• Wind speed and direction are measured using
an advanced ultrasonic sensor.
• Equally spaced ultrasonic transducers on a
horizontal an ideal design, ensuring accurate wind
measurement from all wind directions, without
blind angles or corrupted readings.
• The wind sensor has no moving parts, which makes
it maintenance free.

Sensors
Barometric Pressure, Temperature,
and Humidity Module
W: ColumbiaWeather.com P: 503-629-0887 E: info@ColumbiaWeather.com
• Barometric pressure uses a silicon-based sensor
which has minimal hysteresis and excellent
repeatability.
• Temperature measurement is based on a ceramic
sensor.
• Humidity measurement is based on a capacitive
technology. The highly accurate sensor offers
excellent long-term stability in a wide range of
environments with negligible hysteresis.
Mounted in a radiation shield for protection.
9
• An impact sensor detects the size and impact of
individual rain drops. The signal from each drop
can be converted directly to the accumulated
rainfall.
• This measurement method eliminates scattering,
flooding and clogging, as well as wetting
and evaporation losses.

Calibration
26
Sensors
All sensors are calibrated at the factory.
No field calibration is required except for the altitude
on the barometric pressure sensor.
The barometric pressure sensor is sensitive to
changes in elevation of as little as 10 ft. (3 m).
Adding the local altitude for automatic pressure
adjustment is easily accomplished through the
monitoring device.
W: ColumbiaWeather.com P: 503-629-0887 E: info@ColumbiaWeather.com
27
Operation
Once set up, the Orion will operate automatically
by immediately recording and sending data
to the desired monitoring device.
Reviewing data, updating sensor parameters,
and checking station operation status can all
be done either remotely or on-location through
the monitoring options.
W: ColumbiaWeather.com P: 503-629-0887 E: info@ColumbiaWeather.com
Maintenance
Troubleshooting and detailed support information
are available in the User Manual.
Sensors and cables should be periodically checked
for abnormalities and debris depending on the
environment.
Replacing the PTU module: The PTU module
contains separate sensors for pressure, temperature
and humidity. Sensors can drift over time and it is
recommended to replace the PTU module once
every two years to ensure the unit meets its stated
accuracy. This can be done in the field.

“…highest ranked in the User Training Criterion
primarily because of the detailed user manual.
The manual was easy to use and provided clear
instructions”*

  • 28. Maintenance Troubleshooting and detailed support information are available in the User Manual. Sensors and cables should be periodically checked for abnormalities and debris depending on the environment. Replacing the PTU module: The PTU module contains separate sensors for pressure, temperature and humidity. Sensors can drift over time and it is recommended to replace the PTU module once every two years to ensure the unit meets its stated accuracy. This can be done in the field. 28 W: ColumbiaWeather.com P: 503-629-0887 E: info@ColumbiaWeather.com
