Question 3: What kind of media
institution might distribute your
media product and why?
Why might my product be suitable for
independent film companies?
The independent film company that I believe would
distribute my film would be Revolver Entertainment. I
believe this to be the case because they tend to distribute
directorial debuts often. For example, Ill Manors (2012) that
was directed by Ben Drew and is set in the back streets of
London which is similar to my film and is all about different
groups of people coming together. So following the success
of this film, with the profit of £353,570, I believe that they
would want to partake in my film as it could have very
similar outcome to Ill Manors.
Another film which Revolver Entertainment
distributed is Offender (2012). This again is a
film that follows a working class 20 year old
male so it is very similar to my film and so I
believe that they would distribute my film.
These films, as well as mine, all involve
disillusioned males, weapons and gang warfare
so it is some thing they would be interested in.
Why might my product be suitable for
independent film companies?
Why might my product be suitable for
independent film companies?
Revolver have already distributed films similar to mine
so I wouldn’t be involving them into a new genre of
films. However they have only just started distributing
these kind of films that are based in working class
London so I believe it could open them up to a bigger
range of audience if my film were to become well
known. As they’ve just started distributing films of my
genre, and they're getting a good reception for them, I
believe there to be a good chance that they would
distribute my film because I could be the next in line to
have a film like Ill Manors or Offender.
Why might my product be suitable for
independent film companies?
It would also be good to use Revolver because it
seems that they use the same actors well which
could prove useful. For example, Adam Deacon
is in the film Anuvahood, 2011, (distributed by
Revolver) and he stars in Ill manors as well so it
could be very good as they seem to have their
own actors.
Why would an independent film company have
more chance of distributing my media product.
Having my film distributed by an independent company like
Revolver Entertainment would be much more likely to
having it distribute by the a large conglomerate like Warner
Bros. This could be because as I haven't produced/ directed
any other films before then an independent film company
will be more inclined to distribute my film.
Why would an independent film company have
more chance of distributing my media product.
Also having my film distributed by a smaller
company like Revolver could be a great way of
getting my name out there. For example,
Momentum Pictures Home Entertainment
distributed the film Monsters which had a great
reception, as a result of this, the director Gareth
Edwards, is now directing Warner Bros film
Godzilla (2014) so it’s just a staring point and
hopefully I could follow Edwards.
