From his preliminary task to the final Hip Hop magazine, the student learned:
1) New skills in Photoshop, like manipulating image size, cropping, deleting layers, and screen grabs, which allowed him to improve the magazine's appearance.
2) Hip Hop magazine covers typically feature a white, plain background and consistent font colors, based on his analysis of real magazine covers.
3) His final magazine looks more professional than the preliminary task because it has more text, secondary images, and a bold masthead that grabs attention.

Francesca Gottschalk from the OECD’s Centre for Educational Research and Innovation presents at the Ask an Expert Webinar: How can education support child empowerment?
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. Looking back at your preliminary
task, what have you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to
the full product?
2. Comparing the Magazines
My preliminary task is on the left and my Hip Hop magazine is on the right. My Hip Hop magazine looks more
like a magazine than the preliminary task. This is because it has more verbal communication than the
preliminary task. This makes it look more like a magazine as magazines have lots of writing and information. My
Hip Hop magazine looks more like a magazine than my preliminary task. This is because my preliminary task has
a background of lightning and my Hip Hop magazine has a white, plain background. The lightning will most likely
distract the audience from looking at the content and models however, my Hip Hop magazine has a white, plain
background which brings the focus of the audience on the main image, masthead, content etc.
3. More bolder and noticeable font on the
masthead. This grabs the attention of the
audience. Unlike the preliminary task which
has not got a bold masthead.
Not much
information the
magazine. look
This makes it
unprofessional.
The web address is not noticeable in
this magazine. This is because the font
is not bold are large in size.
The masthead is ineffective and does not stand
out. This is because it is camouflaged with the
background. This makes it unnoticeable and
disables it form catching the attention of the
audience.
The font is big and bold
which grabs the eye of the
audience. This enables the
audience to receive
information and know what
the magazine’s contents
has.
The strap line is
large and black
with a white
background.
This stands out
to the audience
My Hip Hop magazine has three secondary images
with polaroids. This makes my magazine cover
look more professional. In result it looks more like
a magazine than my preliminary task.
4. New skills learnt
After I finished my preliminary task I started learning new skills on how to use
Photoshop. This allowed me to improve the appearance of my Hip Hop magazine. From
me gaining experience of using Photoshop I was then able to manipulate things within
my magazine cover. The main things I learnt throughout the process was new skills on
Photoshop such as how to manipulate the size of images, how to crop images, how to
delete layers on Photoshop, how to do a screen grab.
5. Things I learnt about Hip Hop
Magazine Covers
I learnt a lot about Hip Hop magazine covers from the time I did the preliminary task to my Hip
Hop magazine. I learnt that Hip Hop magazine covers usually include a white, plain
background and similar font colours around the magazine cover. The two images below are
two magazine covers that I have analyzed after my preliminary task.
6. Hip Hop analysis
In this image I analyzed this Hip Hop magazine cover after my preliminary task.
