too because it is significant that Helen s own stepfather Roylott would be trying to
murder her.
The Man with the Twisted Lip Doyle in The Man with the Twisted Lip describes to the readers a
crime spoken of by Holmes of a man named Neville St. Clair who has went missing without a
trace. The reader learns of no body being found, and leads some to suspect that Neville St. Clair
might not even be dead. This was the start of modern day cold cases. If you do not have a body it
is kind of hard to start an investigation. However, Holmes does what he can and makes the case
interesting. Sherlock Holmes states, there were no signs of violence upon any of these
garments, and there were no traces of Mr. Neville St. Clair (Doyle, 1994, p. 120). These
garments Holmes speaks of belong to Mr. Neville St. Clair, but there are no signs of violence
towards him as saw by the state of his clothes. This then furthers the significance of the crime
because at first it seems to be a murder case, but

Reflection About Hunting
Hunting has dated back to ancient times when there were massive sheets of ice covering the
planet, and yet, all of the evolving the human race has done, it is still a crucial part of some
people s everyday life. It has been a family tradition for dads to take their sons into the woods,
and teach them the ways of stalking your prey, and finally killing it. On my eighth birthday, I
woke up to my dad dressed in a camouflage top holding onto a bowand arrowand a massive white
target standing at his feet. His first words were we are going to have fun today . I instantly thought
that that day I was going to be killing my first animal, but to my dismay, it turned out that blood
was not shed for three years.
I loved that bow and arrow, and I can remember everyday after school I would go to the garage
and shoot that bow to the point where I couldn t manage to draw it back. After about month, I
had lost hope in killing anything with that bow because I was not able to shoot it straight. There
was a time that I was shooting in the garage at a target, and the arrow slipped out of my hand,
and it had managed to hit a bottle of lighter fluid. Granted I there was not enough force behind the
arrow to push it the entire way through the can, but it was enough to spill the lighter fluid all over
my foam target. I was no longer to use my bow and arrow unsupervised.
Years later, my dad decided to take me to the gun range. He had brought the gun that his father had
taught him how to shoot

U.s. Nsa Program On Surveillance
Over the last several years, cyber attacks have been continually rising. This is in response to
emerging threats from rogue nations and terrorist groups. They are increasing their attacks on
government, military and civilian installations. According to James Clapper (the Director of
National Intelligence) these threats have become so severe. It is surpassing terrorismas the greatest
challenge facing the nation. In response, the National Security Agency (NSA) began conducting
surveillance on those who are involved in these activities and others which are threat to US
national security interests. This program became so broad; it started continually collecting phone
records and emails on ordinary Americans. This angered many, who felt that the US was acting in
a way that circumvented established legal guidelines and procedures. To fully understand what is
taking place requires focusing on the event, the government s response and the ways it did / did
not meet our national security goals. Together, these different elements will illustrate what occurred
and the lasting impacts on everyone. (Greenwald 2014) The NSA program on surveillance began
in 2001. This is when Congress authorized government officials to listen in on the phone calls and
emails of those individuals suspected of engaging in terrorist activities (via the USA Patriot Act). It
is designed to ensure that the intelligence community and law enforcement have the tools they need
to track / monitor those suspected

Voting System In America
Over seventy years ago, Joseph Stalin, leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, made a
remark about the democratic voting system in the United States. He stated, ...it is completely
unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this who
will count the votes, and how. Joseph Stalin, who once was a totalitarian dictator, was able to see
the loopholes in our democratic electionprocess that the American people never addressed, or they
simply ignored. An American s vote no longer matters in the way that it used to; In fact, this is
no longer an area of black and white, instead it has changed to an obscure gray field that shadows
over all Americans. The prestigious land of the United States, where democracy has been held up
for over two centuries, is no longer upholding the belief of one man one vote. Instead, it has
allowed the 528 votes of the Electoral Collegeto run rampant and impede on the founding beliefs
that all Americans hold dear. Our votingprocess, with the Electoral College in charge, no longer
speaks for the majority of the people in the United States of America.... Show more content on

their ideas related to those of their candidate. But today, there are several ways for Americans to
learn about the candidates. We have television, radio, the internet, newspapers, word of mouth,
and several other methods to get the word out. Because of the sources that we now hold, the vote
for the presidency should be based completely off of the popular vote, and the Electoral College
should be abolished. The Electoral College has become useless in their job, and needs to relinquish

Comparing Witchcraft And Wicca Religion
As time moves forward many ideas and concepts move forward with it. Wicca and Witchcraft
then, and now, are seen through a new light. There was a dark cloud covering the topic of
witchcraft for centuries. This dark cloud has lifted and we are able to understand with a scientific
mind why there was a dark area in history covering Witchcraft. Witchcraft and Wiccaare not the
same thing, contrary to what many people believe. Wicca is the religion, and some, but not all
Wiccans practice witchcraft.
Witchcraft and Wicca is also referred to as Old Religion. This is because it takes place during a
time where Pagan practices were still large. [citation7]. In previous centuries if someone were to be

