Throughout the decade, London fashion evolved from austerity to include "ready-to-wear" clothing, new fabrics, and trends like the Teddy Boy look for men and Mary Quant's designs for women.

The Peasants Revolt of 1381 was a major uprising across England sparked by a poll tax and social tensions following the Black Death. The Black Death had killed millions and caused a labor shortage, which led to demands for higher wages from peasants. When the poll tax was imposed, Wat Tyler emerged to lead thousands of peasants in marching on London, where they destroyed the Savoy Palace and killed the Archbishop of Canterbury. King Richard II agreed to meet with Tyler but Tyler was killed in the negotiations, after which the king hanged 200 rebel leaders to put down the revolt.
The Stuart Kings And Queens
The House of Stuart ruled England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1603 to 1714. Key Stuart monarchs included James I, who inherited the throne from Elizabeth I in 1603; Charles I, who ruled during the English Civil War; and Charles II, who was restored to the throne after the war. The Stuart dynasty continued through the descendants of James II, including Bonnie Prince Charlie. Mary, Queen of Scots struggled between Protestantism and Catholicism and was ultimately executed by her cousin Elizabeth I.

- 1. QUEEN VICTORIAQueen Victoria, the only child of George III's fourth son, Edward, and sister of Leopold, king of the Belgians, was queen of Great Britain for 63 years—to date, the second longest than any other British monarch and the second longest of any female monarch in history (Queen Elizabeth II is currently the longest serving monarch to date). Victoria's reign saw great cultural expansion; advances in industry, science, and communications; and the building of railways and the London Underground. She died in England in 1901.
- 2. VICTORIAN ERA EDUCATION: In an increasingly complicated world, the chances for an illiterate boy or girl were slim. In light of this, a number of day schools were established. These included the Ragged Schools, Parish Schools and Church Schools. CHILDHOOD: As a child, she was raised protectively under elaborate rules and protocols. Her mother forbade her to meet new people. Due to this, she remained sad and melancholic.
- 3. VICTORIAN PERIOD SOCIAL SITUATION: Working conditions -Long work days; -Poor nutrition and health; -Workers included women and children. Living conditions -No sewage or drainage systems; -Overcrowded houses; -Poorly ventilated. ROLE OF WOMEN: -Women were seen, by the middle classes at least, as belonging to the domestic sphere; -Rights and privileges of Victorian women were limited; -Marriages for Victorian women became contracts; -Women suffered sexual violence, verbal abuse and economic deprivation from their husbands; -hey had no rights to divorce on these grounds and their divorce was considered to be a social taboo.
- 4. AFFAIRS FOREIGN: -The Crimean war was the only war during Victoria’s reign, that put Britain in direct conflict with other great power states. DOMESTIC: - The invention of the steam engine brought Britain a huge technological advantage.
- 5. VICTORIAN ERA LITERATURE: - Poetry had been the dominant genre; Iit was the novel that was most important in the Victorian period; -Robert Browning (1812–89) and Alfred Tennyson (1809–92) were Victorian England's most famous poets; -The old Gothic tales that came out of the late 19th century are the first examples of the genre of fantastic fiction. ARCHITECTURE: -When the Victorian era was just gearing up, Italianate style houses became the hot new trend; -With low roofs,wide eaves, and ornamental brackets; -Medieval architecture and the great cathedrals of the Gothic age inspired all sorts of flourishes during the Victorian era; -Towers, turrets, and rounded porches give Queen Anne architecture regal airs.
- 6. VICTORIAN PERIOD FASHION: -Fashions of the Victorian period created an often exaggerated,.ostentatious look. -
