• Used stethoscopes to listen to heart
beats
• Checked their own pulse (at rest and
after exercise)
• Used a pulse oximeter to monitor their
oxygen saturation levels
• Dissected a pig's heart.

Grade 6 students
• Looked at all 206 bones in the
human body
• Analyzed and handled both a healthy
human lung and a smoker’s lung
• Yale continues to look for curricular
connections.

11. Race Brook Pennies for Peck
Two Race Brook School brothers drove by
Peck Place School and saw the dumpsters.
They decided they wanted to help.
Soliciting the support of the Race Brook
Student Council, the school ran a drive called
“Pennies for Peck” and collected $386
to help replace lost materials.

15. Governor’s Reading Challenge
• Race Brook was one of 14 elementary
schools
• Based on # of summer reading books
• Friday, May 9th at the State Library

17. Peck Update
• Most of the contractors are finishing --
painting, new ceilings, new lighting, etc.
• Flooring is being delivered (white tile)
• Plans for univents, cabinetry, and roof
passed State and local review.
• Univents and cabinetry went out to bid
(RFP) yesterday
• Roof will go out soon
• Will award contracts in about 2 weeks
• Work will begin shortly thereafter