Many people associate witches with bad stereotypes. Stereotypes have developed throughout the
centuries and have stuck around to this day. Witches are ugly, old, have warts, ride around on
broomsticks, Or, witches are seductive, beautiful, tricky, alluring and can turn into black cats.
Every single stereotype has an origin that originates from somewhere. Just because there are
stereotypes associated with a certain religion, does not always mean that it is true. There is a great
deal more to Wicca and witchcraft than meets the eye. It is only after you scratch the surface do
you see what lies beneath. People think of hexes, potions and cauldron when thinking about
witches. Society has taught us to associate witches with these stereotypes. Not all of these

I Am A Native Staten Islander
I am a native Staten Islander. Both my parents and set of grandparents were born on Staten Island
as well, so it s no surprise I was too. Much of my family lives on Staten Island and my whole
childhood memories and reflections are all based off being Staten Island. I do appreciate the
childhood memories I have as well as some of the people I have met, but I have mixed feelings
overall about where I am from and most days I do not like it. I definitely agree it has both it s pro s
and con s at times.
As much as I hate to admit it, there are things I enjoy about Staten Island. Most of these things
come from believe it or not, the few tourist attractions Staten Island is home of. The architecture
on Staten Island isn t bad. I think the Verazzano Narrows bridge speaks volume when it comes to
that, which connects from Staten Island to Long Island and is visible from a spot in all 5
boroughs. My personal favorite starts with the Historic Richmond Town which was founded as the
Staten Island Historical Society in 1856. The museum s focus creates opportunities for the public
to explore the diversity of the American experience from the colonial period to the present.
Richmond town is 100 acres consisting of 28 historic buildings dating from the late 17th to early
20th centuries, half still standing at their original locations which makes the experience visiting
overall more realistic and interesting. Another reason I like Staten Island is because of Fort

Factors Going Into The Afghan War
Introduction
Conflicts exist in all sizes. There are conflicts between neighbors about trees, there are conflicts
between children about toys, there are conflicts between politicians about opinions, and there are
conflicts between nations. A conflict, in essence, is a disagreement. Conflicts vary. Some are like
the China/Norway conflict after a Chinese criminal got the Nobel Peace Prize thanks to his fight
for democracy. China boycotts Norway in trading, while Norway doesn t see the problem as the
Nobel Committee is independent and not controlled by the state. Other conflicts are more serious,
like the one between the U.S. and Afghanistan (Taliban). After 9/11, USA entered Afghanistan to
find Osama bin Laden, whom Taliban was protecting.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tensions begin
In September 2001, nearly 3000 were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The man behind was said
to be Osama Bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and there was major international pressure on
Afghan leaders to hand over Bin Laden. When Afghanistan refused, the U.S. decided to use armed
forces, and in October they initiated aerial attacks, targeting al Quaeda fighters as well as the
Taliban. In November 2001 the Taliban were overthrown by the Northern Alliance, an Afghan
fighter group, with the aid and support of the U.S., as well as other countries including the United
Kingdom, and the Northern Alliance gained control over Kabul.
Current Situation
Twelve years later, Afghanistan remains a dangerous place, and British, as well as other countries
troops are still present in Afghanistan, fighting the Taliban, who continue to carry out surprise
attacks, causing deaths amongst both armed forces and civilians. Afghanistan is torn by chronic
instability; after being subject to decades of conflict its economy and infrastructure is in ruins,
many Afghans are refugees, and the government struggles to extend authority beyond the capital,
and there is little sense of national unity.
Parties Involved
In the Afghanistan war, the two main involved parts are the Taliban and the NATO countries. The
Taliban had been ruling Afghanistan for several years, and they did not want to just give their
power to the intruders. Their goal is

introduced by Michal Depa and Sidhant Jena.
AINA, a device that turns a smartphone into a blood analyzer. Using a drop of blood from a finger
prick, this device can run five tests, including the HbA1C, which is used to diagnose diabetes and
is usually done in a lab using blood drawn from a vein.
This product is not only for educated people who have complete access to doctor but to reach the
under diagnosed poor, the device is available with android and IOS app for smartphones that can be
used by doctors, clinics and government hospitals.
The test reports from the patient are aggregated in one place for doctor evaluation, wherein in very
less time doctor can reach to thousands, also the application can continuously remind patient with

Arthur considers male s the dominant sex, they have to go to work, they have to lay down the laws

Morality vs. The rule of Law The article When Mercy Collides with The Law is a very

regulations . Greg Schiller, 53, had set up a shelter for the homeless during the recent cold spells,
allowing them to stay the night when it dropped below negative 15. He provided cots and hot
food and drink for them. The city of Elgin shut him down because his basement didn t meet certain
safety requirements. The side I would choose in this dispute is the side of Schiller, although I can
see the point of the city council. I think that he has the right to provide for disadvantaged

