Rainforest Deforestation
Entire ecosystems are filled with unique species, and the frightening reality is deforestation takes
the habitat out from underneath its inhabitants (Bradford 2015). Forests have been cleared at a rate
so astonishingly fast, that over half of all known forests have been compromised. If this type of
behavior continues, the natural world will have to be given a new name, because nothing left will be
"natural". Rainforests clearly have an outward benefits, from cleaning the air we breathe, to
different diversity among the species who inhabit this Earth. Organismal density around the equator
is exceptionally high, yet humans feel the need to clear much of that land for different use.
Urbanization and the need for more agricultural space play a critical role in how much land humans
clear. What we as a species forget is how all of these trees and biomes impact the world on a grander
scale. Water vapor is needed to complete the water cycle, but without trees constantly humidifying
the air, the cycle becomes less fluid. Sturdy trees like the ones in much of the rainforest hold the soil
and anchor it from eroding. Because deforestation completely removes all the ... Show more content

The soil can encapsulate the air that is above it, and without trees to purify the air, deforested soil is
left with some nasty, unfiltered chemicals harbored within it (Naseem 2011). Not to mention
products that trees contribute to exclusively, like paper and fiber, would be in fewer supply. A
driving factor in the clearing of trees for land is the need for cattle to be able to graze (Holland
2017). Cattle is an extremely ineffective way of producing food to feed the world, yet its high
demand deems it a necessity. The trees that cover this planet are like natural lungs that filter out the
toxins in the air, therefore, cutting down our air purifier for something as negligible as meat seems
preposterous, yet it is happening at a steady rate every

Environmental problems.
Soil erosion.
In "Forests and the end of second millennium" in forests in a full world (2001) George M.
Woodwell points out that the most successful civilizations have decayed as forests where destroyed
and replaced with scrublands. The scrublands were further impoverished by intensive grazing and
erosion until the underlying rocks emerged and became the land scape. He goes further giving an
example of the ancient Syria, Persia, throughout the Levant, and the Mediterranean basin, also the
decline of the state known as Greece today was as a result of loss of forests and the impoverishment
of the landscape. The same process happened with respect to Carthage in North Africa.
We also have contemporary examples of land degradation from Haiti and Madagascar, now over
populated and deforested and degraded to the point where their land scape are dysfunctional,
incapable of supporting organized society. The rivers no longer flow in established channels, water
from storms in mountains appears as floods in low lands and carries silt to fill harbors and destroy
the coastal fisheries, so to restore all these problems, there is need to reforest and stabilize the
uplands to regain control of water flows and water quality and to re–establish a potentially

Deforestation In Brazil
Currently happening in Brazil, the most fundamental issue driving the land clearing policy in Brazil
is the ongoing rapid rate of deforestation. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
date indicate that Brazil lost about 42 million ha of forest from 1990 to 2005 alone. The
deforestation in the amazon can be attributed to the conversion to cattle ranches and cropland. The
World Constitution Union divides protected areas into five categories depending on the intended
level of human use. Brazilian Forest Code is the primary legal restriction of forest clearing on
private lands. The FC has established that 50% of each property must be managed as forest reserves
and retain natural composition. However, in 1996 the minimum required

Deforestation And The Global Issue Of Deforestation
Needs–
Human needs can be illustrated by question 2 as the Physical, environmental and social causes of
deforestation are predominantly created by human needs. In turn these causes hinder sustainability.
This report states that although it is important to meet the needs of humans, the needs must be
satisfied in a sustainably conscious manner. For this to be achieved, direct effects of each human
need must be critically analysed and understood. This paper aims to deliver this by identifying
particular human actions that contribute to the global issue of deforestation.
Furthermore, the paper will identify the satisfiers and individual activities that contribute to this
issue of deforestation and the needs they are fulfilling. This is illustrated in question 3.
This report strongly contends that Deforestation is created predominantly by Logging, Mining,
Urbanisation and Agriculture. Each of these causes is initiated by human needs and in turn has
detrimental effects on the environment on a global scale.
Logging, which is largely apparent in many countries particularly in Asia and Africa and mining
hinders the development of a sustainable environment. These issues both degrade the environment
as they destroy natural habitats, reduce biodiversity, and contribute to the release of greenhouse gas
emissions ("Illegal Logging," n.d).
This in turn pollutes the environment, as Forests are large storages of greenhouse gases, and as a
result of deforestation, these gases are released

Deforestation In Australia
Deforestation in Australia
What is the issue?
Australia is among one of the wealthiest nations. It has a small population of almost 24million but
has a high rate of extensive deforestation and degradation since the later 18th century during
European settlement. Most of Australia, around 7.6million km2,is covered in dry desert unsuitable
for forest growth, but the thriving coastal and hills areas have seen decline in forest cover and
quality over the last 60 years, especially between 1999 and 200 where an average of 325,900
hectares were being wiped out each year. Once European colonists began to expand in the late 18th
and early 19th centuries, deforestation and clearance occurred widely along the most fertile soils
near the coast. Due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This includes planting pine forests for controlled removal of trees. The Australian government are
taking out $2.3 million to reduce and help deforestation in the Asia–pacific region. In March 2008,
Kevin Rudd and PNG Prime Minister, Michael Somare signed a PNG–Australia forest carbon
partnership and a month later Climate Change Minister announced $3 million to help reduce
greenhouse gases emitted from deforestation.
How has science helped?
Through science, we have been able to see the damage that is being done through a series of
different tests including testing the soil quality and water salinity levels. It has helped us monitor
these levels over a number of years. Satellite readings have helped view the land that has been
disturbed and see which areas have been affected by it, they also show weather readings and are
able to give required information for whether the area is suitable for replantation.

Danger of Deforestation
The Danger of Deforestation(rough draft) By Chenghao Chen
ENGL 289
Mrs. Michelle Graf
7/1/2012
It is obvious the importance of the forest vegetation to everyone in the society. However, people in
the past ages did a kind of thing that they thought was very meaningful–cutting down the trees.
When they recall this history, most of them cannot be restrained from their remorse and guilty to it.
Trees or forest are things that not only protect the environment but also help people to live better.
Destroy of forest and deforestation brings a great many of harm to the environments as well as
people in the world.
It is believed that forest is significantly important to both the environment and people's life. The
importance of forest can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So there were many people took their tools to cut trees in 1990s in China. It was just like a fashion
trend. They may use wood to produce furniture, houses, boats and they need more space to do farm
work. Therefore, they have to cut trees to make it happen. Study on the main reason for
deforestation is vital to the survey on the change of the forest land. The main reasons for
deforestation are from two aspects, one is the state–owned forest area, and the other is collective
forest area (John&Richard 1988). In fact, the amount of state–owned forest area is much larger
than collective forest area. The ecological as well as financial crisis caused by the deforestation has
also stayed for quite a long time. The reasons for ecological and financial crisis in state–owned
forest area can be analyzed from several aspects such as, firstly, the excessive growth of the
population in state–owned forest area, which makes the overburdened of the enterprises of state–
owned forest area. There are about 1.3 million work forces in state–owned forest area, which may
composed of one third the surplus work force this year. Secondly, over–use of the forest under the
administration of state–owned forest enterprises. Thirdly, the administration systems of state–owned
forest enterprises perform practically no function. There are also two reasons for the deforestation in
collective forest area. Firstly, the reform of

Deforestation: Rubisco
Imagine walking through a plot of land devoid of wildlife and plants. Hiking on land teeming with
undesired tree stubs and scattered, splintered branches. Land lacking the vibrant shades of green and
the wandering echoes of various packs of animals. Occasionally you may run into a lone animal
searching for its family or food. Now imagine these unpleasant plots of land being left in this
loathsome state because raising trees and plants took too much time. Luckily, we don't face the
devastating results of deforestation on land today. But back in 2018, the issue of deforestation
impacted a substantial amount of ecosystems throughout the world. So how did we reach the point
where we are able to cut trees for wood and regrow them at a faster rate? ... Show more content on

