Ravens are people who attend massive techno parties called raves where loud techno music is played and many people use drugs. Raves are known for their illegal drug use and dreamlike atmosphere that attracts youth seeking rebellion through the bright, crazy fashion and strobe lights. The rave subculture started in the late 1980s in London when organizations began holding illegal raves in abandoned warehouses, though local regulations in the 1990s made such large parties more difficult to organize, splitting the scene into different dance music styles.

clubs. Ravers were and still are
mostly young from all sections of
society .
A "rave" usually refers to a party,
usually all night long, open to the
general public, where loud "techno"
music is mostly played and many
people partake in a number of
different chemicals

• Rave’s are known for their illegal
practice and the inevitable drug
use that comes with enjoying a
heated, almost animal experience.
• Rave’s are often dreamlike, with
many people saying they ‘loose
themselves’ in the music.
• Youth’s are attracted to it because
of the rebellion attached to the
phenomenon of raving.

• The fashion is bright, crazy, neon
and clashing. It is all about
showing you are individual and
different.
• Glow-Sticks are often used to
decorate the body.
• Strobe lights are often used in
venue’s, creating a dreamlike,
jilted, crazy image.

The term rave first came into use in
Britain in the late 50's referring to the
wild bohemian parties of the time. It
was then briefly revived by the
mods, but didn't come back into
fashion until the mid eighties. The
main Rave subculture started in the
late 80’s and was a London based
phenomenon, many organizations
started holding illegal raves in
abandoned warehouses.

In the early 1990s, the scene was
slowly changing, local councils passed
by-laws in an effort to prevent or
discourage rave organisations getting
a licence. This meant that the days of
legal one-off parties were numbered.
By the mid-90s, the scene had split
into many different styles of dance
music, making large parties more
expensive to set up and more difficult
to promote. The happy old skool style
was replaced by the darker jungle and
the faster happy hardcore.