For example, some people argue that Bond is perceived as the anti hero. This interpretation would
make sense because some people believe that Bond lacks conventional heroic attributes. He often
uses fancy weapons, like a handgun that recognizes his palm print, and different specialized
methods of transportation. In addition, his character, often drinking, sexualized, and in the
beginning weak, is seen as having non heroic characteristics. However, this view is ultimately
weakened by not acknowledging the validity of Campbell s research on the hero journey. The
journey begins when the hero receives the call. This call is represented in the movie by Bond
witnessing the attack on MI6 on the newscast, he then returns to Britain to begin his mission. The
call removes the hero from their typical environment, for Bond was life on the beach, to complete
their quest. This argument is supported by Lynnette Porter, who explains that often in literature into
a troubled time comes a call to action, to change, to adventure, perhaps to heroism. The potential
hero hears this call and decides to answer, this reflects the exact moment Bond received his call
while spending all night at the bar (110). This call inevitably starts Bond on his hero journey.
Although in the beginning Bond may not present the characteristics of a hero, he follows the hero s
journey throughout the plot and proves to be a heroic

Puerto Rican Political Parties
As a child growing up in Puerto Rico I attended many political campaigns with my father. He was
the true meaning of the word fanatic when it came to politics and he had been a politician at an
earlier time in his life also. He believed with every fiber in his body that Puerto Rico should
become the fifty first state of the United States. My father passed away not seen his dream come
true.
In Puerto Rico, political parties are associated to the three status choices. There is the New
Progressive Party that supports statehood, also the Popular Democratic Party for the
commonwealth status and the Puerto Rican Independence Party that prefers as it s name state,
independence. These three ideals have painted the landscape of the island s political history with

The multiple regression equation looks like this: y = b1x1 + b2x2 + ... + bnxn + c The b s stand
for the regression coefficient for the corresponding x, or independent variables. C is the constant,
or the y intercept and e is the error reflected in the residuals. This is a main effect model. In this
case we are looking at the interaction effect on the dependent variable. In short, this is important
because through this model, we can see how a second or third independent variable effects the
relationship between the first independent variable and the dependent variable. For example, we
may see that the relationship between income and likelihood of being the victim of a violent crime
is moderated by education level attained by the victim. There can be many variables within the
variables. The researchers obviously did not take an exact count of every crime in the United
States. Rather, they sampled the population. In order to make sure the sample is true to the rest of
the population, confidences must be set. These are the formulas for testing differences in
percentages or rates of a single response variable with the same base. The formula calculates

Rising Cost Of California Essay
The Rising Cost of Tuition in California State Universities
The cost of tuition for California State Universities has skyrocketed over the last 10 years. It has
forced many students to take out expensive student loans to complete their educational goals, often
times leaving graduating college students steep in debt as they enter the workforce. Some of the
contributing factors that I am going to address are inflation, the rising cost of living and the varying
costs of different educational institutions
Webster s dictionary defines inflation: as a continuing rise in the general price level usually
attributed to an increase in the volume of money and credit relative to available goods and
services. During the last 10 years we have seen and felt the effects of inflation. Services and goods
have gone up in price, but the minimum wage for most Californians stayed the same for a number
of years. Inflation is a key factor that has affected tuition costs in most universities and has helped
contribute to the steady rise. Public and private schools each typically have their own college
inflation rate, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inflation definitely has played a role and will continue to do so in the future as the economy
changes and adapts. It is clear that in the last ten years tuition cost spiked and in some areas
doubled. The cost of living was also a contributing factor for the spiked tuition costs. California
Universities are amongst some of the best in the nation, but they come with a price tag that
unfortunately many cannot afford. Finally the varying universities and the quality of the programs
often dictate the costs. This was clear in the comparison between Fresno State and California
Polytechnic State. Both offer quality education in specific fields for the right price. As some would
say, A good education is not cheap, and a cheap education is not

Rav Kook s revolutionary approach was to open up the constructs of Halacha to allow for a

prism of Halacha, it was Rav Kook that enlarged the boundaries of Halacha to include Zionism.
That is why Rav Kook had a picture of Herzl hung in his office and considered him as a modern
Moses, even though Herzl was a secular jew that had Christmas trees in his home. Rav Kook s
revolutionary approach to the Halacha was not to look at the religion soley from the perspective
of that man is passive and only god is active. By creating the bridge between Zionism to religion,
he merited religious jews the freedom to act and engage in history and not waiting for god to act.
He was instrumental in allowing religious Zionism to become active participants in their own
destiny, as he stated The people of Israelare not a nation in the normal sense of the term, but