The enzyme behind this life–changing innovation is Ribulose–1,5–bisphosphate
carboxylase/oxygenase, better known as Rubisco. Rubisco is involved in the first major step of
carbon fixation, a process by which atmospheric CO2 is converted by plants and other
photosynthetic organisms to energy–rich molecules. In chemical terms, rubisco catalyzes the
carboxylation of ribulose–1,5–bisphosphate (also known as RuBP) ("Ribulose 1,5–Bisphosphate").
This begins three rounds of a cyclical series of reactions in which three CO2 molecules are
converted into a compound called glyceraldehyde–3–phosphate, which is converted into various
nutrients. RuBP is replenished at the end of each cycle. The used up ATP and NADPH are converted
to ADP and NADP+, respectively, which are used for the light–dependent reactions (Cranford).
The active site of rubisco is arranged around a magnesium ion held tightly by three amino acids.
The exposed side of the ion is free to bind with CO2 ("PDB101: Molecule of the Month: Rubisco").
Nevertheless, Rubisco does have its limitations. Because O2 and CO2 molecules are similar in
shape and chemical properties, an oxygen molecule can bind comfortably in rubisco's active site
which is designated to CO2 molecules. Rubisco then attaches the oxygen to the sugar chain,
forming a faulty oxygenated product.
Rubisco is involved in carbon fixation in the Calvin

Deforestation Is The Real Consequences Of Deforestation
Forests have been around since the beginning of time. What can be conceived as just a patch of land
is really an immense part of life on earth. The plants in a forest produce oxygen for humans as well
as all other creatures. This land also provides a home for natural wildlife. But what would Earth
look like without these forests? If the rate of deforestation continues to increase then we may have
to find out the answer to that question. Deforestation is a recurring global problem which is the act
of tearing down a forest to use the land for a different purpose. Today's society is so steadfast on
advancement that they aren 't stepping back to look at the solutions to the problem, alternatives, nor
the very real consequences of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This goes to show that even the smallest daily decisions can help benefit the environment.
Some look at the benefits of deforestation, which there are some. The major reason for deforestation
is agriculture. The land can be utilized as farmland and raising livestock. Another benefit of
deforestation is the obvious. Wood. Everyone and their brother uses a product or byproduct of wood
every day whether it being for the use of construction, the furniture in homes or the paper in
notebooks. Deforestation also creates jobs. Employment is given to the individuals who cut down
the trees as well as the ones who are processing them. This employment is also extended to those
producing the byproducts such as pencils and paper. The cleared land can also serve as ground for
potential urbanization. Crystal Lombardo makes an excellent point on this benefit of deforestation.
She says"With 10 billion people expected to be on the planet by the year 2050 and no end to the
growth explosion in sight, space is becoming a premium on Earth. When forests are on lands that
could be used for habitation, then removing the forest creates more livable space. Homes and
businesses can even be built using the products that have been removed from the biome". Although
there are many benefits to deforestation, is it really worth it?
There are many benefits to deforestation, however, the destruction is not worth the real cost.

Peru Deforestation
Background The richly bio–diverse Madre de Dios region of Peru is subject to heavy deforestation
due to illegal gold mining. With the large increase in gold prices between 2001 and 2010, the
Thermatic Mapper on the Landsat 5 satellite revealed local deforestation was rising at a rate of 26%
per annum (NASA 2012). The forest is cleared to allow the soil to be mined for gold. The gold is
mined predominately using large petrol engine powered water pumps to blast away the soil and into
a slurry. The slurry is then pumped to the top of a sluice which are covered in mats made from
Astroturf or a similar material, which is coated in mercury. The soil is run down through the sluice,
with the gold depositing in the mercury laced mats. Alternatively ... Show more content on

With the rise of mining in the region, the population of our village grew towards the 25000 mark
(Rodrigo 2014). The local economy was booming, there were shops, hostels, bars and gas stations.
The mining seemed to be a blessing for the area as prior to this, there was very little income
available for the local people. The recent government crackdown on illegal mining operations and
numerous raids on the district has destroyed the local economy. Gas supplies have been cut off
(Rodrigo 2014), police and army personnel came and destroyed outlying villages and machinery.
Since then the village has imploded, with most stores closing and gold buyers leaving. Now there
are only about 3000 people left in Huepetuhe (Rodrigo 2014), many people are now trying to return
to more traditional way of living, only to find the extent of the destruction to the forest the mining
has caused. The water is poisoned, which in turn has poisoned the fish (CAMEP 2013). The land
that has been mined is unusable due to soil contamination and now is just hills and holes, it's not
farmable, it's just a wasteland. The short term gain that was the mining boom has well and truly
passed, leaving a hideous environmental scar that may never recover. Now our villagers need to
travel further to source uncontaminated food and water sources or face the risk of becoming sick,
which might eventually see our traditional home perish as it becomes harder to find the basic
necessities

By the year 1570, Japan's population had reached 10 million. This spike in the population and the
continuous need for the natural resources led to a very serious environmental issue for Japan. For
the first time, the country was faced with widespread deforestation. Deforestation was not entirely
new. As long ago as 600 AD there had been localized deforestation, mainly in the Kinai region, as
the wood there was required for houses, war or even monuments. This didn't become a serious
problem at first as Japan's population was quite small and there were plenty of forests to use. In fact,
most of the population at that time encouraged deforestation so that they could use the cleared land
for farming and to make forest growth products such as fertilizers.

Eassy On Deforestation
Deforestation is a commonly known environmental issue across our world today, yet still has a long
posed threat to our earth. Deforestation is a permanent process of humans removing a forest or stand
of trees where the land is later converted to a non–forest use. The forest covers over 30% of our
planets land, and the ecosystems they create are essential for life. Not not only do forests produce
vital oxygen but provides homes and shelter for people and wildlife. Forests provide a habitat for
over 80% of the animals living on land and even for a large majority of humans, who rely on
rainforests for their daily food. In addition they provide protection from flooding and sandstorms.
But, deforestation is utterly diminishing them, at an extremely fast rate. It is estimated that 4 to
6,000 rainforest species go extinct each year.
Deforestation occurs in different places around the world, tropical rainforests however are the most
common and targeted areas. The tropical forests are forests that span both sides of the Equator and
they are the most. They are the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. Brazil has the highest rate in
the world, since 1970 over 600,000 square kilometres of the Amazon Rainforest has been destroyed.
At the current rate of destruction, 100 years from now our forests could completely disappear. In the
Amazon for example, around 20% of the forests have been completely destroyed in the last 50
years, only due to forest conversion for cattle ranching.

Deforestation In Brazil
During the previous years, one of the biggest threats the world as a whole faces is the destruction of
our environment, mainly through deforestation. Deforestation is the destruction of forests in order to
increase land usage for agriculture, grazing and urban development. Generally forest clearers cut or
burn the trees to clear land. Deforestation is one of the major causes of environmental problems in
Brazil with the rate it is developing. Brazil's development is coming at a time when scientists
believe that the loss of the Amazon's forests, the Atlantic forest and the Cerrado will affect the way
the planet functions. Brazil has the most amount of forest in the world, if the cutting of forests keeps
going on this way it will affect the water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Atlantic forest is also highly affected with deforestation, as most of the forest is gone. Little
deforestation had occurred in Brazil's Amazon before the 1970s, after 1970 the rate of deforestation
increased significantly and about 12.5 million hectares of Amazonian land was deforested by 1980
(Moran, 1). "According to the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (BNIS), by August
2007, the deforested area in the Brazilian Legal Amazon reached 700 thousand square km, which
represent 14% of its geographic area"(Araujo et al). The geographic distribution of deforestation
among the Amazon states has been unequal. Through 1988 to 2007, deforestation was concentrated
in the northern areas of the state of Mato Grosso and the southern areas of Para and Rondonia.
These three states are respectively responsible for 36%, 32% and 14% of total deforestation in the
Legal Amazon. Brazil's Trans–Amazonian Highway is another huge project that has increased the
rate of deforestation throughout the Amazon Forest. Many other highways and projects has
destroyed a great deal trees in Brazil. Other factors and projects also caused increased forest loss
like the hydroelectric projects have flooded vast areas of Amazon rainforests. Especially, the

