Description Data is a critical both to facilitate an organization and as a product. How can you make that data more usable for both internal and external stakeholders? There are a myriad of recommendations, advice, and strictures about what data providers should do to facilitate data (re)use. It can be overwhelming. Based on recent empirical work (analyzing data reuse proxies at scale, understanding data sensemaking and looking at how researchers search for data), I talk about what practices are a good place to start for helping others to reuse your data. I put this in the context of the notion data communities that organizations can use to help foster the use of data both within your organization and externally.

The Cloud based services provide much efficient and seamless ways for data sharing across the cloud. The fact that the data owners no longer possess data makes it very difficult to assure data confidentiality and to enable secure data sharing in the cloud. Despite of all its advantages this will remain a major limitation that acts as a barrier to the wider deployment of cloud based services. One of the possible ways for ensuring trust in this aspect is the introduction of accountability feature in the cloud computing scenario. The Cloud framework requires promotion of distributed accountability for such dynamic environment[1]. In some works, there‘s an accountable framework suggested to ensure distributed accountability for data sharing by the generation of only a log of data access, but without any embedded feedback mechanism for owner permission towards data protection[2].The proposed system is an enhanced client accountability framework which provides an additional client side verification for each access towards enhanced security of data. The integrity of content of data which resides in the cloud service provider is also maintained by secured outsourcing. Besides, the authentication of JAR(Java Archive) files are done to ensure file protection and to maintain a safer environment for data sharing. The analysis of various functionalities of the framework depicts both the accountability and security feature in an efficient manner.

LIvRE: A Video Extension to the LIRE Content-Based Image Retrieval System

https://imatge.upc.edu/web/publications/livre-video-extension-lire-content-based-image-retrieval-system This project explores the expansion of Lucene Image Retrieval Engine (LIRE), an open-source Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system, for video retrieval on large scale video datasets. The fast growth of the need to store huge amounts of video in servers requires efficient, scalable search and indexing engines capable to assist users in their management and retrieval. In our tool, queries are formulated by visual examples allowing users to find the videos and the moment of time when the query image is matched with. The video dataset used on this scenario comprise over 1,000 hours of different news broadcast channels. This thesis presents an extension and adaptation of Lire and its plugin for Solr, an open-source enterprise search platform from the Apache Lucene project, for video retrieval based on visual features, as well as a web-interface for users from different devices.

This is a presentation of Fuzzy Hash Map (FHM). FHM is an extension to the regular Java HashMap data structure allowing efficient fuzzy string key search. Customizable algorithms and settings bring flexibility to this new data structure, making it adaptable to each specific use case. Fuzzy string search performance comparison between Fuzzy Hash Map and the regular HashMap are presented for both accuracy and time consumption. Results show very good performance for Fuzzy Hash Map compared to the regular HashMap.

This case study reviews the methods and insights that emerged from an 18-month effort to coordinate and enhance the scattered user experiences of a suite of information retrieval tools sold as services by an investment ratings agency. The session will share a method for understanding user needs in diverse information access contexts; review a collection of information retrieval patterns such as enterprise search and information access, service design, and product and platform management; and consider the impact of organizational and cultural factors on design decisions.

Scientific Knowledge Graphs: an Overview

In the last decade, several Scientific Knowledge Graphs (SKG) were released, representing scientific knowledge in a structured, interlinked, and semantically rich manner. But, what kind of information they describe? How they have been built? What can we do with them? In this lecture, I will first provide an overview of well-known SKGs, like Microsoft Academic Graph, Dimensions, and others. Then, I will present the Academia/Industry DynAmics (AIDA) Knowledge Graph, which describes 21M publications and 8M patents according to i) the research topics drawn from the Computer Science Ontology, ii) the type of the author's affiliations (e.g, academia, industry), and iii) 66 industrial sectors (e.g., automotive, financial, energy, electronics) from the Industrial Sectors Ontology (INDUSO). Finally, I will showcase a number of tools and approaches using such SKGs, supporting researchers, companies, and policymakers in making sense of research dynamics.

Presented at DocTrain East 2007 by Joe Gelb, Suite Solutions -- Designing, building and maintaining a coherent information architecture is critical to proper planning, creation, management and delivery of documentation and training content. This is especially true when your content is based on a modular or topic-based model such as DITA and SCORM or if you are migrating to such a model. But where to start? Terms such as taxonomy, semantics, and ontology can be intimidating, and recognized standards like RDF, OWL, Topic Maps (XTM) and SKOS seem so abstract. This pragmatic workshop will provide an overview of the standards and concepts, and a chance to use them hands-on to turn the abstract into tangible skills. We will demonstrate how a well-designed information architecture facilitates reuse and how the information model is integrally connected to conditional and multi-purpose publishing. We will introduce an innovative, comprehensive methodology for information modeling and content development called SOTA Solution Oriented Topic Architecture. SOTA does not aim to be yet another new standard, but rather a concrete methodology backed up with open-source and accessible tools for using existing standards. We will demonstrate ֖and practice—hands-on—how this powerful methodology can help you organize and express information, determine which content actually needs to be created or updated, and build documentation and training deliverables from your content based on the rules you define. This workshop is essential for successfully implementing topic models like DITA and SCORM, multi-purpose conditional publishing, and successfully facilitating content reuse.

In order to cope with large-scale topic maps that store a lot of information, it is necessary to utilize topic map databases. Although, database management systems should provide users with external schema functions such as views, topic map databases do not have such functions. In this paper, we propose a method of implementing a view function, by focusing on the fact that the substructure of topic maps can be regarded as a topic map. In order to realize the idea, we developed an access control system based on the view function. Through an experiment to measure the execution time, we confirmed that these functions work correctly and have little effect on the execution time.

Subject Headings make information to be topic maps

This paper reports the efforts to make topic maps from Subject Headings (SHs) and discuss practical use of them for organizing information and knowledge. SHs are often maintained by libraries and used in bibliographic records. SHs are thesauri and they are well organized. Fortunately some SHs are published on the Web. We transformed them to topic maps. Usually each subject in SHs has own ID. It can play PSI role. By keeping the relationships included in SHs such as Broader-Narrower, Related, USE-UF etc in topic maps, information or knowledge can be linked together and organized according to the structure of SHs. In other words, by using SHs information and knowledge can be topic maps easily.

Evaluation of Instances Asset in a Topic Maps-Based Ontology

In connection with structuring and sharing of knowledge in a form of ontologies the question of their assets evaluation occurs. This short paper presents the methodology of asset evaluation of individual instances in ontology based on standard of Topic Maps. The evaluation comes out of weights assignment to instances and associations in ontology and total weight calculation for individual instance and its surroundings. Searching results can be ranked according to this total weight expressing information asset of individual instance.

Defining Domain-Specific Facets for Topic Maps With TMQL Path Expressions

The automatic generation of facets works fairly bad for fine-modeled ontologies, in which not all information concerning a single Topic is available through occurrences and direct associations. In this paper, we share our conception of using TMQL path expressions for the definition of domain-specific facets by means of using standard-based Topic Maps technologies. The generated facets must be evaluated, even though they are defined manually by a domain expert. We therefore propose metrics for automatic evaluation of the defined facets, as well as a mechanism for using automatically stored user feedback.