Is Loki Of The Most Dominant Characteristics Of An Entire...
One of the most dominant characteristics in any villain is a craving for destruction, whether it is
the annihilation of a specific hero or of an entire world. Occasionally, however, the heel possesses
a quality that contradicts this nefarious tendency. Rarely does a story include an evildoer whose
actions end up benefitting those around him. This doer of good and... doer of evil ( Far Away and
Long Ago 1) is Lokiof Norse mythology. While some of Loki s actions qualify as heinous, many of
those who read of his misgivings are too quick to criticize the undervalued deity. This harsh
judgment has spun into a popular culture that paints a misconstrued image of Loki in film.
Although interpreted by modern media as inherently evil, the Norse god Loki is simply a
misunderstood mischief maker who helps on his own accord, corrects his misdeeds, and ultimately
causes the dawn of modern man.
Before digging into his misdeeds, noting Loki s pure benevolence is essential. Atop a mountain,
the gods built the city Asgard, a great City... that the Giants could never overthrow (Colum 6). As
they built their great city, the gods were approached by a giant. Although the giant could not help
build the halls or palaces of Asgard, [he could] build great walls that [could] never be overthrown

  • 3. Mat 540 Week 4 Case Study The explanation for the answer to the given question is as follows: Hence, the current stock available is 180 units. To find out the probability of the company running out of the stock of 180 units within a time of next 3 weeks, let s take z as a value that should be checked in the standard deviation table in order to find the probability... Let us first find the value of z , for which we should know the mean demand of the period of 3 weeks: So to do this we can assume that the demand for week one is 65 units, for week two is 50 units and for week three is 45 units. Mean Demand of the period of 3 weeks is equal to the Sum of mean demands of per week that is,60+55+45 = 160 Now, let us determine the standard deviation for the period of 3 weeks, as it is mentioned in question. So, lets instead find variance of per week, and take... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, First week difference = 60 55 = 5. Second week difference = 55 45 = 10. Third week difference = 45 60 = 15. Variance for week one is 25. Variance for week two is 100.Variance for week three is 225. (Since square of any negative number gives us a positive number). Hence, variance of 3 weeks is equal to the Sum variance of per week that is, 25+100+225=350 Standard Deviation of 3 weeks is equal to the Square root of the variance of 3 weeks that is, Square root of 350 = 18.71. Now that we have the found the mean and standard deviation of 3 weeks, let s find z value by using the formula: Z = ( total value total mean ) / standard deviation that is,Z = 180 160/18.71 = 1.07. Now we have to check the value of 1.07 in the standard deviation table, On checking we get the value as 85.77% this is probability that the units will be sufficient for the period of next 3 weeks, Hence, the probability of the company running out of units = 100 85.77. Therefore, the probability of the company running out of units is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay about Progressivism Progressivism implies a philosophy which welcomes innovations and reforms in the political, economic, and social order. The Progressive movement, 1901 to 1917, was ultimately the triumph of conservatism rather than a victory for liberalism. In a general sense, the conservative goals of this period justified the Liberal reforms enacted by Progressive leaders. Deviating from the traditional definition of conservatism (a resistance to change and a disposition of hostility to innovations in the political, social, and economic order), the Conservatist triumph was in the sense that there was an effort to maintain basic social and economic relations vital to a capitalist society. The Progressive leaders essentially wanted to perpetuate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1902, the United Mine Workers were willing to submit to arbitration, but the coal operators adamantly opposed any recognition of the union. Thus, the union members decided to strike over wages, safety conditions, and union recognition. The Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902 ended with the appointment by Roosevelt of an arbitration commission to rule on the issues. Business men did not regard politics (government regulation) as a necessary evil, but as an important part of their position in society. Roosevelt did not see big business as evil, but a permanent development that was necessary in a modern economy. Roosevelt couldn t rely on the courts to distinguish between good or bad trusts. The only solution was for the executive to assume that responsibility. Roosevelt s ingenious square dealings and gentlemen s agreements controlled many firms. In 1903, a new cabinet position was created to address the concerns of business and labor (Department of Commerce and Labor). Within the department, the Bureau of Corporations was empowered to investigate and report on illegal activities of corporations. The abuse of economic power by railroads proposed another problem for Roosevelt. However, in 1903, the Elkins Act empowered the ICC (Interstate Commerce Commission, first American federal regulatory agency) to act against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Take Away, By Jhumpa Lahiri And Pot Roast By Mark Strand Around the world food is an international experience. It does not matter what a person s race is or where they originated from, the culture of food is what brings people together. The diversity of food in one s meal often brings back different memories from people s past. In the poem, Pot Roast, by Mark Strand and the short story, Indian Takeout, by Jhumpa Lahiri both discuss about their experience with foodand present how food is significant to their culture. Although Lahiri s and Strand s stories might seem different because of their style of writing they are actually similar due to their fascinating experience, appropriate use of diction, and significant value of food. According to Alfred Rosa, concrete diction refers to words that stimulate some kind of sensory response in the reader (Rosa 55). The description of her father sipping on mangoes allowed the reader to feel the sensation of tasting the oozing juice of the fruit. In addition to that, her audience can also sense the taste of the sweet, sticky oranges Lahiri s mother ate. Lahiri used specific diction when describing the yogurt cups and her sister s Moghlai paraths. The reader can visualize what the author saw by describing the red clay yogurt cups and the flat bread folded, omelet style Moghlai paraths. Lahiri s choice of words gave an amusing effect on her readers to participate in what she sensed and felt in her story. In the poem, Pot Roast, the speaker described his memory of his mother s pot roast through simplistic, yet descriptive, poetic versus. Strand also provided his readers concrete and specific diction in his poem. According to Strand to inhale the steam that rises from my plate...I remember the gravy, its odor of garlic and celery, and sopping it up with pieces of bread (Strand 269). The speaker presented the reader a visual of the hot steam rising from the meal. He also provided supplies his readers with the sensation he felt when inhaling the aroma of the ingredients used in the pot roast. • 8. Persuasive Speech About Sleep Wake up. Drown in knowledge for the next seven hours. Eat. Homework. Sleep. Repeat. Does this sound like you? Wait, that s all of us! For twelve years, the seven hour day at school just seems to get longer and longer every year. I know, graduation day is laying out at the beach while we suffer learning about pythagorean theorem. As as much as we despise this thing called school, there are steps to excel academically, mentally, and emotionally. I think we ve all cried at least once over how stressful school can be. First of all, we all hear the lectures get enough sleep to be productive the next day, by our teachers. They aren t lying to you. For instance, my close friend has the idea that if he stays up the night before until 2:00 AM studying for his test the same morning at 8:00 AM that he will have a better chance to score better than studying during decent hours. Although this lab felt somewhat simulated, I felt as if it were a great starting point for setting up future labs, in terms of formatting and depicting which information is deemed useful. B. Results The results of the study show the difference between five trials of one single object fall from a constant distance. The other dependent variable in this experiment was the time in which the object was measured (.5, .75, 1.0, 1.25 seconds). This variable serves as a checkpoint; every time the object reaches one of these time slots, its distance in meters (the independent variable) was measured. It is clear in every trial that the object gains momentum, and as each quarter of a second passes, the distance the object has fallen increased exponentially. In each trial, the distance between 1.00 second and 1.25 second nearly doubled, which was much more significant than the