The Deforestation Of The Amazons Deforestation
The Amazons Deforestation Have your eyes ever set on a barren land where even technology can't
reverse the damage we have caused? We care mostly for the present, but we must never forget to see
to the future and in this case the deforestation of the Amazons. "Deforestation is considered the
second largest anthropogenic source of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere" (Song et al. 2). Each day
we are wiping out miles of trees from one of our most diverse ecosystems in the planet, and one of
our largest "lungs" in the world. At our rate of destruction of the rainforest, we would have inflicted
in our future a great disservice, as the trees cut down would no longer give us clean air and more
CO2 would pollute our air. CO2 can have a negative impact on our health. As we breathe in this air,
it can lead to lung cancer and other diseases. By destroying the Amazon ecosystem we could drive
many exclusive species that only live in the Amazon to extinction. Will we know the harm we have
caused right away? Probably not, but we will definitely find out sooner rather than later. The cause
of the Amazon deforestation is due to our need for wood to stay warm, and for developing countries
to use it for fuel. Our top priority in conserving the Amazons is the unforeseen environmental
impact that can be caused to our planet and to us. "Tropical deforestation also has other negative
externalities, such as the loss of biodiversity, erosion, floods, and lowered water levels" (Jusys).

Individuals have been deforesting the Earth for a large number of years, fundamentally to clear land
for yields or domesticated animals. "Deforestation" is the lasting devastation of timberlands with a

United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization an expected 18 million sections of land of
backwoods, which is generally the nation's extent of Panama, are lost every year; Although tropical

Earth–wide temperature boost and land transformation; therefore, numerous individuals trust that to

Deforestation In Rainforests
Rich black soil, towering tropical trees, the distant sound of a hollering monkey and the smell of
damp leaves paint the picture of a tropical rainforest. The most famous and valuable tropical forests
include the Amazon, Congo Basin, Indonesia and the forests of the Russian Far East and have been
debated as endangered for decades. These rainforests mainly differ in soils, geology, precipitation
patterns, the wildlife which resides there but all share the abundance of natural wealth including
sturdy woods, medicines and spices and are sought out by many. However the long debated question
still stands if deforestation is something of the past or an on going and current threat. Deforestation
is defined as the intentional or natural clearance of forests on a massive scale, often resulting in
damage to the quality of the land and adverse environment effects. () Today forests still cover
roughly 30% of the worlds land area however this number is sure to dwindle down due to the loss of
46–58 thousand square miles annually, equivalent to approximately 48 footballs fields every
minute." (WWF) The decline in trees translates for loss of habitat and homes for the millions of
exotic creatures which call rainforests for example the Amazon, home. The Amazon alone is home
to more than two–thirds of the 1.4 million species known to man however this is not even close to
the extent of the wealth the drizzly rainforest has to offer. (Rothbard, David and Craig Rucker)
Species who's habitats are threatened by deforestation are often unable to prosper in the small
forested acres left behind. Therefore species become vulnerable to trophy hunters or poachers
causing numbers to begin to dwindle, some eventually succumbing to extinction. Even a lighter non
commercial local deforestation can result in extinctions due to many unique species living in small
isolated parts of the rainforests across the globe. (WWF) According to the World Wildlife Fund
(WWF) affected species includes: giant pandas, tigers, rhinos, orangutans, Asian elephant, many
species of apes like the gorilla and the Amur leopard (WWF). Rainforests are not only threatened by
the effects of commercial and large scale deforestation but also by the communities of people

Deforestation And Its Effects On Deforestation
Rainforests are found typically in tropical areas with a constant heavy rainfall in its biodiversity.
"When areas of rainforests are destroyed, it's not just the trees that disappear." It's time for the
government to take action on deforestation. Rainforests are an important location for indigenous
people and animals because that's where their home belongs. Yet the government and organizations
ignore those facts and just demolish their homes in order to gain a new location for productions. It's
a topic that's constantly debated in politics and society should take a recognition on what's
happening in deforestation. More than half of the world's rainforests are destroyed and is in danger
by humans, therefore, the government shouldn't allow deforestation anymore in order to save the
remaining rainforests in the environment because it affects habitats, species, and indigenous people.
Loss of habitats is an evident threat in the rainforest as the facilities continue to form new funds to
buildings and resources. In deforestation, people can profit and revenue on the resources to inhibit
for society to use. They profit on the resources they sell to other countries after they obtain the
sources they received from the rainforests. Rather than the facilities looking at a profit for their own
benefits, the destruction of the land will cause the species to never return back nor will it provide
shelter for them in their adapting habitat. Even if deforestation is to distribute goods

Avatar the movie has many stories behind it, comparing it to the real world. In relation to Avatar,
when deforestation occurs it will kill the animal's natural habitat and humans honestly don't care.
Humans will destroy anything, that is beneficial towards them, and in this case deforestation will
happen. Due to deforestation, animals lose their home making it quite difficult to survive in a new
environment. It's harder for animals to adapt, this can lead to animal extinction that will affect
everyone because life is a cycle, and animals are part of it. When comparing the environment to
reality vs unreality, in Avatar the movie, you realize the significance behind it. In the movie the

Deforestation Is Wrong
So Deforestation, in my opinion deforestation is wrong and bad for earth, the reason i dont like
deforestation and i think its a problem is because its killing many species, destroying forests, and
destroying habitats.
First of all destroying habitats, destroying habitats is a problem.that talks about benefits talk about
how deforestation provides us a way of life, but think about how many things live in the forest.
Humans are also animals and how would you feel is someone went to your home, came in and
chopped it all down? See you wouldent want that right? So think about how the animals feel.
Second is killing all the species, those animals out there that live in the forest are just like us.

Deforestation Problems
To this day, the human population has grown to over 7.5 billion consumers. With that number and
the grand demand for wood grow exponentially. This grand consumption of the earth's natural
resources has caused severe problems to the land, the wildlife, and ultimately to the survival of
every living being on the planet. Deforestation, the felling of trees for the purpose of transporting,
selling, and purchasing has caused dire diminishment to the planet's natural resources. Scientist and
researchers are looking for plausible solutions.
Human Impact and Deforestation
` Earth is like a math problem, and its solution requires every component or else it falls apart.
Deforestation is taking away all of our trees, a vital component, from around the world.
Deforestation is a process where trees are felled to be transported, bought and or to be sold. Our
forests cover over 30 percent of our world's surface,it is the home for many endangered animals
who find shelter in them. Trees produce crucial elements such as oxygen, but these vital trees are
going to disappear soon due to deforestation. What was such a green world has now succumbed to a
brown, barren, and desolate land, and humans have everything to do with it. Humans cause
deforestation by, agriculture, illegal logging and for housing, this spurs researchers to help produce
a solution, Even though the problem is easily seen on the outside, the real issue lies within the 7.5
billion consumers who are okay and are uneducated

Deforestation conflicts and Solutions
The population in the majority of countries around the world is increasing, which places pressure on
local economies to yield additional food or clear additional land for urban developmental urgencies
such as housing and commerce, which leads to a method called deforestation. Cutting down forests
not only generates revenue from sales such as that of timber, but also clears land for use in
development. On the other hand, forests are vital fragments of local and global ecosystems. Cutting
down forests, especially jungles and rain forests, often threatens not only species of wildlife but also
decreases oxygen for us and ultimately contributes to dangerous factors such as global warming.
Therefore, we have two stakeholders, one that believes in development, and one that believes in
preservation. The points of view that are taken from both of these stakeholders may seem
incompatible; however, the compromise of deforestation can be implemented through Eco–forestry,
land use planning, and Reforestation.
The developmental stakeholder mentioned above, wants just that, development. They are regular
citizens who wish to use the forests trees and land to expand urbanization and to use its sources
beneficially. Some examples of these types of individuals are workers such as Farmers,
Constructionists, Loggers, and Miners. Farmers use the method of deforestation to cut down trees to
have greater areas for planting crops and raising livestock to

Wrong With Deforestation
"We are consuming our forests three times faster than they are being reproduced. Some of the
richest timber lands of this continent have already been destroyed, and not replaced, and other vast
areas are on verge of destruction." – Theodore Roosevelt. This quote by president Theodore
Roosevelt goes to show that deforestation has been a problem for many years, and that there should
be an end put to it. All the beautiful land is being destroyed at a fast rate with nobody replacing the
land, and it is only progressing quicker and quicker. The president was right about this problem with
nature, and it should be fixed once and for all.

