 The title of my magazine
 I like the name ‘mix mag’ as mix connotes mixing songs like a DJ would. With
that in mind I changed my masthead from ‘rhythm house’ which adds a musical
element to my magazine. I followed the typical convention of the real media
product and ensure my title took up the entire top of the magazine. I did this as
it will be the first thing the audience/consumer sees.
 Mise en scene of the images
 My main image shows a sense of class and stylishness. The makeup isn't very
complex but it creates a clean and pretty image to my model. The setting is
quite simplistic making you focus on the models face. I wanted to include a
simple setting to ensure that the image wasn’t over powered and that the
model was the first thing to catch you eye .The clothing used also shows a
classy presentation of my model where the white shirt looks simple yet smart.
This contributes to the high class image I wanted for my magazine .
 Costumes and Props
 Considering my magazine follows the genre of house, I had to choose
clothing that would suit this specific genre. After researching magazines
and people who were considered to be in that genre I started to make
plans on what my model would look like. Within my first shoot, I used
two outfits, after researching into what majority of real house artists
would wear, I learnt that it is mainly clothing that are simplistic colours
like black or white but are made more interesting with the use of props.
For the first outfit my model whore a smart white shirt which gave a
classy element to the images and made the model look professional.
The second outfit which is used on my double page spread is a plain
black tracksuit which gives a plain yet effective vibe. I followed the
convention of plain clothing so that it didn’t dominate the picture and it
complimented the house image of looking professional not childish. I
used headphones as a prop in most of the photos I took because I
noticed in my research that they was used in other magazines. I got my
model to use the headphones in different ways to make the images look
different e.g. round the neck, holding them or one ear and off the other.
 People
 My model had the image I wanted to be used in my music magazine seen as he looks like a
professional DJ in his image. His hair looks quite voluemized but soft which gives him a
pretty image. Sometimes he is of good stature connoting confidence, however other times
he is energetic connoting a care free attitude and his willingness to party. I got my model to
show no expression in some images which was used to show his seriousness and his
professional image. This then creates an involvement with the audience and shows how
serious the model can look. Direct address is a common convention of music magazines so I
had my models do this in all of their photos.
 Location
 My location was quite plain, I chose this for a reason to ensure that the focus wasn’t taken
away from my models face. From looking at other magazines I understood that if the artist
was the main focus it is essential that the background doesn’t dominate the photo so we
can still admire the facial features and expressions. From using photographs similar to that
of the ones I have taken is very typical in many music magazines- shown below, you can see
that these magazines use a range of shots taken behind a blank background; like I have
done within my magazine. I am therefore following the typical convention for locations in
real magazines.
Title font & style
 I have attempted to use continuity throughout my magazine, I used the same font for my
title on the front cover, contents and double page spread. I felt that by doing this I was
making it seem more professional and realistic. The style of font I chose was bold with a
simple vibe, created on www.dafont.com. I chose to keep the colour black seen is my colour
scheme was simple colours with reed in places.
 Written Content
 Usually on the front cover, the first written content is the editors comment, I decided not
to include one on my magazine, these are considered something personal that gives the
reader an insight to what awaits them within the magazine. I challenged this convention by
not including someone. I then made the decision to change the layout and style to ensure it
didn’t look overcrowded and appeared professional and easy to navigate around. The main
part of my written content was my interview on my double page spread where I chose
realistic questions to show an interview with a celeb. by doing so I think I was able to
connect with the target audience better and draw them in.
