Questionnaire analysis
1. Today’s ‘to do’ list
•If you haven't completed your questionnaire, finish it
NOW!
•If you don’t yet have results, now might be a good time
to ask your class mates to complete your
questionnaires.
•If you have a set of results from your questionnaire,
you need to start your analysis (see me for a sheet).
2. Presenting and analysing your
questionnaire data
Now that you have ‘raw’ data from your
questionnaire, you need to process it so that it
is easy to read and, thus, easy to use to make
design decisions. To this you will produce a
set of graphs and charts along with a brief
written analysis for each question.
3. Open a Word document
• The first thing to do is to write your title, Audience Research Analysis will do for us.
• Then, write ‘Question One’ in bold.
• Next, click on insert chart and choose the type of chart you would like to use.
• At this point you need to tally up the answers from your first question, giving each
option a total.
• You then need to input this data into the spread sheet that has popped up. Each option
has a space in column one of the chart and the number of people that chose it goes in
column two.
• Finally, write the question in full in the field at the top of the chart.
• Close the spreadsheet and word will have created a chart displaying your data for you.
• You then need to write a short description of the results and what you will do on your
product in reaction to them.
4. Here is an example of what it may look
like.
What colours would you like to Of the twenty people surveyed, half of
see on a surfing magazine front them (10) stated that they would like to
cover? see the colour blue used on the front
cover of a surfing magazine. Another six
stated that they would like to see red and
three mentioned green. In reaction to
Blue
this, I will ensure that blue is a dominant
Red
Green
colour on my front cover and that red is
Purple used at some point, possibly as a font
colour. Only one person stated that they
would like to see purple and, as such, I
will disregard this colour when creating
my front cover.
Remember that this is your data and your analysis so use the
options in word to make it look unique; the examiner will not
want thirty pieces of analysis that all look the same!
5. This is important!
If you haven’t yet asked your questionnaire to
at least twenty people, you must have done so
by next lesson (Wednesday Period One) so
that you can analyse your data before you get
too far into your planning.
