Semantics is the study of meanings of words, phrases and sentences. Conceptual meanings convey the literal use of a word and its basic essential components, while associative meanings involve additional connotations or associations attached to a word. In language, the agent performs the action, the theme is involved in or affected by the action, the experiencer designates an entity experiencing a feeling or perception, and the source and goal refer to where an entity moves from and to, respectively. There are eight types of lexical relations discussed.