The arts were flourishing, while the city states in Italy fought bloody battles with each other and within themselves. Bribery and murder were not uncommon tools for men to use when they wanted power. Meanwhile those same rulers patronized the arts a great deal and they would commission the best artistic minds of the time to build, design and paint their palaces and churches and later on their own portraits and everyday paraphernalia. There were very few masters, who were considered brilliant, so there was practically no competition between them. One person could paint the same monastery or church for years, adding just a little personal variation to the story and the style of the painting. It was becoming fashionable for an artist to not only do his work at a royal court but also be associated with that court. Many city states claimed ownership of the brilliant minds that worked there. • 16. A Comparison Between King Lear and Oedipus King Lear Comparison A tragedy is not only an imitation of life in general but an imitation of an action, as Aristotle defined his ideas in the Poetics, which presents Oedipus as an ultimate tragic hero. There is a obvious link between the two characters in that blindness both literal and metaphorical is a strong theme in the stories. Issues of self recognition and self knowledge are significant for Oedipus as well as King Lear. For Aristotle, Reversal, Recognition and Suffering are key elements in a complex tragedy. The human instinct to seek knowledge of and to know an individual s character is essential to understand their actions (Aristotle, 1 49). King Lear and King Oedipus find that self recognition and self knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thebes high esteem for Oedipus is shown through the Chorus until the bitter end of the play. In the beginning of the play King Oedipus is a person of vast self assurance. This character attribute is demonstrated in his willingness to take the full responsibility for dealing with the crisis, the plague. King Oedipus feels certain that he will also manage this crisis as he has done before with the riddle of the sphinx. He feels so self assure that he even thinks he is able to trick the oracle and the gods by simply fleeing Corinth. But this is a big miscalculation as the play shows. The outline in the story of Oedipus s self discovery begins when he starts to solve the second riddle, the riddle of Laius death. During this solving Oedipus character changes from an honour man to a fearful, condemned man by his tragic fate in the end. The changing of the character is accompanied by the changing of the riddle: the question Who is the murderer of Laius? changes to Who am I? Aristotle in his Poetics discusses this reversal when he speaks of a change of the action into the opposite (Aristotle, 18). As the tragedy moves on, finding the truth for Oedipus becomes an obsession. The dispute between Teiresias and Oedipus demonstrates that Oedipus does not even take the possibility of involvement in something bad into consideration. Teiresias, after he has been provoked, ... • 17. Modern And Modern Software Project Management Introduction Alternative approaches to management developed over the years are extremely important to modern software project management, although new approaches are needed to deal with some of the toughest challenges. According to experts, the popular interest in management as a discipline and a field of study is fairly recent. But management, both as a practice and as a field of study, has a respectable history, in many different countries, going back almost two centuries. (Drucker 2008, p.12). Modern approaches to management were developed in the USA after World War II which are now taught in colleges and universities. The four classic functions about management one may learn in school are: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Nelson Economy 2005, p. 5). More functions need to be added to the list of skills for acquiring in the process of learning about project managementaspects. Project management challenges can be viewed from a process perspective and many experts such as McFarland (1970) highlighted this view. Management is the process by which managers create, direct, maintain and operate purposive, organizations though systematic, coordinated, cooperative human effort (McFarland 1970, p. 5). Because projects are transient, their delivery follows a development process, from germination of the idea, through initiation, design and delivery, to commissioning, handover to the client and closeout of the work. • 18. Organic Solvents And Nonpolar Solvents As mentioned in the discussion, olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard were soluble in nonpolar solvents and insoluble in polar solvents. This is due to the chemical composition of polar and nonpolar substances which results from the molecular shape as well as properties of dissolving solutes in solution. Polar substances are hydrophilic and contain polar Van Der Waals interactions (intermolecular forces) such as dipole dipole forces, ion dipole forces, and hydrogen bonding. Nonpolar substances are hydrophobic and contain non polar Van Der Waals interactions. Like dissolve like is the reason only polar solutes dissolve in polar solvents and why nonpolar solutes dissolve in nonpolar solvents. Molecules with similar polarity have similar intermolecular forces and therefore, can interact with each, or in this case dissolve9. Additionally, the solubilityof a compound is determined by the length of the hydrocarbon chain. Long hydrocarbon chains such as the one found in oleic acid makes a compound more insoluble10. Therefore, since the lipids used in this experiment were hydrophobic substances and each lipid has long hydrocarbon chains, the results were consistent with the scientific literature and principles. Another factor affecting the solubility of the olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard is the principle of hydrophobic