Increasing of Deforestation When people get sick they believe it's because they didn't took the
precaution they should have taken in order for them not to get sick or anything but in reality it's the
environment that they are living in that is making them sick. At first people say it's other people that
are making them sick, yes is true but what is really causing all this sickness is deforestation. What's
causing deforestation to increase, is it the people in the world or just the world itself? Deforestation
is a permanent destruction of indigenous woodlands. There is a lot happening due to deforestation.
The world is falling apart, many disasters are happening because of deforestation. In the past couple
of years the world has been deteriorating with earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes but what are
people doing to make it stop? The world is becoming a chaotic place to live in. The world is being
deforested everyday, every hour, every minute, and every second that passes by and the people that
live in the world is not doing anything to make the conditions of the world get any better. The world
is getting destroyed without people knowing that it is their own selves the ones that are getting

It is estimated that about 1.8 million hectares of Amazonian forests were lost between 2001 and

deforestation and soil degradation, small and medium scale agriculture, large–scale agriculture,
pasture for livestock, gold mining, coca cultivation and road construction. Controlling small and
medium scale agriculture will be challenging for the government because unlike large–scale
agriculture there is not just one company behind it. The hotspots for deforestation shift as it is

Is Deforestation Worth It?
One of the most prevalent issues in our world today is the issue of deforestation. Deforestation can
be described as "the practice of clearing the natural forests for agriculture, logging, etc."
(Deforestation Statistics). After hearing the definition of deforestation, most people would not find
this to be a very significant issue in the world, but after hearing the alarming statistics associated
with deforestation, most would change their mind. For example, arguably the most shocking statistic
is that deforestation has resulted in 80 percent of Earth's forest cover being cut down (Deforestation
Statistics). Although the lumber harvested from these rainforests across the world serve important

To make matters even more severe than they already are, the Sumatran tiger is "critically–
endangered," and this lumber operation was illegal (Mongabay). Is the wood harvested from that
forest worth risking eliminating the last of the 450 Sumatran tigers on earth (Mongabay)?
In addition to the harm deforestation inflicts on animals, deforestation is also harmful to society.
Many natives, especially in South America, rely tremendously on the rainforest. These tribes live in
the forests, and gather all of their resources from them as well. The lives of these natives are turned
upside down when they have no choice but to abandon their home, because the rainforest is being
destroyed whether they like it or not (Consequences of Deforestation). Tribes are forced to leave
everything they know, and move to more inhabited areas that they are extremely unused to. How
can someone who has lived his or her entire life making do with the resources that earth provided
suddenly learn to be successful in a city, where he or she is required to speak the language and know
certain skills? Deforestation ruins countless lives of people living in or near the Amazon

Dangers Of Deforestation
Why Deforestation Should Stop and How It Affects the Environment?
Today one of the biggest ecological problems is Deforestation. For instance, every year the
rainforests are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of earth's
forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to make the
land available for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many reasons why
trees are remove from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a profit.
However, the biggest causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and growth of
urban zones. Often, small farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and burning them in a
process known as slash and burn agriculture. Some are caused by a combination of human and
natural factors like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young
trees. Logging operations, which provide the world's wood and paper products, also cut countless
trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also build roads to access more remote
forests which leads to further deforestation. Forests still cover about 30 percent of the world's land
area and extend throughout half the size of most countries but, many are lost each year (Live
Science).
Stopping deforestation can significantly address numerous challenges including the protection of
millions of animal and plant species, reducing global warming,

Deforestation And Environment
Deforestation is an increasing global crisis and is mainly caused by human actions. Forests cover
approximately 31% of the area on the planet (Deforestation, n.d.). Deforestation is the destruction of
a wide area of forest land into a cleared land that is used for a variety of reasons. The impact on the
environment from cutting down, burning and damaging forests is very detrimental and there are
severe consequences for the environment and future generations due to deforestation. According to
the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization, approximately 7.3 million hectares of
forests are being destroyed per year in the world (Bradford, 2015). In this essay, I will explore the
impact that deforestation on the environment and I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But when trees get cut down not only do they stop absorbing carbon dioxide, but they release all of
the carbon dioxides that they have stored in the atmosphere (Penman, n.d.). According to Dr. Pep
Canadell, it is estimated that due to deforestation there are 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide that is
released into the atmosphere every year (CSIRO Australia, 2007). The carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere acts as a blanket which traps the heat in the atmosphere and prevents it from leaving
which can result in an increase in temperature (Longobardi, Montenegro, Beltrami & Eby, 2016).
Water is another greenhouse gas that is affected by deforestation. Deforestation also effects the
water cycle, because trees absorb water from the soil and through the process of transpiration which
releases the water back into the atmosphere. When large areas of forests are destroyed this decreases
the amount of water that is released back into the atmosphere, therefore there is less water in the
atmosphere to be returned to the soil. This can result in affecting the weather patterns and climate
(Bradford, 2015).
Another result of deforestation is the loss or decline of animal habitats and the loss of animal
diversity (Mawalagedara & Oglesby,

Environmental deterioration in Guatemala It is a true shame, seeing what third world countries have
done to their beautiful forests. But who is one to judge, their ignorance is a result of the lack of
education and resources provided to them from more developed countries; countries, who have great
education and knowledge of what is being done to this planet. Focusing on Guatemala, only 18
percent of their people enroll into higher education(global education fund). Higher education in
Guatemala is equivalent to the first three years of high school in The United States. Is anyone really
to blame for deforestation in such a big portion of this country? There is not any one specific thing
that has created the destruction of forests. Many factors, and many years have gone into this; for an
example, agricultural expansion, natural disasters, and logging. I will be explaining how all these
factors lead to one main problem, deforestation; and how we can work on fixing this problem.

regulations that do not allow the cutting of trees in vast large amounts. This will then decrease the
problem we have with carbon dioxide levels. From now on, all we could do with that is simply plant

With new technology such as satellites systems, low altitude photography and side looking radar
scientists now figure that the world is losing about twenty million hectares of tropical forests
annually. It has been suggested that the high deforestation rates are caused partially by the fact that
the new surveys are more accurate and thus reveal old deforestation rates that were miscalculated
with previous methods (Westoby, 202). At first there was concern only among foresters about
deforestation but now the public has created organizations such as Green Peace to facilitate
increased awareness and reduce deforestation. The Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.) has
worked mainly within the forestry community to find new and better ways to manage the forests. In
1985 there was the introduction of the Tropical Forestry Action Plan or T.F.A.P. This plan involved
the F.A.O, United Nations, World Bank, other developmental agencies, and several other multi–
national government organizations; together they developed a new strategy. More than sixty
countries have decided to prepare national forestry action plans to manage their forests (Gallant,
381). Tropical deforestation has various direct causes: permanent conversion of forests to
agricultural land, logging, demand for fuel–wood, forest fires and drought. Slash and burn clearing
is the single greatest cause of tropical rain forest destruction world wide. Air

Deforestation is necessary for our survival. For instance, according to "Document 2", a secondary
source from National Geography Society, "Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them
are related to money or to people's need to provide for their families". This shows that people need
to clear forests in order to make money and we rely on trees for things like paper and pencils, so
without deforestation we would most likely die. Therefore, deforestation are necessary for our
survival. Deforestation also creates jobs. For instance, in "Document 4", a primary source from
Global deforestation according to the U.N., the annual tropical deforestation in square miles rose
from approximately 30,000 in 1990–2000 to approximately 40,000 in 2000–2005. Even though this
means more trees are cut down, this also means more jobs for people because forests are being
cleared. According to the article "Deforestation", an article from the site ic.galegroup.com, "Forests
are also cleared to make way for new infrastructure, including roadways, homes, and commercial
properties such as shopping malls. This in turn creates more jobs." Forests are cut down for
buildings and roads, and who's going to build these roads and buildings? Workers, that's who.

