How can I attract/address the target audience within my magazine?
1. How did I attract/address
my target audience…
With my Music Magazine.
2. My Target Audience…
• Is teenagers within the age group of 13-19.
• It appeals to males and females; the content
features males, which may appeal to females.
• Music lovers; the genre of Indie/Classic
Rock specifically.
3. How did I attract this audience?
The composition of the models to the focus
point.
As seen on my magazine, Lewis is positioned
in the centre third of the page. This attracts a Lin
e
buyer because this is the position of which
the human eye naturally focus’ on first.
The way in which is attracts the target
audience is it offers eye contact, which could Centre
appeal to females
[Mulvey’s male gaze theory].
The use of lines is also effective on my cover
in terms of attracting the audience. For the
boys are positioned in a way that the line
falls down to the left, finishing at Luke (far
left) whom is the lead singer of the band. I
had intentionally placed him this way to
attract the desired affect.
4. Mode of address…
Mode of address explains how the
addresser (magazine) & addressee
(audience) are constructed.

The camera angle of which this shot
was taken shows a low angle shot.
The mode of address within this
photograph suggests that the
audience are inferior, the band has to
look down on them to show they are
superior/main focus point due to the
low angle shot presented.
The audience becomes a passive
looker.
5. Quotes from target audience…
I had asked people from my target audience (teenagers aged 13-19)
how my magazine attracted them and how it addressed them as the
target audience:
Alice (17): “The magazine attracted me because of the photo on the
cover. I would of preferred it in color, but the boys are good looking
and I noticed because they are all looking at me and they are center
of attention”.
Blake (14): “I think the magazine addressed me because, I am a
teenage boy who enjoys rock music, like the guys on the front, so I
can relate to them. The way they look/dress is like me”.
Gina (18): “I defiantly think your magazine represents the target
audience. Those boys you used for the cover, their clothes and
physical appearance, they just look like typical teenagers”.
Harry (17): “I like the way your magazine is photographed in black
& white, it gives it an old feel for sure. It appeals to us as the
audience, gives it a ‘indie’ look defiantly”.
