The document outlines the procedure for casting and curing concrete test specimens, specifically cube casting. It details the necessary steps, including size and assembly of cube molds, proper compaction techniques, and requirements for curing, maintenance, and identification marking. Additionally, it emphasizes training for staff and proper site conditions for effective concrete testing.
MAKING AND CURINGCONCRETE TEST
SPECIMEN.( CUBE CASTING)
• Nominal Size of aggregate not more than 38 mm.
• Workability shall be checked prior concrete placing (i.e
Flow/Slump Checks).
• Cube mould size -150mm X150mmX150mm.
• Minimum size of sampling 0.02 cum.
• In assembling cube mould, Oil shall be applied.
3.
MAKING AND CURINGCONCRETE
TEST SPECIMEN.( CUBE CASTING)
• In no case shall the concrete to be subjected less then
35 strokes per layer for 15 cm cube. Where voids are
left by the tamping rod, sides of the mould shall be
tapped to close the voids. ( As per IS 516)
• Procedure:
• A concrete cube must be filled in 3 layers. Each Un
compacted layer of concrete must be filled about 25
mm more than the 1/3rd level, since concrete will settle
after compacting.
4.
MAKING AND CURINGCONCRETE TEST
SPECIMEN.( CUBE CASTING)
• Each layer must be compacted with the 600 mm long
long rounded end of 16 mm Dia. Tamping bar, by
roding 4times along each of the 4 side edge of the
cube mould and 4 times from centre towards edge.
This will ensure at least 32 times of minimum 35
strokes specified.
• Each layer has to be compacted sufficiently to ensure
that cement slurry called laitance is seen along all 4
edges of mould as well as on the top surface of the
concrete. i.e. no CA particles or void must be visible.
5.
• After toplayer has been compacted the extra concrete
must be compacted and level of with wooden plank.
• Filled mould shall be then cleaned externally and
shifted in overnight shelter storage place.
• Final leveling and finishing of concrete top surface
must be done with masons float. After 10 to 20 min
depending on ambient temperature.
MAKING AND CURING CONCRETE TEST
SPECIMEN.( CUBE CASTING)
6.
• After 1to2 hrs. when the concrete surface has
hardened sufficiently each concrete have their own
identification Marking by engraving on top surface
with nail.
• Proper Curing and Maintenance to be done.

SITE CONDITIONS:
• ProperCuring Tank with Water level in
such a way that cubes must be properly
submerged in water.
• Partition to be done for particular days (
i.e. 3days, 7days, 14th days & 28days).
• Curing Tank Water must be Replenished
within a week and proper next week date
with board to be mention near curing tank
area.