The biosphere of the Earth is threatened by deforestation every year due to human expansion.
Which is the act of clearing a wide area of tress to a non–forested area. Usually for either

Unfortunately, it is estimated that in 100 years, there will be no forests left. (Rinkesh. 2017)The
removal of forests can lead to imbalances ecologically, and environmentally, and it can result in a
decrease of the biosphere of the planet. As tress produce vital oxygen, and provide homes for

Studies show that tropical forests absorb almost two billion tons of carbon each year, equivalent to
1/5th of the world's carbon emissions, by storing it in their bark, leaves and soil. However, an
equivalent amount is lost through logging, clearing of land for grazing, and growing biofuel crops
such as palm oil, soya bean and sugar. Peat fires in forests add significantly to the greenhouse gas
emissions. (Greenhouse, 2014) For decades, millions of hectares of forest have been cleared with
various motives in mind. Two countries that have suffered greatly are Haiti, located on the island of
Hispaniola in the Caribbean, and Indonesia, an archipelago island country in Southeast Asia. This

environmental problems have been among the roots of Haiti's social, economic and even political

Problem Of Deforestation
Deforestation is a genocide of trees, a modern day environmental plague. The clearing of millions of
trees each day. Not only hurting the environment, but all types of animals, plants, and indigenous
peoples that survive and live off of the forests. The forests we destroy day by day.
For our own selfish reasons. Deforestation is a major problem in our day and age, by killing the
millions of trees that live on our planet, we will kill the earth. Trees are apart of our natural
environment, they produce the oxygen we all need to breathe. If we as whole continue to kill our
Earth, tree by tree. We will be faced with global desertification and many other environmental
problems. Deforestation occurs mainly because of the major increase economic development. The
increasing production of roads, cattle farming, dams, agricultural farming, and much more. The
history of land use concerning deforestation, is closely related to farming and cattle ranching. In the
Amazon, cattle ranching is a major problem resulting in the increase of deforestation. Having over
200 million cattle in the Amazon, Brazil is the leading export of cattle in the world. Cattle ranching
takes up a lot of space, so just think of all the millions of trees that have to be cut down to make
space for these humongous ranches. It's the same thing with regular farming. Small farmers will
clear a few acres of trees then burn them, just so they can have room for their farms.