interaction. Hydrophobic interaction refers to when nonpolar solutes are in the presence of polar solvents, mainly water. When this happens, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A company s pricing decisions are affected both by internal company factors and by external environmental factors. These factors are shown in Figure 1. We consider ourselves the low cost producers in this industry. Considering that we are a company with lower costs, we have decided that we can set lower prices that result in greater sales and profits. We watch our costs carefully. External Factors Affecting Pricing Decisions The Market and Demand Costs set the lower limits of prices, while the market and demand set the upper limit. Both consumer and industrial buyers balance the price of a product or service against the benefits of owning it. • 20. Social Anxiety Disorder And Social Disorders When people hear the word mental disorder most times their minds are turned towards people who are different or they automatically think of somebody pretending something is wrong. The term social anxiety is overlooked and seen as just severe shyness. The people that view it this way are heartless people who view mental health illnesses as diseases that are made up and shouldn t even exist. However mental illnesses do exist and they should not be overlooked. Similar to diabetes, Social AnxietyDisorder is a disease that is very significant and plays a huge role in someone s health, but can often be overlooked. Nonetheless just because something isn t seen doesn t mean that it isn t there. Social Anxiety Disorderis a mental illnesses and it needs to be recognized that Social Anxiety Disorder isn t just extreme shyness. According to Thomas A. Richards, the definition of Social Anxiety disorder is the fearand the anxiety of being negatively judged and evaluated by other people (Richards). It isn t uncommon for people to feel like they are being judged or evaluated by people. More often than not people are judging and evaluating people they see every day. Judging by first impressions happens all day everyday and everyone has done it. Sure enough, everyone has had these feelings at one point or another and that is why it is often confused with just being extremely shy. However, Social Anxiety is a chronic disease and unlike shyness it can not just be overcome. This makes the question arise of what exactly it is that triggers someone to be susceptible to Social Anxiety Disorder. Well, there are many factors that contribute in triggering Social Anxiety disorder. Some of which include, the overuse of technology, they way parents raise their children, and also having been extremely embarrassed at one point or another. According to Joseph Walsh who is an Associate Professor at the school of Social Work says, Symptoms of the anxiety may begin in childhood (often before age five) with another risk period just before puberty. This work was created in 1618 in what was probably Antwerp, Belgium. This war was being fought at this time in what was called the Low Countries (comprised of some of modern Belgium) and included Antwerp. There were also conflicting religions with Protestants and Catholics at this time as seen with the Thirty Years War that began in 1618. This piece is made of oil paint and was made by using a brush to paint the oil onto the canvas. The story being told here is about the Greek myth of two twin brothers named Pollux and Castor who kidnapped and married the daughters of King Leucippus. Two recognizable images are Castor, who is dressed in garb common for a horse tamer, while Pollux is completely nude. In the image, it is clear that the two daughters are being taken away against their will by the two men with their horses. The strong leaders; Bismarck, Guiseppe Garibaldi, and Camillo Cavour led their countries to a great thing, unification. Giuseppe Mazzini, an Italian patriot spearheaded a national revolutionary movement. Mazzini s ideology of an independent integrated republic spread quickly among large segments of the Italian people. Revolutionary cells formed throughout the Italian peninsula. Massive reforms that took place during the 1840s in the Papal States, Lucca, Tuscany, and the Kingdom of Sardinia were intended to slow the revolutionary movements, instead these reforms (1846 and 1847) only intensified the resolve of the revolutionary cells culminating in the Revolutions of 1848, that spread to Germany, the Austrian Empire, France, and parts of northern Italy. The first revolution on the Italian peninsula took place in the Kingdom of Sicily, which resulted in a constitution for the whole kingdom. An insurrection in 1848 caused pope Pius IX to flee Rome and a republic was proclaimed. King Charles Albert of Sardinia mobilized his army and marched to the assistance of Lombardy and joined in the war to drive the Austrians from Italian soil. While it initially looked as if the independence and unity of Italy was a realistic possibility, the Austrians defeated the Piedmontese and Charles Albert had to abdicate. ... • 32. Tradeoffs Between Relational and Object-Oriented Database... Discuss the tradeoffs between relational and object oriented database management systems 1) Stating Position The object oriented DBMS is superior to the relational database on some specific counts, primarily because it can satisfy the complex demands of the market today better than the any other. Secondly while the relational data base stores data as tables, the object model stores data as objects and creates associations. This can create a multiple set of attributes for each object such that the data base is more flexible to the requirements that may be housed for different sets of data having both similar and dissimilar characteristics. The paradigms then are developed for each set of common characteristics and unique characteristics of the objects which is not possible in a relational database that has a very rigid structure. (Bruegge, 2004) Earlier the heterogeneous systems