This document discusses Ciena's Multi-Domain Service Orchestration (MDSO) platform, which provides orchestration across multiple domains including WAN, SD-WAN, NFV, cloud, and more. The MDSO is infrastructure-agnostic and uses open APIs to reduce vendor lock-in while automating service delivery. It allows for modular and extensible onboarding of virtual and physical network functions from multiple vendors to provide end-to-end control and programmability. Real-world use cases demonstrate how the MDSO has helped customers quickly provision new services and reduce costs through automation.

Enterprise Network Transformation Powered by OrangeX, with Nokia Nuage and AW...Amazon Web Services
Come learn how OrangeX in Spain is transforming enterprise networks with AWS Cloud and Nokia's Nuage SD-WAN. Nuage's SD-WAN is delivered with management, control, and user plane in the AWS cloud. It is powered by Amazon EC2 i3.metal and AWS hybrid IT services via true multi-tenant, built-in multi-segment orchestrators, and multi-tier management spanning from operators to partners to direct enterprise portals. This enables the solution to be extended directly to service provider private backbones and cloud data centers and services, as well as between enterprise sites. The solution further enables SD-WAN over last mile broadband and leased wholesale circuits to access existing private backbones to leverage their reliable mid-mile connectivity and existing connectivity to enterprise sites. With SD-WAN becoming an essential function in vCPE deployments, Nuage’s SD-WAN has been established as the platform for simplifying the delivery and deployment of virtual network functions, such as security and agility, on-premises, and in the cloud. Learn factors to consider in using SD-WAN solution with AWS, agile implementation of the solution, and leveraging a cloud-ready operating model. We share sufficient references for you to take away to continue learning.

16:15-16:55 - The autonomous network
Speaker: Simon Parry, CTO UK public sector, Ciena.
You’ve virtualised your servers, virtualised your storage, maybe even virtualised an application, but what about the network that joins it all together? How do you build an agile, open network that responds to the new world of on-demand services, without impacting current performance and while delivering greater efficiencies?
Find out how a network operator can save money and deliver a more responsive experience and outcome for your users.
Cisco Intelligent Branch - Enabling the Next Generation BranchCisco Canada
This session introduces the Cisco Intelligent WAN (IWAN) solution for providing highly available Enterprise WAN connectivity using less expensive Internet circuits. As the volume of content and applications traveling across networks grows exponentially, organizations must optimize their WAN investments. Cisco Intelligent WAN (IWAN) helps you do just that. IT can use investments in Cisco ISR 4000 Series and ASR 1000 Series Routers to scale to the growing demands of branch-office users by providing an optimal experience over any connection at lower cost. And you can do this without compromising performance, reliability, or security.</p>
During this session, we will explain how IWAN, will allow customers to quickly roll out bandwidth-intensive applications, such as video, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and guest Wi-Fi services. And it doesn’t matter which transport model you prefer, whether MPLS, the Internet, cellular, or a hybrid WAN access model. The savings from IWAN often pay for the branch infrastructure investments, and may also free up resources for new, innovative business services.
Karsten Geise's presentation for Internet Security Days 2016 showed how governments and businesses can protect critical infrastructure against backdoor cyber attacks.
Faced with the dual threats of rising operating costs and declining revenues, network service providers are increasingly turning to network functions virtualization (NFV) to help them keep up with constantly changing market conditions.
In a virtualized Telco environment, service providers can deploy and deliver new network functions, services and capacity on demand—reducing normal rollout time from months and weeks to just hours.
Leveraging the principles of cloud computing, network service providers can deliver a level of responsiveness never before available, easily scaling capacity up or down to meet the evolving needs of their subscribers.
The result is a highly agile system that allows new revenue-generating services to be quickly developed, exhaustively tested and selectively rolled out to targeted groups in a fraction of the time and at a much lower cost than previously thought possible.
In this session, the speaker will present how the solution from Juniper networks look like and how it can be deployed by service provider to improve their agility in delivering services to their customers.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