RFRainforest Deforestation Impacts Air, Soil

 • 1. Rainforest Deforestation Entire ecosystems are filled with unique species, and the frightening reality is deforestation takes the habitat out from underneath its inhabitants (Bradford 2015). Forests have been cleared at a rate so astonishingly fast, that over half of all known forests have been compromised. If this type of behavior continues, the natural world will have to be given a new name, because nothing left will be "natural". Rainforests clearly have an outward benefits, from cleaning the air we breathe, to different diversity among the species who inhabit this Earth. Organismal density around the equator is exceptionally high, yet humans feel the need to clear much of that land for different use. Urbanization and the need for more agricultural space play a critical role in how much land humans clear. What we as a species forget is how all of these trees and biomes impact the world on a grander scale. Water vapor is needed to complete the water cycle, but without trees constantly humidifying the air, the cycle becomes less fluid. Sturdy trees like the ones in much of the rainforest hold the soil and anchor it from eroding. Because deforestation completely removes all the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The soil can encapsulate the air that is above it, and without trees to purify the air, deforested soil is left with some nasty, unfiltered chemicals harbored within it (Naseem 2011). Not to mention products that trees contribute to exclusively, like paper and fiber, would be in fewer supply. A driving factor in the clearing of trees for land is the need for cattle to be able to graze (Holland 2017). Cattle is an extremely ineffective way of producing food to feed the world, yet its high demand deems it a necessity. The trees that cover this planet are like natural lungs that filter out the toxins in the air, therefore, cutting down our air purifier for something as negligible as meat seems preposterous, yet it is happening at a steady rate every ... This assignment contains 2 parts; The first part contains a detailed explanation of a specific environmental problem which in this case is deforestation explored though the areas interconnectedness with Biodiversity and Conservation Biology as well as the area of Soil and Agriculture. Furthermore the first part contains a relevant environmental awareness and responsibility plan. The second part contains my own "Statement of Environmental Awareness and Responsibility" DEFORESTATION – a challenge to sustainable environment on Earth By Eric Notulu Mubuka INTRODUCTION Deforestation is commonly defined as: "the cutting down of trees on a large scale turning forests into non forests". Environmental problems. Soil erosion. In "Forests and the end of second millennium" in forests in a full world (2001) George M. Woodwell points out that the most successful civilizations have decayed as forests where destroyed and replaced with scrublands. The scrublands were further impoverished by intensive grazing and erosion until the underlying rocks emerged and became the land scape. He goes further giving an example of the ancient Syria, Persia, throughout the Levant, and the Mediterranean basin, also the decline of the state known as Greece today was as a result of loss of forests and the impoverishment of the landscape. The same process happened with respect to Carthage in North Africa. We also have contemporary examples of land degradation from Haiti and Madagascar, now over populated and deforested and degraded to the point where their land scape are dysfunctional, incapable of supporting organized society. The rivers no longer flow in established channels, water from storms in mountains appears as floods in low lands and carries silt to fill harbors and destroy the coastal fisheries, so to restore all these problems, there is need to reforest and stabilize the uplands to regain control of water flows and water quality and to re–establish a potentially ... • 3. Deforestation In Brazil Currently happening in Brazil, the most fundamental issue driving the land clearing policy in Brazil is the ongoing rapid rate of deforestation. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization date indicate that Brazil lost about 42 million ha of forest from 1990 to 2005 alone. The deforestation in the amazon can be attributed to the conversion to cattle ranches and cropland. The World Constitution Union divides protected areas into five categories depending on the intended level of human use. Brazilian Forest Code is the primary legal restriction of forest clearing on private lands. The FC has established that 50% of each property must be managed as forest reserves and retain natural composition. However, in 1996 the minimum required ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 4. Deforestation And The Global Issue Of Deforestation Needs– Human needs can be illustrated by question 2 as the Physical, environmental and social causes of deforestation are predominantly created by human needs. In turn these causes hinder sustainability. This report states that although it is important to meet the needs of humans, the needs must be satisfied in a sustainably conscious manner. For this to be achieved, direct effects of each human need must be critically analysed and understood. This paper aims to deliver this by identifying particular human actions that contribute to the global issue of deforestation. Furthermore, the paper will identify the satisfiers and individual activities that contribute to this issue of deforestation and the needs they are fulfilling. This is illustrated in question 3. This report strongly contends that Deforestation is created predominantly by Logging, Mining, Urbanisation and Agriculture. Each of these causes is initiated by human needs and in turn has detrimental effects on the environment on a global scale. Logging, which is largely apparent in many countries particularly in Asia and Africa and mining hinders the development of a sustainable environment. These issues both degrade the environment as they destroy natural habitats, reduce biodiversity, and contribute to the release of greenhouse gas emissions ("Illegal Logging," n.d). This in turn pollutes the environment, as Forests are large storages of greenhouse gases, and as a result of deforestation, these gases are released ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 5. Deforestation In Australia Deforestation in Australia What is the issue? Australia is among one of the wealthiest nations. It has a small population of almost 24million but has a high rate of extensive deforestation and degradation since the later 18th century during European settlement. Most of Australia, around 7.6million km2,is covered in dry desert unsuitable for forest growth, but the thriving coastal and hills areas have seen decline in forest cover and quality over the last 60 years, especially between 1999 and 200 where an average of 325,900 hectares were being wiped out each year. Once European colonists began to expand in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, deforestation and clearance occurred widely along the most fertile soils near the coast. Due to ... The Australian government are taking out $2.3 million to reduce and help deforestation in the Asia–pacific region. In March 2008, Kevin Rudd and PNG Prime Minister, Michael Somare signed a PNG–Australia forest carbon partnership and a month later Climate Change Minister announced $3 million to help reduce greenhouse gases emitted from deforestation. How has science helped? Through science, we have been able to see the damage that is being done through a series of different tests including testing the soil quality and water salinity levels. It has helped us monitor these levels over a number of years. Satellite readings have helped view the land that has been disturbed and see which areas have been affected by it, they also show weather readings and are able to give required information for whether the area is suitable for replantation. • 6. Danger of Deforestation The Danger of Deforestation(rough draft) By Chenghao Chen ENGL 289 Mrs. Michelle Graf 7/1/2012 It is obvious the importance of the forest vegetation to everyone in the society. However, people in the past ages did a kind of thing that they thought was very meaningful–cutting down the trees. When they recall this history, most of them cannot be restrained from their remorse and guilty to it. Trees or forest are things that not only protect the environment but also help people to live better. Destroy of forest and deforestation brings a great many of harm to the environments as well as people in the world. It is believed that forest is significantly important to both the environment and people's life. The importance of forest can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So there were many people took their tools to cut trees in 1990s in China. It was just like a fashion trend. They may use wood to produce furniture, houses, boats and they need more space to do farm work. Therefore, they have to cut trees to make it happen. Study on the main reason for deforestation is vital to the survey on the change of the forest land. The main reasons for deforestation are from two aspects, one is the state–owned forest area, and the other is collective forest area (John&Richard 1988). In fact, the amount of state–owned forest area is much larger than collective forest area. The ecological as well as financial crisis caused by the deforestation has also stayed for quite a long time. The reasons for ecological and financial crisis in state–owned forest area can be analyzed from several aspects such as, firstly, the excessive growth of the population in state–owned forest area, which makes the overburdened of the enterprises of state– owned forest area. There are about 1.3 million work forces in state–owned forest area, which may composed of one third the surplus work force this year. Secondly, over–use of the forest under the administration of state–owned forest enterprises. Thirdly, the administration systems of state–owned forest enterprises perform practically no function. • 8. Deforestation: Rubisco Imagine walking through a plot of land devoid of wildlife and plants. Hiking on land teeming with undesired tree stubs and scattered, splintered branches. Land lacking the vibrant shades of green and the wandering echoes of various packs of animals. Occasionally you may run into a lone animal searching for its family or food. Now imagine these unpleasant plots of land being left in this loathsome state because raising trees and plants took too much time. Luckily, we don't face the devastating results of deforestation on land today. But back in 2018, the issue of deforestation impacted a substantial amount of ecosystems throughout the world. So how did we reach the point where we are able to cut trees for wood and regrow them at a faster rate? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The enzyme behind this life–changing innovation is Ribulose–1,5–bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase, better known as Rubisco. Rubisco is involved in the first major step of carbon fixation, a process by which atmospheric CO2 is converted by plants and other photosynthetic organisms to energy–rich molecules. In chemical terms, rubisco catalyzes the carboxylation of ribulose–1,5–bisphosphate (also known as RuBP) ("Ribulose 1,5–Bisphosphate"). This begins three rounds of a cyclical series of reactions in which three CO2 molecules are converted into a compound called glyceraldehyde–3–phosphate, which is converted into various nutrients. RuBP is replenished at the end of each cycle. The used up ATP and NADPH are converted to ADP and NADP+, respectively, which are used for the light–dependent reactions (Cranford). The active site of rubisco is arranged around a magnesium ion held tightly by three amino acids. The exposed side of the ion is free to bind with CO2 ("PDB101: Molecule of the Month: Rubisco"). Nevertheless, Rubisco does have its limitations. Because O2 and CO2 molecules are similar in shape and chemical properties, an oxygen molecule can bind comfortably in rubisco's active site which is designated to CO2 molecules. Rubisco then attaches the oxygen to the sugar chain, forming a faulty oxygenated product. Rubisco is involved in carbon fixation in the Calvin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 9. Deforestation Is The Real Consequences Of Deforestation Forests have been around since the beginning of time. What can be conceived as just a patch of land is really an immense part of life on earth. The plants in a forest produce oxygen for humans as well as all other creatures. This land also provides a home for natural wildlife. But what would Earth look like without these forests? If the rate of deforestation continues to increase then we may have to find out the answer to that question. Deforestation is a recurring global problem which is the act of tearing down a forest to use the land