• The number of sixth grade students achieving the advanced
band in mathematics increased by 20% during their years at
Race Brook.
• Sixth grade students attaining goal or above in reading
increased by 17% and students scoring advanced increased
by 10% during their years at Race Brook.
• Grade five students scoring at goal and above in reading has
increased 16% since third grade.

• 88% of students receiving Tier 2 or Tier 3 reading support

During the 2013-2014 school year 82% of students will at least maintain
yearly growth and 18% of students will improve by one band as
measured by the STAR Literacy tool.
Rationale:
• This reading goal is aligned with the Orange Public School Mission
Statement which is to inspire and empower each student to achieve
academic excellence and provide powerful academic challenges.

grades 1 and 2 met the benchmark.

parents agreeing that they feel they can always contact a
teacher at their child's school and receive communication in
a timely manner will improve form 77% to 85%.
Rationale
• During the 2012-2013 school year 77% of parents responded
that they felt they could always contact their child's teacher.
• Additionally, during the 2012 - 2013 school year, 22% of
parents felt that they could often contact the teacher at
school.
• The home school connection is crucial to the success of each
student and parents should feel as though they can
communicate with a teacher and receive a response in a
reasonable amount of time.

• Include examples for communicating with the school staff in
Friday blasts and correspondence to families.
• Provide opportunities for communication through events
sponsored by the Race Brook School PTA.
• Publically recognize methods of communicating with the
school during assemblies and events.
• Include the topic of ‘home/school communication’ in faculty
meetings .
• One time per month send home a newsletter centered on
the topic of the importance of the home/school connection.

who agree that they feel safe while in school will increase
from 73% to 80%.
Rationale
• During the 2012-2013 school year only 73% of students said
they feel safe in school.
• Additionally, during the 2012 - 2013 school year, 26% of
students felt safe only some of time.
• To establish a positive school climate that facilitates a
healthy well being among students and improve student
achievement.

• Develop a brief student questionnaire to determine why
students don't feel safe at school.
• Analyze feedback from questionnaire to develop school wide
procedures/lessons that address student fears.
