This document discusses requirements and options for developing a low-power home hub to connect various smart devices and cloud services using different protocols. It evaluates several hardware platforms for the hub including the OpenKontrol, SK Pang Gateway, Nanode, BeagleBone and Raspberry Pi. Key requirements for the hub include supporting modular protocols, local wireless technologies like Zigbee and cloud APIs, being low cost, low power and open source. Tests show issues with memory constraints, library support and power management across platforms for a fully functional home hub.