integration is a major issue. Therefore it has to be considered if the system proposed is amenable to multiple platforms and will give the same results. There are many applications available to enforce this, but it is to be borne in mind that in a data management system many components have to be integrated with the system and the layering of these components becomes critical. (Thuraisingham, 2001) But the requirements today have gone beyond the traditional DBMS and the system is expected too seamlessly perform varied functions like tracking functions, data analysis and reporting, vendor ... On my eighth birthday, I woke up to my dad dressed in a camouflage top holding onto a bowand arrowand a massive white target standing at his feet. For example, some people argue that Bond is perceived as the anti hero. This interpretation would make sense because some people believe that Bond lacks conventional heroic attributes. He often uses fancy weapons, like a handgun that recognizes his palm print, and different specialized methods of transportation. In addition, his character, often drinking, sexualized, and in the beginning weak, is seen as having non heroic characteristics. However, this view is ultimately weakened by not acknowledging the validity of Campbell s research on the hero journey. The journey begins when the hero receives the call. This call is represented in the movie by Bond witnessing the attack on MI6 on the newscast, he then returns to Britain to begin his mission. The call removes the hero from their typical environment, for Bond was life on the beach, to complete their quest. This argument is supported by Lynnette Porter, who explains that often in literature into a troubled time comes a call to action, to change, to adventure, perhaps to heroism. The potential hero hears this call and decides to answer, this reflects the exact moment Bond received his call while spending all night at the bar (110). This call inevitably starts Bond on his hero journey. Although in the beginning Bond may not present the characteristics of a hero, he follows the hero s journey throughout the plot and proves to be a heroic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Puerto Rican Political Parties As a child growing up in Puerto Rico I attended many political campaigns with my father. He was the true meaning of the word fanatic when it came to politics and he had been a politician at an earlier time in his life also. He believed with every fiber in his body that Puerto Rico should become the fifty first state of the United States. My father passed away not seen his dream come true. In Puerto Rico, political parties are associated to the three status choices. There is the New Progressive Party that supports statehood, also the Popular Democratic Party for the commonwealth status and the Puerto Rican Independence Party that prefers as it s name state, independence. These three ideals have painted the landscape of the island s political history with the pro statehood and pro commonwealth parties with the vast majority of followers. They point out the fact that many Puerto Ricans have served and continue to serve in the Armed Forces without the same rights as a citizen from the mainland. Furthermore, statehood provides the idea of representation in congress, which means having a counting vote on issues that would affect the island s citizens (Pedro Pierluisi February 2014). However, financially there would be a substantial difference with these programs, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office Medicare spending will increase from a current $4.5 billion to an average of $4.5 to $6 billion. Medicaid will go from $685 million to $1.1 to $2.1 billion. Snap spending is $ 1.9 billion and range will be $1.7 to $2.6 billion. The reason for the low amount according to the GAO is due to some participants been eligible for other types of programs not currently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Rape Statistics Rape Statistics Working at a Historic Black College/University (HBCU) for the past three (3) years, I just recently came in contact with a rape victim. I ve seen the shows but never thought, I would be a person to come in contact with one. Talking to the different individuals involved with the student case, I decided to do my research paper on rap victim. Specifically, I am looking at how the likelihood of being the victim of a violent crime in the United States is related to gender and race of the victim. The raw data is readily available from the US department of Justice min cooperation with the US Department of Health and Human Services. The Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The multiple regression equation looks like this: y = b1x1 + b2x2 + ... + bnxn + c The b s stand for the regression coefficient for the corresponding x, or independent variables. C is the constant, or the y intercept and e is the error reflected in the residuals. This is a main effect model. In this case we are looking at the interaction effect on the dependent variable. In short, this is important because through this model, we can see how a second or third independent variable effects the relationship between the first independent variable and the dependent variable. For example, we may see that the relationship between income and likelihood of being the victim of a violent crime is moderated by education level attained by the victim. There can be many variables within the variables. The researchers obviously did not take an exact count of every crime in the United States. Rather, they sampled the population. In order to make sure the sample is true to the rest of the population, confidences must be set. These are the formulas for testing differences in percentages or rates of a single response variable with the same base. The formula calculates standard error of the difference between two percentages derived from a single response with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Rising Cost Of California