2. The Optional Traditional School provides a structured and time-tested educational climate
for those students who perform best with such an environment. Within this framework, the
Traditional Optional School will stress:
▪ Mastery of skills in listening, reading, penmanship, grammar-usage, composition, spelling and
mathematics.
▪ Study and understanding of history, government, geography, literature, economics, sciences,
foreign languages (grades 9-12), and the fine arts.
▪ Development and extension of logical reasoning, inquiry and analysis.
▪ Physical development in personal health, physical fitness, and recreational and competitive
sports.
▪ Traditional concepts of patriotism, courtesy, moral values, and respect for individual and
property rights.
▪ Clearly established codes of conduct and dress, and rules of operation.
Purpose
3. Philosophy
The Traditional School promotes:
▪ Self-discipline and self-direction.
▪ Required acceptance of clearly established teacher and school guidelines.
▪ Parental attitudes of agreement and support of school expectations.
▪ Approval of the school by the home will help the student adopt good personal and
academic practices.
▪ There should be close ties and communication between school and home.
▪ The Traditional school does not believe that all education is or can be made to be
fun or interesting. The achievement is the reward and the program is aimed at
teaching self-discipline.
4. ▪ “In its early days, the formation of the Traditional Program took place in spite of the
efforts of many educational authorities to block it. It was something that parents
wanted and they were not to be denied. In some respects, this feeling of fighting for
one’s life has never left us. We are supported because parents, students, and the
community have chosen to support us. Should we lose that treasured support, we
will DIE.”
▪ “Parents and teachers work together for the good of the students.”
▪ “To provide the necessary programs, training, and qualified and supportive
personnel to motivate all students to achieve according to their individual learning
patterns and rates of growth in order to realize their maximum potentials
intellectually, economically and socially, culturally and physically.”
▪ “Students graduating from Traditional High School will be expected to possess the
skills and knowledge necessary for entry into the job market, to attend college, or to
attend a post-secondary school or institute for additional training.”

12. Student Withdrawal From
Male Traditional
▪ Students new to the Traditional Program need a stabilizing period in which to adjust
to the climate of the program. The Traditional Program is a graded structure, and
the students who fall behind may be indicating that the program does not adequately
meet their needs.
▪ Before withdrawal, intervention strategies will be designed to meet the need(s) of
individual students (e.g. tutoring, outside agency evaluation, home-school
contingency plan, and/or outside counseling.)
▪ Release from Louisville Male High Traditional and transfer to a more appropriate
placement may occur for one or more of the following reasons:
▪ Continued, serious breaches of accepted discipline (Parents will be contacted when these
occur.)
▪ Overall lack of student academic progress (Parents will have been notified of problems in
this area.)
13. Student Withdrawal From
Male Traditional
▪ Parent’s unwillingness to accept the Traditional Program options/constraints.

be encouraged to seek admissions into a school where they can be successful.
▪ When it is necessary to place a student in a more appropriate school,
the principal of the Traditional School will contact the principal of the
receiving school, and they shall mutually agree upon the date that the
student is to be transferred. No student shall be transferred in the
middle of a grading period unless the receiving principal agrees.
14. Dear Ol’ High School Fight Song
Let’s give a rah for Dear Ol’ High School
And let us pledge our love of old
Others may like white or crimson
But for us it’s purple and gold
Let all our troubles be forgotten
Let High School spirit rule
We’ll join and give our loyal efforts
For the good of our dear school
It’s Dear Ol’ High School
It’s Dear Ol’ High School
The pride of all the folks round here
Come on, you old grad
Join with us young lads
It’s LMHS now we cheer
Now is the time boys
To make a big noise
About Kentucky’s finest school
For there is naught to fear
The gang’s all here
So hail to Dear Ol’ High School HAIL!