for a different purpose. Today's society is so steadfast on advancement that they aren 't stepping back to look at the solutions to the problem, alternatives, nor the very real consequences of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This goes to show that even the smallest daily decisions can help benefit the environment. Some look at the benefits of deforestation, which there are some. The major reason for deforestation is agriculture. The land can be utilized as farmland and raising livestock. Another benefit of deforestation is the obvious. Wood. Everyone and their brother uses a product or byproduct of wood every day whether it being for the use of construction, the furniture in homes or the paper in notebooks. Deforestation also creates jobs. Employment is given to the individuals who cut down the trees as well as the ones who are processing them. This employment is also extended to those producing the byproducts such as pencils and paper. The cleared land can also serve as ground for potential urbanization. Crystal Lombardo makes an excellent point on this benefit of deforestation. She says"With 10 billion people expected to be on the planet by the year 2050 and no end to the growth explosion in sight, space is becoming a premium on Earth. When forests are on lands that could be used for habitation, then removing the forest creates more livable space. Homes and businesses can even be built using the products that have been removed from the biome". Although there are many benefits to deforestation, is it really worth it? • 10. Peru Deforestation Background The richly bio–diverse Madre de Dios region of Peru is subject to heavy deforestation due to illegal gold mining. With the large increase in gold prices between 2001 and 2010, the Thermatic Mapper on the Landsat 5 satellite revealed local deforestation was rising at a rate of 26% per annum (NASA 2012). The forest is cleared to allow the soil to be mined for gold. The gold is mined predominately using large petrol engine powered water pumps to blast away the soil and into a slurry. The slurry is then pumped to the top of a sluice which are covered in mats made from Astroturf or a similar material, which is coated in mercury. The soil is run down through the sluice, with the gold depositing in the mercury laced mats. Alternatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the rise of mining in the region, the population of our village grew towards the 25000 mark (Rodrigo 2014). The local economy was booming, there were shops, hostels, bars and gas stations. The mining seemed to be a blessing for the area as prior to this, there was very little income available for the local people. The recent government crackdown on illegal mining operations and numerous raids on the district has destroyed the local economy. Gas supplies have been cut off (Rodrigo 2014), police and army personnel came and destroyed outlying villages and machinery. Since then the village has imploded, with most stores closing and gold buyers leaving. Now there are only about 3000 people left in Huepetuhe (Rodrigo 2014), many people are now trying to return to more traditional way of living, only to find the extent of the destruction to the forest the mining has caused. The water is poisoned, which in turn has poisoned the fish (CAMEP 2013). The land that has been mined is unusable due to soil contamination and now is just hills and holes, it's not farmable, it's just a wasteland. The short term gain that was the mining boom has well and truly passed, leaving a hideous environmental scar that may never recover. Now our villagers need to travel further to source uncontaminated food and water sources or face the risk of becoming sick, which might eventually see our traditional home perish as it becomes harder to find the basic necessities ... • 13. Deforestation In Japan By the year 1570, Japan's population had reached 10 million. This spike in the population and the continuous need for the natural resources led to a very serious environmental issue for Japan. For the first time, the country was faced with widespread deforestation. Deforestation was not entirely new. As long ago as 600 AD there had been localized deforestation, mainly in the Kinai region, as the wood there was required for houses, war or even monuments. This didn't become a serious problem at first as Japan's population was quite small and there were plenty of forests to use. In fact, most of the population at that time encouraged deforestation so that they could use the cleared land for farming and to make forest growth products such as fertilizers. ... • 14. Eassy On Deforestation Deforestation is a commonly known environmental issue across our world today, yet still has a long posed threat to our earth. Deforestation is a permanent process of humans removing a forest or stand of trees where the land is later converted to a non–forest use. The forest covers over 30% of our planets land, and the ecosystems they create are essential for life. Not not only do forests produce vital oxygen but provides homes and shelter for people and wildlife. Forests provide a habitat for over 80% of the animals living on land and even for a large majority of humans, who rely on rainforests for their daily food. In addition they provide protection from flooding and sandstorms. But, deforestation is utterly diminishing them, at an extremely fast rate. It is estimated that 4 to 6,000 rainforest species go extinct each year. Deforestation occurs in different places around the world, tropical rainforests however are the most common and targeted areas. The tropical forests are forests that span both sides of the Equator and they are the most. They are the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. Brazil has the highest rate in the world, since 1970 over 600,000 square kilometres of the Amazon Rainforest has been destroyed. At the current rate of destruction, 100 years from now our forests could completely disappear. In the Amazon for example, around 20% of the forests have been completely destroyed in the last 50 years, only due to forest conversion for cattle ranching. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 15. Deforestation In Brazil During the previous years, one of the biggest threats the world as a whole faces is the destruction of our environment, mainly through deforestation. Deforestation is the destruction of forests in order to increase land usage for agriculture, grazing and urban development. Generally forest clearers cut or burn the trees to clear land. Deforestation is one of the major causes of environmental problems in Brazil with the rate it is developing. Brazil's development is coming at a time when scientists believe that the loss of the Amazon's forests, the Atlantic forest and the Cerrado will affect the way the planet functions. Little deforestation had occurred in Brazil's Amazon before the 1970s, after 1970 the rate of deforestation increased significantly and about 12.5 million hectares of Amazonian land was deforested by 1980 (Moran, 1). "According to the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (BNIS), by August 2007, the deforested area in the Brazilian Legal Amazon reached 700 thousand square km, which represent 14% of its geographic area"(Araujo et al). The geographic distribution of deforestation among the Amazon states has been unequal. Through 1988 to 2007, deforestation was concentrated in the northern areas of the state of Mato Grosso and the southern areas of Para and Rondonia. These three states are respectively responsible for 36%, 32% and 14% of total deforestation in the Legal Amazon. Brazil's Trans–Amazonian Highway is another huge project that has increased the rate of deforestation throughout the Amazon Forest. • 16. The Deforestation Of The Amazons Deforestation The Amazons Deforestation Have your eyes ever set on a barren land where even technology can't reverse the damage we have caused? We care mostly for the present, but we must never forget to see to the future and in this case the deforestation of the Amazons. "Deforestation is considered the second largest anthropogenic source of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere" (Song et al. 2). Each day we are wiping out miles of trees from one of our most diverse ecosystems in the planet, and one of our largest "lungs" in the world. At our rate of destruction of the rainforest, we would have inflicted in our future a great disservice, as the trees cut down would no longer give us clean air and more CO2 would pollute our air. CO2 can have a negative impact on our health. As we breathe in this air, it can lead to lung cancer and other diseases. By destroying the Amazon ecosystem we could drive many exclusive species that only live in the Amazon to extinction. Will we know the harm we have caused right away? Probably not, but we will definitely find out sooner rather than later. The cause of the Amazon deforestation is due to our need for wood to stay warm, and for developing countries to use it for fuel. Our top priority in conserving the Amazons is the unforeseen environmental impact that can be caused to our planet and to us. • 19. Deforestation In Rainforests Rich black soil, towering tropical trees, the distant sound of a hollering monkey and the smell of damp leaves paint the picture of a tropical rainforest. The most famous and valuable tropical forests include the Amazon, Congo Basin, Indonesia and the forests of the Russian Far East and have been debated as endangered for decades. These rainforests mainly differ in soils, geology, precipitation patterns, the wildlife which resides there but all share the abundance of natural wealth including sturdy woods, medicines and spices and are sought out by many. However the long debated question still stands if deforestation is something of the past or an on going and current threat. Deforestation is defined as the intentional or natural clearance of forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land and adverse environment effects. () Today forests still cover roughly 30% of the worlds land area however this number is sure to dwindle down due to the loss of 46–58 thousand square miles annually, equivalent to approximately 48 footballs fields every minute." (WWF) The decline in trees translates for loss of habitat and homes for the millions of exotic creatures which call rainforests for example the Amazon, home. The Amazon alone is home to more than two–thirds of the 1.4 million species known to man however this is not even close to the extent of the wealth the drizzly rainforest has to offer. (Rothbard, David and Craig Rucker) Species who's habitats are threatened by deforestation are often unable to prosper in the small forested acres left behind. Therefore species become vulnerable to trophy hunters or poachers causing numbers to begin to dwindle, some eventually succumbing to extinction. Even a lighter non commercial local deforestation can result in extinctions due to many unique species living in small isolated parts of the rainforests across the globe. (WWF) According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) affected species includes: giant pandas, tigers, rhinos, orangutans, Asian elephant, many species of apes like the gorilla and the Amur leopard (WWF). "When areas of rainforests are destroyed, it's not just the trees that disappear." It's time for the government to take action on deforestation. Rainforests are an important location for indigenous people and animals because that's where their home belongs. Yet the government and organizations ignore those facts and just demolish their homes in order to gain a new location for productions. It's a topic that's constantly debated in politics and society should take a recognition on what's happening in deforestation. More than half of the world's rainforests are destroyed and is in danger by humans, therefore, the government shouldn't allow deforestation anymore in order to save the remaining rainforests in the environment because it affects habitats, species, and indigenous people. Loss of habitats is an evident threat in the rainforest as the facilities continue to form new funds to buildings and resources. In deforestation, people can profit and revenue on the resources to inhibit for society to use. They profit on the resources they sell to other countries after they obtain the sources they received from the rainforests. Rather than the facilities looking at a profit for their own benefits, the destruction of the land will cause the species to never return back nor will it provide shelter for them in their adapting habitat. • 24. Causes Of Deforestation Deforestation conflicts and Solutions The population in the majority of countries around the world is increasing, which places pressure on local economies to yield additional food or clear additional land for urban developmental urgencies such as housing and commerce, which leads to a method called deforestation. Cutting down forests not only generates revenue from sales such as that of timber, but also