Essay The Rising Cost of Tuition in California State Universities The cost of tuition for California State Universities has skyrocketed over the last 10 years. It has forced many students to take out expensive student loans to complete their educational goals, often times leaving graduating college students steep in debt as they enter the workforce. Some of the contributing factors that I am going to address are inflation, the rising cost of living and the varying costs of different educational institutions Webster s dictionary defines inflation: as a continuing rise in the general price level usually attributed to an increase in the volume of money and credit relative to available goods and services. During the last 10 years we have seen and felt the effects of inflation. Services and goods have gone up in price, but the minimum wage for most Californians stayed the same for a number of years. Inflation is a key factor that has affected tuition costs in most universities and has helped contribute to the steady rise. Public and private schools each typically have their own college inflation rate, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inflation definitely has played a role and will continue to do so in the future as the economy changes and adapts. It is clear that in the last ten years tuition cost spiked and in some areas doubled. The cost of living was also a contributing factor for the spiked tuition costs. California Universities are amongst some of the best in the nation, but they come with a price tag that unfortunately many cannot afford. Finally the varying universities and the quality of the programs often dictate the costs. This was clear in the comparison between Fresno State and California Polytechnic State. Both offer quality education in specific fields for the right price. As some would say, A good education is not cheap, and a cheap education is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Rav Kook Essay Rav Kook was an innovator and several generations ahead of the traditional orthodoxy. He did not limit himself to Torah and Halacha, but his interest went beyond the limits of Jewish law. Kook was versed with secular literature and philosophy, he was one of the founders of the Hebrew university and his inaugural speech he tried to unify zion and Torah which in my option is a problematic marriage. He was revolutionary in apply Jewish law relating secular laws in (Kashrut). This rejuvenation of Jewish result law resulted in much resistance by orthodox jews. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rav Kook s revolutionary approach was to open up the constructs of Halacha to allow for a broader roll for religious jews. Until that time Halacha god was only understood through the prism of Halacha, it was Rav Kook that enlarged the boundaries of Halacha to include Zionism. That is why Rav Kook had a picture of Herzl hung in his office and considered him as a modern Moses, even though Herzl was a secular jew that had Christmas trees in his home. Rav Kook s revolutionary approach to the Halacha was not to look at the religion soley from the perspective of that man is passive and only god is active. By creating the bridge between Zionism to religion, he merited religious jews the freedom to act and engage in history and not waiting for god to act. He was instrumental in allowing religious Zionism to become active participants in their own destiny, as he stated The people of Israelare not a nation in the normal sense of the term, but rather the essence of the human ideal. They exist as a society on all its meaning and are called a nation by way of description because all societies of man are called by such a name. (World Mizrachi, Iggrot Ha Rayah Part II: Responsa ... • 53. Is Loki Of The Most Dominant Characteristics Of An Entire... One of the most dominant characteristics in any villain is a craving for destruction, whether it is the annihilation of a specific hero or of an entire world. Occasionally, however, the heel possesses a quality that contradicts this nefarious tendency. Rarely does a story include an evildoer whose actions end up benefitting those around him. This doer of good and... doer of evil ( Far Away and Long Ago 1) is Lokiof Norse mythology. While some of Loki s actions qualify as heinous, many of those who read of his misgivings are too quick to criticize the undervalued deity. This harsh judgment has spun into a popular culture that paints a misconstrued image of Loki in film. Although interpreted by modern media as inherently evil, the Norse god Loki is simply a misunderstood mischief maker who helps on his own accord, corrects his misdeeds, and ultimately causes the dawn of modern man. Before digging into his misdeeds, noting Loki s pure benevolence is essential. Atop a mountain, the gods built the city Asgard, a great City... that the Giants could never overthrow (Colum 6). As they built their great city, the gods were approached by a giant. Although the giant could not help build the halls or palaces of Asgard, [he could] build great walls that [could] never be overthrown (7), and so the gods took the giant s offer. Of course, however, this favor would not be performed without reward. Odin, the Father of the Gods, asks the giant what payment he desires, believing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If parents are not part of the solution, they are part of the problem. (4, para. 6) There is substantial evidence that parenting may be related to the development and maintenance of disruptive behaviors in children with ADHD (7). A highly distressed parentcan make their child s behavior worse if their parenting style is too rigid (4). If the child s family is not stable or supportive of their child then that can lead to the child developing mental problems. So to have a positive, supportive parenting style towards ADHD children, along with children who do not have ADHD, is crucial towards the child s development ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