clears land for use in development. On the other hand, forests are vital fragments of local and global ecosystems. Cutting down forests, especially jungles and rain forests, often threatens not only species of wildlife but also decreases oxygen for us and ultimately contributes to dangerous factors such as global warming. Therefore, we have two stakeholders, one that believes in development, and one that believes in preservation. The points of view that are taken from both of these stakeholders may seem incompatible; however, the compromise of deforestation can be implemented through Eco–forestry, land use planning, and Reforestation. The developmental stakeholder mentioned above, wants just that, development. They are regular citizens who wish to use the forests trees and land to expand urbanization and to use its sources beneficially. For instance, every year the rainforests are slowly disappearing due to deforestation which is the permanent clearing of earth's forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land in order to make the land available for other uses. This can be done legally and illegally. There are many reasons why trees are remove from a forest. Some of these reasons are to cover needs or to make a profit. However, the biggest causes of deforestation are agricultural, logging operations and growth of urban zones. Often, small farmers will clear a few acres by cutting down trees and burning them in a process known as slash and burn agriculture. Some are caused by a combination of human and natural factors like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing, which may prevent the growth of young trees. Logging operations, which provide the world's wood and paper products, also cut countless trees each year. Loggers, some of them acting illegally, also build roads to access more remote forests which leads to further deforestation. But when trees get cut down not only do they stop absorbing carbon dioxide, but they release all of the carbon dioxides that they have stored in the atmosphere (Penman, n.d.). According to Dr. Pep Canadell, it is estimated that due to deforestation there are 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere every year (CSIRO Australia, 2007). The carbon dioxide in the atmosphere acts as a blanket which traps the heat in the atmosphere and prevents it from leaving which can result in an increase in temperature (Longobardi, Montenegro, Beltrami & Eby, 2016). Water is another greenhouse gas that is affected by deforestation. Deforestation also effects the water cycle, because trees absorb water from the soil and through the process of transpiration which releases the water back into the atmosphere. When large areas of forests are destroyed this decreases the amount of water that is released back into the atmosphere, therefore there is less water in the atmosphere to be returned to the soil. This can result in affecting the weather patterns and climate (Bradford, 2015). Many factors, and many years have gone into this; for an example, agricultural expansion, natural disasters, and logging. I will be explaining how all these factors lead to one main problem, deforestation; and how we can work on fixing this problem. Deforestation is known to be the cutting of trees is vast amounts. To explain the relevance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here the problem is deforestation, the solution is reforestation. But one can not just simply create "reforestation", that is a vague term, that cannot be simply created. We must begin with the root of this problem, and pull it completely out for it to stop growing. We must begin by placing rules and regulations that do not allow the cutting of trees in vast large amounts. This will then decrease the problem we have with carbon dioxide levels. From now on, all we could do with that is simply plant more trees. Guatemala is a third world country, so it would need donations from more developed countries. More local people benefit than not from the cutting of trees, so it is in our hands to stop the cutting of trees and possibly replant new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 35. Deforestation Essay Deforestation Thesis: Deforestation is one of the most significant issues of our time; considerable measures must be taken to prevent further pillaging of our unique forest resource. Ninety percent of the earth's trees between three and four hundred years old have been cut down. The remaining ten percent is all we will ever have (Gallant, 97). The definition of deforestation by the Random House Dictionary of the English Language is "to divest or clear of forests or trees." With new technology such as satellites systems, low altitude photography and side looking radar scientists now figure that the world is losing about twenty million hectares of tropical forests annually. It has been suggested that the high deforestation rates are caused partially by the fact that the new surveys are more accurate and thus reveal old deforestation rates that were miscalculated with previous methods (Westoby, 202). At first there was concern only among foresters about deforestation but now the public has created organizations such as Green Peace to facilitate increased awareness and reduce deforestation. The Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.) has worked mainly within the forestry community to find new and better ways to manage the forests. In 1985 there was the introduction of the Tropical Forestry Action Plan or T.F.A.P. This plan involved the F.A.O, United Nations, World Bank, other developmental agencies, and several other multi– national government organizations; together they developed a new strategy. More than sixty countries have decided to prepare national forestry action plans to manage their forests (Gallant, 381). Tropical deforestation has various direct causes: permanent conversion of forests to agricultural land, logging, demand for fuel–wood, forest fires and drought. Slash and burn clearing is the single greatest cause of tropical rain forest destruction world wide. Air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 36. Dbq Deforestation Deforestation is when people cut down and clear forests for logging, agriculture, and mining. Many people believe that deforestation has a positive impact on society. They say this because deforestation can create things people need to survive, and deforestation creates jobs. On the other hand, deforestation has a negative effect on society. Deforestation harms animals and plants, can wipe out entire forests which are important to us all, and intensifies global warming. Deforestation has a negative impact on our environment and should be limited. Deforestation has a negative effect on our environment and should be limited. Deforestation is necessary for our survival. For instance, according to "Document 2", a secondary source from National Geography Society, "Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are related to money or to people's need to provide for their families". This shows that people need to clear forests in order to make money and we rely on trees for things like paper and pencils, so without deforestation we would most likely die. Therefore, deforestation are necessary for our survival. Deforestation also creates jobs. For instance, in "Document 4", a primary source from Global deforestation according to the U.N., the annual tropical deforestation in square miles rose from approximately 30,000 in 1990–2000 to approximately 40,000 in 2000–2005. Even though this means more trees are cut down, this also means more jobs for people because forests are being cleared. According to the article "Deforestation", an article from the site ic.galegroup.com, "Forests are also cleared to make way for new infrastructure, including roadways, homes, and commercial properties such as shopping malls. This in turn creates more jobs." Forests are cut down for buildings and roads, and who's going to build these roads and buildings? Workers, that's who. Despite all of this, deforestation is still terrible because the losses outweigh the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 37. Environmental Deforestation The biosphere of the Earth is threatened by deforestation every year due to human expansion. Which is the act of clearing a wide area of tress to a non–forested area. Usually for either agricultural uses, paper usage, or wasteland. Over 30% of the Earth is currently covered in forests. Unfortunately, it is estimated that in 100 years, there will be no forests left. (Rinkesh. 2017)The removal of forests can lead to imbalances ecologically, and environmentally, and it can result in a decrease of the biosphere of the planet. As tress produce vital oxygen, and provide homes for wildlife, and over 1.6 billion people, including medicine, fresh water, and food. Agriculture uses, illegal logging, fires, and fuel wood harvesting are some of the main causes of deforestation. Mainly resulting in reduced biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, the disruption of water cycles, soil erosion, and impacts on species and plants survival. In order to save our planet, and halt the removal of forests, solutions such as hemp farming, and land re–purposing need to be issued, and put in place. The consequences to the ecosystem and its human and animal residents, due to the threats it faces, could alter our planet, and way of life. (World Wildlife Fund. 2017) The four main research groups that are working to provide a better future by helping to stop deforestation, are the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), The Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), Global Forest Watch Climate, and the Natural Resource ... • 38. Deforestation In Hispaniola Studies show that tropical forests absorb almost two billion tons of carbon each year, equivalent to 1/5th of the world's carbon emissions, by storing it in their bark, leaves and soil. However, an equivalent amount is lost through logging, clearing of land for grazing, and growing biofuel crops such as palm oil, soya bean and sugar. Peat fires in forests add significantly to the greenhouse gas emissions. (Greenhouse, 2014) For decades, millions of hectares of forest have been cleared with various motives in mind. Two countries that have suffered greatly are Haiti, located on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean, and Indonesia, an archipelago island country in Southeast Asia. This report will discuss the omnipresent environmental problem these countries endure, the reasoning and rational behind these decisions, and the impacts and consequences these actions face. The consequences of deforestation are becoming more drastic each year. Historically, deforestation has been the most rapid in the Caribbean. Figure 1 shows the decrease in forest cover in Haiti from 1990 thru 2005. The total change in land cover between 1990 and 2005 was –9.48%. Severe environmental problems have been among the roots of Haiti's social, economic and even political crises. Haiti is catastrophically deforested, topsoil has been eroded, and there are zones of galloping desertification. Beginning in about 1954, concessionaires stepped up their logging operations, in response to Port–au–Prince's intensified demand for charcoal, thus accelerating deforestation, which had already become a problem because of environmentally unsound agricultural practices, rapid population growth, and increased competition over scarce land. • 39. Problem Of Deforestation Deforestation is a genocide of trees, a modern day environmental plague. The clearing of millions of trees each day. Not only hurting the environment, but all types of animals, plants, and indigenous peoples that survive and live off of the forests. The forests we destroy day by day. For our own selfish reasons. Deforestation is a major problem in our day and age, by killing the millions of trees that live on our planet, we will kill the earth. Trees are apart of our natural environment, they produce the oxygen we all need to breathe. If we as whole continue to kill our Earth, tree by tree. We will be faced with global desertification and many other environmental problems. Deforestation occurs mainly because of the major increase economic development. The increasing production of roads, cattle farming, dams, agricultural farming, and much more. The history of land use concerning deforestation, is closely related to farming and cattle ranching. In the Amazon, cattle ranching is a major problem resulting in the increase of deforestation. Having over 200 million cattle in the Amazon, Brazil is the leading export of cattle in the world. Cattle ranching takes up a lot of space, so just think of all the millions of trees that have to be cut down to make space for these humongous ranches. It's the same thing with regular farming. Small farmers will clear a few acres of trees then burn them, just so they can have room for their farms. Hutto 2 This is called slash and burn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
